The Brooklyn Block is the place you come from. Before your old enough to imagine the concept of, or explore the geography of "the neighborhood" you grow on the block.

    Episode 5: David Parker talks about overcoming procrastination.

    On this episode of BayRidginals we interview local author DAVID PARKER who suffered for years with depression and anxiety.  During a particularly low point, he recalled a friend’s advice and started keeping a feelings diary.  After keeping the diary for some time, he saw a connection between the tasks that he avoided facing and his poor feelings and low self-esteem.  Armed with this insight, Mr. Parker taught himself to face his tasks and the overwhelming feelings they brought by learning to focus on Just One Task, which he incorporated into “The J.O.T. Method™”. While self-help books have traditionally been bought more by women than men, Mr. Parker has noticed that his book has been purchased in equal amounts by men as it has by women.  In addition, half of those buying his book in person mentioned to him that their purchase was meant as a gift, out of concern for someone else’s struggle with habitual procrastination or depression.     PART 2 of 2 with Musician, Artist and Bay Ridge native, Victor Gurbo!

    Victor V. Gurbo is a Brooklyn-native musician, artist and luthier.  Active since 2012, Victor and his band have played at iconic NYC venues such as The Greene Space, Brooklyn Academy of Music, City Winery, The Highline Ballroom, and many more. His songwriting is inspired by traditional American folk music, as well as its revival in the 1940’s-60’s by artists such as Bob Dylan.  He also dives deep into classical and archaic literature which he studied at the Macaulay Honors College, to resurrect their narratives in modern song. Victor’s songs are characterized by their lyrical composition and vivid rhyme schemes. Victor V. Gurbo & Co.’s eponymous first full studio album features seven original songs, two of which were performed at WNYC/WQXR’s Battle of the Boroughs’, where the band took home the Brooklyn championship.
