    Shelton State Community College baseball has been a powerhouse in the National Junior College Athletic Association for nearly 40 years, and it would not have been possible without the incredible work of Bobby Sprowl. In his 34th season as head coach of the Bucs, Sprowl was honored by being inducted into the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Sprowl has won 1146 games in his time with Shelton State, good for 18th all-time in NJCAA history. He has led Shelton State to six NJCAA World Series appearances and his 2008 squad finished as national runner ups. Sprowl’s program has produced over 250 four-year college players and 30 MLB draft picks over the years, including former Yankees, Mariners, and Giants third baseman Russ Davis. Sprowl first came to coach Shelton State in 1985, but was no stranger to Tuscaloosa, being named Second Team All-American as Crimson Tide’s ace and less than a decade prior. He was then selected 39th overall in the 1977 MLB Draft and went on to post a 5.44 ERA in 22 appearances over four season with the Red Sox and Astros.

Winning 3 state titles during his high school career ⁃ Played college at Auburn 1996-99 catcher, All American hitting .379 leading the SEC with 81 RBIs !! ⁃ Played in and won regional championship, and played in CWS 1997 ⁃ Drafted and played with KC Royals organization 2 seasons ⁃ Started baseball program at Spain Park, Hoover AL going 53-41 with 2 state playoff appearances . 2003 OTM Coach of the year. This young man ended up being on a team to win the 2024 state championship while battling cancer treatment and fighting for his life in the process!!
