Welcome to the B-Side Breakdown! A podcast where I, Brett Johnson your host, will chat with friends, heroes, and those who inspire, to learn about a song or piece of music they have written, new or old, released or previously unreleased that is particularly meaningful to them and ideally get deep into the “Why?” behind it.
Not only will learn more about the artist’s selection, but you will hear the song or piece in its entirety, and you’ll get a sneak peek into what they are working on now, regardless of artform or medium.
I look forward to having artists on the show covering a spectrum of genres, including independent rock, punk, Hip-Hop, post-hardcore, Americana, Country, progressive and beyond.
Personally, I think this is going to be a lot of fun and I look forward to you joining us for the ride!

S01E05: "Moving Past" by Monolog with Nick Larsen
I got to catch up with my dear friend Nick Larsen to talk about his beautiful song "Moving Past" from his project/band called Monolog.
When not being solo singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, Nick plays drums in an incredible rock band called ExactlyNo and from time to time will share the stage and studio with myself on bass as the rhythm section for Nashville's hottest Americana/Country duo Megan and Shane!
What's so special about this episode is that between the time we recorded it and the final mix, Nick went back into the studio to cut a refreshed version of the song. Both versions are great and have their own character, but you decide which one you like more if you don't absolutely love them both!
Original version recorded by Dave West at Studio 9
Mixed/mastered by Doug @ Pratt Sound
New version recorded by @jeremytappero at #thenoisebelow
Mastered by Bruce Templeton at Microphonic Mastering

A refreshing take on indie music creator and innovators
I am an avid music fan and I stumbled on this podcast when looking for more content related to the independent music scene. And being from Minneapolis, I love the local connection along with the promise of being introduced to other indie bands across the country. Thanks Brett Johnson for creating this!
