Dodgers Swept, Rams Super Bowl Hopes, and Packers Panic

In this episode, Nathan and Tim kick things off with a rough week for LA sports as the Dodgers get swept by the Brewers. The two try to make sense of how a team coming off back-to-back championships—and treating earlier playoff wins like just another day at the office—could suddenly fall apart when it mattered most. They discuss the Dodgers' inability to capitalize with runners on base, Shohei Ohtani's disappointing performance, and why even a deep playoff run can feel like a complete failure when the expectation is World Series or bust. That leads into another LA franchise facing championship expectations: the Rams. Nathan questions whether their shaky start is already cause for concern, while Tim makes the case that a brutal early schedule, injuries, and a slow start from Matthew Stafford leave plenty of room for a turnaround. Along the way, Tim shares a surprising breakdown of NFL salaries, including why edge rushers and offensive tackles make so much money, why running backs are among the lowest-paid positions, and the absurd pay gap between quarterbacks and long snappers. From there, the conversation turns to the rest of the NFL as Tim celebrates the 49ers' undefeated start before Nathan asks him to evaluate the Packers on behalf of a particularly invested listener (we see you Ryan!). Tim delivers a pretty brutal assessment of Green Bay's season so far, arguing that their winning record disguises a team that hasn't remotely passed the eye test. The two also discuss the Packers' unusual approach to developing franchise quarterbacks, their historic rivalry with the Bears, and why Tim thinks Caleb Williams has the potential to become one of the league's next great quarterbacks. Tim also checks in on his fantasy football team's dominant start to the season—and why he's still feeling confident despite suffering his first loss. Finally, the two briefly turn their attention away from sports as Tim shows Nathan a newly released Tesla video that leaves them both wondering whether they're witnessing history being made or something completely impractical. They save the full discussion for next week, but not before agreeing that whatever Tesla has been cooking up deserves a closer look.

Bali vs. New York, GTA 6, and Full-Quota Sales

In this episode, Nathan and Tim catch up after both returning from opposite sides of the world. Nathan breaks down his trip to Bali, beginning with an absolutely brutal 30-hour journey to get there before getting into the much better parts: incredible food, rice terraces, monkeys, one of the nicest hotels he’s ever stayed in, and just how absurdly far your money can go in Bali. He also explains why the trip came with a surprising amount of background stress—from questionable tap water and mosquitoes to rabies, Bali belly, and the realization that he might not actually make the journey back anytime soon. Tim then recaps a trip to rural New York for Emily’s sister’s wedding, including renting a car for the first time and discovering the joys of aimlessly driving around the middle of nowhere. The two also compare their massage experiences after Nathan and Sophia get their first real massages in Bali and Tim recounts how a birthday massage left Emily looking like a pepperoni pizza. From there, the conversation turns to video games and movies. Tim explains why Ghost of Yotei has quickly become one of his favorite games, reflects on finally playing The Last of Us, and shares his extremely high expectations for GTA 6. The two also debate whether Marvel can possibly recover with Avengers: Doomsday, question why Shang-Chi disappeared for years, and check in on Nathan’s ongoing journey through the Harry Potter books. Finally, Nathan asks Tim how his perspective on tech sales has changed now that he’s officially at full quota. Tim breaks down the relentless math behind hitting quota and why small-business SaaS sales feels like the “law school” portion of his career, while Nathan compares it to the strange incentives of being a lawyer. The two wrap things up by discussing how AI may be creating more legal work rather than eliminating it—and where they each see their careers heading over the next several years.

Suno 5.5, Cloning Molly, and the Future of Music

In this episode, Nathan and Tim kick things off with a few tech updates as Nathan prepares for his first real 70mm IMAX experience with The Odyssey and Tim shows off his latest foldable phone. That leads to a broader conversation about foldables, VR, smart glasses, Apple Vision Pro, and whether the future of computing is an immersive headset or just a pair of glasses that can quietly feed you information throughout the day. Then Tim reveals what he’s been doing with the newest version of Suno—and things get considerably weirder. After extracting Nathan’s vocals from the old Molly era, Tim creates an AI version of Nathan capable of making entirely new songs, including a sequel to Molly and a brutally self-aware roast of the original project--among other crazy experiments. Nathan reacts to hearing an AI version of his younger self sing melodies and lyrics he never actually wrote, while the two try to figure out just how convincing the technology has become. From there, the conversation turns more serious as Nathan and Tim debate what AI-generated music means for artists and creativity more broadly. They discuss whether they would have used ChatGPT and Suno if the tools existed when they first started making music, how AI could allow beginners to skip years of learning songwriting, and why there may actually be value in the frustrating, imperfect process of learning to create something yourself. The two ultimately wrestle with the increasingly blurry line between using AI as a fun tool and allowing it into the art, music, books, and other creative work that actually means something to them—before closing things out with an AI-generated birthday serenade from 2018 Bamba.
