    Happy holiday season! Back in May, one of the very first episodes to air on Baking Bread was this conversation with Jeni Britton Bauer of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. In light of the holidays (and giving myself grace as my semester ends), we're taking to the archives to share this sweet sweet conversation. Jeni poetically shows us how in one scoop, one pint of ice cream, it's a beautiful combination of so many people, places, flavors, and love.     Holiday Connection Through Writing with Noted

    Happy holiday season everyone! While maybe we're excited for the season, are you feelin a little funky too? That makes sense! We've been through a year of all years, and just at the time that we could be using that holiday connection the most, it's not very safe to do so. We absolutely might have some hard feelings come up, some days we just aren't feelin it. AND this holiday season, we can get creative on how to connect and share a whole lot of life in new and different ways! Allison, co-founder of Noted, a stationery store here in Houston, shares with us how we can use writing to connect with ourselves and others this holiday.     Guest of Honor: Community in 2020 with Johnny's Gold Brick

    2020 has been quite the year. In times of difficulty, much like what we have lived through, or even in times of joy, we often turn to community. Today we are joined by Benjy, the owner of Johnny's Goldbrick. This bar here in Houston is the definition of community, that warm place where all are welcome. Pulling up a chair, talking to the person next to you, and enjoying yourself over a great cocktail is encouraged.  In today's episode, we unpack what it means to create a community like Johnny's. And we also explore what it feels like when our place of community is taken away, or looks different. In a time when community means so much, Benjy and I explore how we can still create that connection even when it might not look the same way.     Couples Therapy with Will

    We're talking all things couples therapy today! Maybe you have an idea of what couples therapy is or who goes, before we even start this conversation. After 2.5 years of couples therapy playing a major role in our lives, my husband Will and I can firmly say anyone and everyone, at any stage of your relationship, from proactive to hard moments, can go and benefit from couples therapy. From those initial conversations of "hey, should we do therapy together?" to finding your therapist, what the first session was like, how it feels and what we've learned, Will and I are reviewing our whole experience in this episode. While we know everyone will have a different experience, we hope some pieces of ours might be helpful in your journey. And of course with any questions after the show, don't hesitate to reach out!

    Food and Social Change with Ivy of Ivy Leaf Farms

    Food is a really beautiful, life giving thing. So when we don't have access to it, it impacts our life in more ways than one. Food desserts are real, impacting so many, and it's a call for social change. In today's episode, we're hearing from the incredible Ivy of Ivy Leaf Farms. We're learning about the major issue of food insecurity, we're talking about social change, and we're hearing from Ivy the steps we can take to step up and make a change.  The story of how Ivy is using her own strengths and vision to create social change in her neighborhood by providing accessible, healthy food is moving. She's going above and beyond in her community to create social change, all using this unifying basic need of food, and provides a road map for how we can use our own unique strengths to do the same.
