E12- Check Your Trauma! ft. Dr. Noelle St. Vil

Today we welcome Dr. Noelle St. Vil, an Associate Professor at the University at Buffalo, Deputy Director of the Gender Institute, and a trailblazer in the research on violence against women, sexual health and well-being, and Black male-to-female relationships. In this episode, we will be discussing topics on healing and what that may look like, learning yourself, and choosing what works for you and your relationship, despite the critiques and expectations of society. We’ll unpack the stuff we were taught growing up and how those labels still show up in our relationships and self-worth. We’re also getting into what it means to heal when therapy isn’t always an option, how to do what works for your family (not what everybody else thinks is “normal”), and how to recognize when your trauma is taking the lead. Most importantly, we’ll talk about giving ourselves and others grace without losing our boundaries. If there were any podcast about Black relationships, self-awareness, healing in our own way, and learning to love ourselves while still learning ourselves, this is the one to listen to!
