I stumbled upon this podcast due to an obsession the the show “Fleabag”, which I had searched on. After listening to several other disappointing podcasts discuss the show, I found this one and was thoroughly impressed!!!
It’s random because this podcast isn’t focused on reviewing TV shows or anything. It just happened to be something she had gotten into lately and had things to discuss.
The good stuff:
- very high quality recording
- the one plug she did was actually of interest and valuable to me (Anchor)
- her voice is great! Pleasant, but not put-you-to-sleep relaxing. Very comfortable and engaging.
- the flow was conversational but clearly tight and well planned, not rambling
The great stuff:
- deeply empathetic review of Fleabag, which is in itself a deeply empathetic show.
- caught really interesting points in the show, and brought new ideas and perspectives that gave me something to think about
- rightly pointed out cultural problems with the show and a lack of people of color, but was able to engage beyond that while still not letting the show off the hook
- mentioned her Juneteenth show, which after enjoying this so much, intrigued me. I listened to this year’s and last year’s and I’m so glad I did! I learned so much!!
This was such a pleasant surprise to find. I’ve listened to podcasts from major networks who are focused on only reviewing entertainment which weren’t nearly as high quality and insightful as this wonderful podcast! Keep doing what you are doing, BaeBaltimore!!!
