A+ Podcast

I would have rated a 4 star because it took two parts for someone to make a Shrek reference while reading Moonbog but they were redeemed when they stopped reading HP Lovecraft. It's my favorite podcast, it takes those boring books you read in class and makes them actually enjoyable

Bringing the dead to life

Ever have those books that you tried to read but turned out to be so dry and boring that after the first chapter (if you got that far) you put it down and never opened it again? How about the “classical literature” forced upon you in school that was so unreadable and outdated that those authors became persona non grata to the point where your little grey cells threatened to go on strike if you looked at anything written by them ever again?

There is hope for these unfortunate victims of the literary world and it comes in the form of a podcast called Bad Audiobooks. Nick and Kent have taken the time to breathe life back into them by modulating through their dusty pages with vim, vigor and commentary, voicing all the characters. They may not be great scholars. Mispronunciations may run rampant. They might even lose track of where they left off in the book with their asides, but do recover their place as the listener can read along with them.

This they do in a friendly manner, as friends are wont to do in an entertaining atmosphere. Yes, I said entertaining for the works they peruse seemingly come alive. Gone are the days where Grimm’s Fairy Tales are only out there to scare children into submission, where Sherlock Holmes can solve a case in anything but a dry narrative, where the horrors of H.P. Lovecraft’s troubled life come to life in his ghastly creativity and the inept Hardy Boys, well, the less said the better.

The duo have now taken on William Shakespeare and Comedy of Errors. I don’t know what I was expecting, but the product far exceeded my expectations as well as being highly entertaining. It was like pulling teeth reading this in school.

To wrap up this review, I can highly recommend Bad Audiobook to anyone who has an ounce of humor in their body. Nick and Kent do a wonderful job with what they choose to work with and the final product is a parody podcast that brings the dullest of books out of the shadows and into the light. Five Stars.

Bad writing, bad reading, GREAT podcast!

I’m an avid audiobook listener so when I stumbled across this I was very excited. I got the premise, sure I know Snow White and Sherlock Holmes, but I’d never actually read them. Early on I was a bit annoyed with all the voices and side commentary... but after 2 episodes it was almost the entire draw. Some of the writing is so bad, their take on it makes it enjoyable. 22 chapters of completely unrelated and unnecessary crime spree by the heroes in Hardy Boys? No problem! These guys make it fun! Great chemistry, great fun... a good take on classics you only think you’ve read.
