Episode 152 - October Sky - 25th Anniversary
The Back To The Blockbuster team is feeling the inspiration of 1999’s October Sky, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary! Directed by Joe Johnston, and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Cooper, Chris Owen, Laura Dern, Willam Lee Scott, and Chad Lindberg, the film is based on the memoir of the same name, and tells the true story of Homer H. Hickam Jr., a coal miner’s son who was inspired by the launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957 to take up rocketry against his father’s wishes to eventually become a NASA engineer.
Episode 151 - Friday The 13th (2009) - 15th Anniversary
The Back To The Blockbuster team is taking a trip back to Camp Crystal Lake to talk the 15th anniversary of the Friday The 13th remake. Directed by Marcus Nispel, the film stars Jared Padalecki, Danielle Panabaker, Aaron Yoo, Amanda Righetti, Travis Van Winkle, Ben Feldman, Willa Ford, and Derek Mears. The movie follows Clay Miller (Padalecki) as he searches for his missing sister, Whitney (Righetti), who is captured by Jason Voorhees (Mears) while camping in woodland Crystal Lake. We didn’t want to explore Crystal Lake alone so are once again joined by Alex and Dean of the Return Revenge Resurrection Podcast to determine if this reboot is a trip worth taking 15 years later.
Episode 150 - Super Bowl Trailer Reactions
This year’s Super Bowl was the most-watched telecast in history with 123.4 million viewers watching the the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers but viewers also got to see new movie trailers for some of the most anticipated films coming out in the next few months! The Back To The Blockbuster teams shares their reactions to the trailers, including ones for A Quiet Place: Day One, Deadpool & Wolverine, Twisters, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Wicked! In addition to trailers, the team also discusses David Leitch dropping out of directing the Jurassic World sequel, Dan Trachtenberg directing the Predator standalone film Badlands, Coyote Vs. Acme being officially shelved at Warner Bros. and more! The duo then wraps things up with box office predictions for Madame Web.

The Back To The Blockbuster team is shining a light on the current state of physical media and we have special guest Kenny Levels of Mid Level Media discussing why it’s still viable, especially for collectors, despite a narrative that it’s dying off. Kenny’s Mid Level Media YouTube page counts 22.5K subscribers with 5,845,734 views so he is a great person to dive into this topic with. Topics range from how Kenny got started, where physical meda is headed, will it still be around for the foreseeable future and why it’s important to still maintain physical media in an era that seems intent on making it a relic of the past.
BTTB Presents: Deep Dives - “Suspiria” (1977)
In this latest episode of the Deep Dive spinoff, Gaius is joined by Kevin and Erin of The Podcast That Wouldn’t Die to discuss 1977’s Suspiria. Directed by Dario Argento, the film follows an American newcomer to a prestigious ballet academy who comes to realize the school is a front for something sinister amid a series of grisly murders.

The duo also tackles, 28 Years Later finding a home at Sony Pictures, Tim Burton directing a reimagining of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, Christopher Nolan saying he’ll continue to do large scale movies, David Leitch being in talks to direct the Jurassic World sequel, Evil Dead spinoff news, and more! The team then concludes things with box office news and box office predictions for Lisa Frankenstein.
