BC-078 Karen's Story A narrative of Hope and Inspiration

Karen: I would say look for the positive in your life and as you're looking for the positive reach out and grab a hand for support because we can do this together. Automated: Hello and welcome to the Beat Cancer Answer brought to you by beatcancer.org the center for advancement in cancer education. Carl: Hello this is Carl Wagner with Beat Cancer and I have here one of our wonderful coaches Karen Holmes and I'm going to let her talk to you about her journey with cancer and how she got to come to us and become a cancer coach. With that, Karen Holmes. Karen: Hi, thank you, Carl It's wonderful to be here. Carl: Welcome. Karen: I mean that with a full heart and gratitude because being alive and being vital and full of energy is the message that I want to convey to all of the people who are experiencing cancer or who have experienced cancer as I did. It's a journey and it's a wonderful time in my life, to be able to come back and to coach other people during their cancer journey as they heal and recover from cancer. I came to being a cancer coach after I experienced inflammatory breast cancer, and that was back in 2011. I've been on this recovery journey for a long time, I feel very happy that I'm here and the journey that I have been on started when I found out that I had obviously breast cancer. I was told that I was going to get chemotherapy, I was going to have surgery, and I was going to have radiation.  And all of that seemed rather intimidating, and I did go through all of that. But during that time period, I did a lot of research. I did a lot of reading about the other holistic practices that would be helpful, that would support me through my cancer recovery. And for me, those were the most important steps that I could take. That I could be my own cancer advocate.  Although, I didn't know anything about cancer coaches at the time and so I developed some of the strategies that I've learned and I've read about in the beat cancer dot org program. And so, that all comes around when I finished my medical treatments, and I'll say that they cured me, and that's in my story. That I became this...okay you're done with all the treatments, you're done with the radiation fine we'll see you in six months. Then it was now, what do I do? That now what do I do, came to me as dance. I knew that food and movement were the best solutions to getting my vitality back.  So, I'll say that dance brought me back to life, and that's where my recovery journey really begins because I knew that I had to change my lifestyle. I knew that I wanted to become somebody who was alive and vibrant and not just somebody who was sitting around wondering what to do next. For me, the dance enlightened my life in fact, I tell people I retired from my job and I flew to Maui and I danced. And that's true, and I came home from Maui and I didn't go back to work. I didn't go back to the career that I'd had for 32 years. Instead, I began this journey of finding out what I wanted to do next and how I could support particularly other women in their breast cancer journey and that's where my focus is. And so, I became a dance teacher facilitator. I facilitate something called Azul, which is a conscious movement dance. now you're going to ask me, what is Azul? Carl: What is Azul? Karen:  Conscious dance is really awakening one's heart and awakening what's inside of you. Through the dance, I was able to embody all of the feelings that Ii was going through. It's somewhat, and I've talked to other women they agree. It's somewhat like PTSD, only for cancer patients, where you figure out that wow, I've gone through all my treatments, I'm supposed to be okay and now I realize what I've gone through and what I need to do to change. Concurrently, I changed my eating habits and I did a lot of internal work to figure out where my path was going to go. That path led me to cancer coaching and that's where I am today. To really believe in the support for other women.  I want to be able to support other women in their recovery.  I think it's really important to make that connection one-on-one.  That's what really keeps us alive, that's what motivates us, inspires us to become all that we can be. That once we've gone through this cancer treatment, we have the opportunity to change our lives. I tell people breast cancer was the worst thing and the best thing that ever happened to me. It was the worst thing because I don't wish it on anybody. It's not a pleasant journey, it can be full of suffering and angst.  And yet, what it gave me was gratitude for my life. It gave me the opportunity to change, reach out to people, to become somebody alive, somebody who can dance her way into freedom of all possibilities and ways of being. Before I logged on to do this interview, I danced for an hour. It gave me that insight as to where I wanted to go and what I wanted to say. That's where I am today. Here I am as a cancer coach. I've spent the past few months clarifying my vision. When I was going through my cancer treatments, they say have a positive vision, so my positive vision at the time was running down the coast of the Pacific Ocean. I was having a new little grandson at the time and with my hair in a ponytail so my hair would be grown and so that was the vision. The vision that I have created now, is one of a three-part vision that I created in something called pillars of healing and that's become my offering to breast cancer and cancer patients, and women who are recovering from cancer. So, in the pillars of healing, I offer three opportunities and the first one is a one-on-one cancer coach. Call me up, text me, send me an email, and I will do a free discovery call with you that we can see what it is you as an individual need. I think of you as my...I have created Lily; I have a blog on my website that lily is the person that I like to talk to. And for her I say, I offer you that one-on-one individual assistance, guidance, I will listen and we can move forward together complementing whatever medical treatment you prefer to take. So, that's the one-on-one coaching. The other two other pieces...and the second pillar is really the dance, and offering dance classes and opportunities for women experiencing cancer. The kind of dance that I do, which is Azul, is very freeing. It can be done by anybody and I say anybody regardless of one's physical attributes, because it's something that you bring from inside. Azul is not something that you're going to have choreographed steps. It's I play music and I facilitate and you move your body to whatever comes up. You listen to your body and say oh I'm going to allow this particular movement or something comes up and you'll say I understand where I'm going now.  So, that movement which I believe is critical to our healthy well-being, it really is. If you had to ask me what are the three things that would be movement and what we put in our bodies, food, and some kind of connection with...that I want to say spiritual or guidance through meditation or whatever you choose to take. That those are the three big things that are going to heal us. And that leads me to the third pillar. The third pillar is one where I am available to do presentations in person at some point or online for people on A how to prevent cancer or what are some of the things that you can do if you are experiencing cancer or somebody you know and love. Because I believe that all of us have known someone who has had a cancer journey.  So those are the three pillars. The one-on-one consultation. the dancing opportunities through Azul and the third one is I am available to give presentations to your organization, to your group, to your meeting, it can be a short one, it can be a fairly lengthy one, and it's really geared to what the organization or your group needs and wants. On my website which is pillars of healing dot org, I give a list of five things but I'm very happy to tailor any kind of presentation using the things that I believe are truly needed and wanted and beneficial to people who experience cancer. So, that in short, is really what pillars of healing are all about. Carl: Well there's a lot to unpack there, but I want to say congratulations first of all for sharing your journey and also getting through from what I was reading a 45 chance of healing and basically going through all the big three, the surgery, the chemotherapy, and radiation and going through all the hardships that go along with that losing your hair and just a fear to finding your life purpose and sharing with others I think it's wonderful. Thank you so much for all of that. I always laughed when you talked about the Azul being something anybody could do because when I dance and I'm expressing myself you better stand back a little bit because you might get knocked over by accident. I'm not a good dancer so I was just trying to imagine that but that's wonderful. So, how long have you been a coach now? Karen: It's coming up on a year. Carl: Wow, terrific. Karen: It's coming up on a year, I do believe that the coach in me stems from...I was in education and had a really nice career and I am very available to listen to people. So, the coaching just falls into line with what I have done for a very long time and being able to help people from where they are to what they want to become and that's in essence what a coach does. Carl: Yeah, so it's a natural progression for you and you have such a soothing voice, I have told you. I think even if people talk to you on the phone and didn't see you or could be an interactive person, I think just that calming voice and like you said I'm here to talk to and to listen. I think a lot of people are missing that, they don't get that in the traditional medical treatment. If they're going through traditional medical treatment, I think it's really great to take on a coach. Somebody who's there to listen to you and guide you, that's wonderful.

    BC-077 Intro To A Coach: Arti Kumar-Jain

Hello! My name is Arti Kumar-Jain. I am a Certified Holistic Cancer Coach. My journey began when my mom was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer Stage IV in February 2018. As anyone knows in the cancer journey, endless research and constant looking for answers is sought out. The common theme of nutrition and reduction of stress were common elements found in my research. Although my mom passed in August 2019, her spirit lives in me. I am driven to be of assistance to those diagnosed with cancer, friends, family members, and community is part of my in becoming a Cancer Coach. Being of East Asian origin, holistic healing through mind, body, and spirit alliance is crucial and therefore this program at BeatCancer.org is the perfect fit. My focus and passion on health, wellness, and nutrition and living abundantly have come through the formation of the non-profit, Diya Holistic Life Care. I also provide Coaching services and tutoring for children and families through Love & Light 4 Kidz LLC. I am here with you on this journey and know that I am a holding space for you! TRANSCRIPT Artie: You do have some time to think, yes, the tumors are growing...I'm talking about active diagnosis. You do have time to think but oftentimes what ends up happening is, anxiety for everybody kicks in and so having somebody on your side like a coach or someone that can help you to realize you do have choices.  And choices embody transformation, right? If we get pigeonholed in something, then our power is taken away. I just want to remind people we do have lots of choices. We just have to be presented with them on the plate. Automated:  Hello and welcome to the Beat Cancer Answer, brought to you by beatcancer.org the center for advancement in cancer education. Carl: This is Carl Wagner. I'm here with beatcancer.org, the center for advancement in cancer education and we have one of our great coaches, Artie Kumar Jing. Is that correct?  Good, I got it thank you.  Instead of introducing Artie, I'm going to let her tell you who she is and what all the initials are behind your name. You have a lot of them. Artie:  There are a lot of them but that doesn't mean much until you can make something of it.  Yes, my name's Artie: and the first role that I can tell you is that I am a mom of two girls that are currently four and six and I got into coaching...it's been about a year's worth of a journey getting into coaching, especially holistic cancer care. I have had my certification now for about four months and I have been...I started my journey actually when it comes to education, a long time ago, about 20 years ago. I started working in preschools then I switched into working in elementary schools, got an undergrad in psychology, and did a minor in conflict resolution.  And along my journey, I always said that I especially would leave the classroom if I was paying attention to other needs for the kids besides the pedagogy of teaching.  Then I went into clinical counseling, Mental Health counseling worked in private practices, in hospital settings, in different clinical settings. And then along the trip...I call it a trip because I really feel like the journey is a trip. I got married and when my family moved back to Virginia, we had kind of moved all over and worked also in another clinical facility. But then I decided I wanted to stay home with my girls.  And my mom who lived in Northern Virginia moved closer to us and she was actually diagnosed with ovarian cancer stage four, back in February of 2018. So, like anyone, when that takes place in your home or whatever. You go through research, you talk to everybody and anybody, you are continually trying to figure out how to beat this thing. So, regardless of beating or not beating, you do make catastrophic changes really quickly.  My mom made a lot of them, I also side by side made some changes.  looked a lot into nutrition, into holistic health and of course, being of Indian origin, my mom was already into some of that stuff. I have always looked into it, but it became very apparent in the research that the holistic approach of mind, body, spirit needs to be in place. Carl: So, that's what brought you to beat cancer then?  Or did you look at other things first? Artie:  Oh no, sorry.  She did pass but long story short in her passing, she had written some life stages down in one of her books, and I looked at it and I was like I realized I was supposed to do more with just her journey but to help others. And that's when I looked up to beat cancer...it just came to me; the coaching module was going to be implemented because I love coaching. I love therapy too, but coaching is more about helping that person really meeting their goals and their objectives to help them with that forward momentum.  And so, the beat cancer came up and it was right when I read that descriptor. I didn't even look anywhere else, I just knew that holistic piece of mind, body, spirit, knowing the story behind the founding of it, knowing that there was a personal element touched for her journey, for Dr. Silverstein's journey. And then knowing everyone who's on and a part of that whole entity it didn't take me long.  I literally signed up the day that I saw the website, there was no question that it was the right fit. Carl:  Now I see that you also have your own non-profit is that correct? Artie: Yes. Carl:  Okay, and go ahead tell us a little bit about that. Artie: Sure, the non-profit actually is coaching through the lifespan. We're looking at health coaching and career coaching.  But cancer coaching is a module where I feel of course that it's important to help people in disease prevention and also preventative care.  But also, for those who are in this cycle and we also support end-of-life care through coordination with hospice and through palliative care in different organizations. The goal is to make it on a sliding scale and affordable to folks, so currently, we are working on getting some grants it's in its infancy stage so a lot of it's just starting to build. Carl: Wait a minute is this the kid's nonprofit? Artie:  No, this is the...the kids are a business. Carl: Okay, I thought that was an NPO, but that's your website and that's your Instagram? Artie:  Yes, the website is under development but the Instagram and the Facebook page are all live. Carl: Okay, and do you want to tell us a little bit about that too? Artie: Sure, lovingly for kids is a module where we provide webinars and seminars for organizations as well as for parents and families. Those who are in therapy and may need a module of coaching, we provide those services. We also provide tutoring.  I'm currently...right now we're actually looking at a lot of virtual workshops and after school programs in conjunction with other organizations.  That website is actually currently operating, I apologize it is the non-profit website that is under development. Carl:  Right, I didn't even know about that.  I thought it was just...I was just talking about the kid's website. That's a surprise to me, that's great.  I have to look at my questions here, excuse me I'm sorry we're both new at this. When you went through the course what did you find helpful that you probably didn't know? Artie:  I actually thought it was really helpful that we so I have had this background of nutrition and looking into nutrition. But I thought it was really Right, I good to have the background of the root cause. For instance, I had...for my mom, we had looked into other avenues.  What could have been the cause? We went to a naturopath and the possibility of maybe hormones or whatnot.  But to get the actual descriptors, behind all of these different types of cancers and what we need to examine. We talk about stress on the body, but then, what particular stressors, for that particular cancer. It's almost like you could target that organ and how to really build it up to really reduce that tumor growth or whatnot.  That was extremely helpful and very beneficial. Because it was the first time that I got a chance ever to examine the root cause. Carl:  Yeah, two things that you mentioned, something about meeting people where they are and what you were just talking about, then trying to find the root cause. I think it's very interesting, that there is no one-size-fits-all approach and that's one thing that I think is different about our course.  It's not a diet book, it's not a cookie-cutter program, or a special protocol.  It's about observing people and being able to coach them through from wherever they're at. What did you think was your favorite part of the course that helped you in your coaching? Artie:  I really have to tell you all the nutrition and stuff.  It's so hard, Carl because of the fact that everything has been leading to this holistic mind, body, spirit, and taking care of our body.  Feeding it well and then stress reduction and that kind of thing.  The nutrition pieces are really helping because it just solidified more and more of the research that has already been conducted. But knowing that this institute has already far exceeded when they've been following this module for a long time.  Even before, some people are now getting on the boat to examine what dairy does to the body or to examine how it does look to eat more cleanly. That was when I realized that for me, that's how we can treat this cancer embodiment of preventative and that was really empowering.  Because then, I also feel like...especially in my line of work, where it can, it is about wellness but then preventative wellness and also meeting the person if they are diagnosed.  How we can assist them if they want to make some changes or whatnot. Carl: Right, I think an important thing to know if people are just seeing these coaching videos for the first time, is that we don't tell people not to go to their doctors or to follow a doctor's

BC-076 How 10yr Survivor, Natalie Proenca, Beat Cancer Holistically and has grown to be a Top Cancer Coach

Natalie Proenca conquered breast cancer for over 10 years. Her cancer diagnosis was in 2008 with conventional treatment. Then a few years later she had tumors in ovaries and uterus. Her oncologist confirmed that it was caused by hormonal therapy. She took this chance and used a natural approach and treated it by changing diet and exercises. She has transformed herself using mind-body-spirit and decided to leave her Software Engineer career and was trained as a Cancer Coach with BeatCancer and TrulyHeal, and certified Holistic Integrative Health Coach with IIN. She is also a certified Plant-based Nutrition Graduate at eCornell (with T. Colin Campbell). She's helped many cancer patients recover from the treatments and even help them healed from different types of cancer such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, kidney cancer, colon cancer, thyroid cancer, and brain cancer. She offers online programs; Colon & Kidney Detox and Beat Cancer Naturally. She has a strong passion to guide you to find the best protocol for you to fight cancer and get well. Connect with her on facebook.com/Natalie.Proenca or email at CoachNatalieProenca@gmail.com or 508-282-6698. Natalie:  For someone who just found out that they've been diagnosed with cancer. What should they do? I think the very first thing you need to understand is that you have had cancer for years. You did not have cancer two days ago or two months ago, it has been for a long time. It could take seven to ten or twenty years. If you have lung cancer, it could be thirty years. So do not rush. I want you to step back and then just take a quiet moment and ask yourself, how did you get cancer and what you should do next. Most people, when they learn that they have cancer, get frustrated. They have fears. When you make decisions with fears, you make the wrong decision. I want you to learn, I want you to search, ask people who have been there, who have experience guide you, what you should do. So you have the right path. You don't want to try left and right and back and forth. You're going to lose time. Even though I said, you have been having cancer for a long time, but sometimes when you choose the wrong road, you're losing time and the cancer, it's true that it's growing all the time, but it's not as fast as when you know it. Think about two years, five years ago, you did not know that you have cancer. You never care about cancer. You never really think about it, but now you know that you have cancer, you start having fears, you start worry and that causes cancer to grow very fast. So the first thing you should do is to just step back and ask yourself, what is the right protocol for you? You want to do conventional, or you want to do naturally or you want to do integrative? I want you to sit down and then take a piece of paper and write down pros and cons of each approach and think about what will fit your lifestyle the most, and what's best for yourself because each approach is not the best for everyone. You have to come up with your own protocol and that's the very first step that I want to suggest to anyone that has just been diagnosed with cancer. Intro: Hello and welcome to the Beat Cancer Answer brought to you by beatcancer.org. The center for advancement in cancer education. Carl: This is Carl Wagner. I'm here with Beat Cancer. We're here with another one of our great coaches, Natalie Parenza and I'm going to just shut up and let her speak. So Natalie, please tell us a little bit about yourself, your journey and how you came to beat cancer? Natalie: My name is Natalie. My journey about cancer; I have been diagnosed since 2008, when my youngest son was just 10 months old. I had breast cancer and my son was just learning how to walk. At that time  I had no knowledge. I had no information about alternative medicine or alternative approaches so I don't know what to do. I just took the conventional treatment, just like a lot of people did. So I had surgery, I had chemotherapy, radiation. Then one day I saw one of my friends, she had cancer returned. She had breast cancer before and then she had cancer returned. The second time she had brain cancer and she didn't make it and I have seen a lot of people and I started to realize that conventional treatment is not the answer. I had that experience myself. I was on Tamoxifen, I was on hormone therapy for two years, then it started showing tumor in my ovaries and uterus. So the doctor kept watching the tumor growing, by that time I already told myself that I don't want to be like others, I don't want cancer to return. What should I do? I start taking control of my health and I start searching for the answer, how can I be cancer free? So I study a lot. I started reading books, any books about cancer, I just read it and I started changing my lifestyle, changing my diet. So I told my doctor that I don't want any surgery anymore. I don't want any drugs, nothing. So I started changing, implementing a new diet. I make green smoothie every day and then start cutting meat one by one until finally I was able to switch everything. So I was on a plant based at some point. So I'm not completely vegan or vegetarian, I'm just trying to find what is best for me. So six months after that, the doctor said, what did you do? Your tumor is gone, but the doctor's still giving me Tamoxifen, I still kept taking it because she said, I'm still young. I was diagnosed when I was 36 and she said, okay, because you have an aggressive type, your cancer can come back in five years so you should be on hormone therapy. So I told my doctor that I don't want anything removed, no more surgery. So the first time the tumor was gone, she just said it was a surprise. Maybe it was something of a fault test or something. So I kept taking Tamoxifen more and more and the tumor started growing again. The second time I was able to shrink the tumor, it happened three times until my oncologist said, okay, yes, your hormone therapy is actually causing your tumor to grow. So it took three times for my oncologist to convince me that it was the hormone of therapy that caused that. I knew that, so that time I already have knowledge, I already know what to do with my body so I was not afraid of cancer anymore. So that's my turning point, that's why I want to take control of myself and I start changing. It seems like I have my new life since then. So I have been doing this for more than 10 years now. I've been cancer free for 10 years. Carl: Congratulations. Natalie: Thank you so much, that's how I started to really pay attention and really interested and I want to become a cancer coach and help other people. Carl: Yeah. Make your cancer mean something. Natalie: It does. Carl: Yes. So I hear many similar stories. In fact I might've shared this before with some other coaches, but my mother had breast cancer and she did radiation and I'm not sure if she did chemo, I was pretty young at the time. So she was a statistic of somebody who lived through breast cancer because she lasted more than five years. So they say you're a survivor, but she did die of cancer and it was cancer and that was in her intestinal area. It was actually on top of it. It was strange. So just like you said, the cancer came back and just like you said, a lot of people that the cancer comes back, they must change their lifestyle. Natalie: So that was the thing that I started questioning because when I took the conventional treatment, I did not have any knowledge. My doctor did not tell me, she just said, oh, you can eat everything, but just reduce red meat to just a couple of meals per week and I hear a lot of information from my friends, from the media and it just gets confusing. At some point at the beginning, I actually refused everything because I don't trust anyone. Then I realized why a lot of people have cancer return. So conventional treatment is not the answer. Then I start searching for the truth. Then I realized that, oh my God, I have to do something because I don't want to be like others that have cancer return again. So that's what I start searching and learning and learning and here I am, I believe that my knowledge can help others and if I can save someone's life or someone can use my information, my knowledge that I have been studying for more than 10 years, I want to help other, I want to be the person who opening that door and show them and tell them here. There are so many roads, so many paths that you can choose how to get well without using a conventional treatment or if you want to integrate it both, you have to do something. You have to protect yourself, not to really get cancer again; I have seen some people, some of my clients, that they did not prepare themselves and then when they receive chemotherapy or radiation and they just get sick and sicker, and then they cannot tolerate the medicine, they cannot tolerate the drugs and they didn't make it and that is so sad.  That is why this information is not there for people to know this. Carl: Yeah. It seems that well here in America, when somebody has any type of heart issue, anything, they usually leave the doctor's office with a laundry list of things to do, eat less salt, get more exercise, lose some weight, less red meat. But when we go to the oncology office with cancer, they don't tell you anything it seems, at least in regards to how you can participate in your own healing the way that they deal with heart issues say you get to be a participant, you get to be part of the healing process. So yeah, and what you said about integrative approach. So we don't ever say to anybody don't follow your doctor's advice that would just put us out of business in a heartbeat and set us up for liability. But we absolutely do say look with what our advice is let's change the terrain of your body. Let's get you in the best position for your body to help itself heal because the medicines

BC-075 Intro To A Coach: Jennifer Gale, Tools For Balancing Energy and Releasing Trapped Emotions

Jennifer Gale is a Traditional/Classical Naturopath certified through the American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board (ANMCB) as well as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. She also has certification as a Bio-Energetics practitioner working through the NES program. She gives workshops and lectures throughout the southeast Michigan area on all aspects of Natural Health - with primary focus on Nutrition, Herbs, Reflexology, Essential Oils, Organic Gardening, and Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis. Her most recent work is combining Thermal imaging into client care as a Thermo buzzer consultant. Her interest in cancer stems from the pain and feelings of helplessness she felt seeing many family, friends, colleagues, and others receive a cancer diagnosis and wanting to DO something. As she went through her Naturopathy work, she learned how to approach each person from a unique perspective. Today, Jennifer uses all of her knowledge, resources and connections to be a Beacon of natural education. Jennifer states, "I loved finding Beat Cancer as an organization because it immediately provided a community of people, resources, and credibility that took the same approach that I do with the mind/body/spirit connection, without forcing someone to do what we think is best, but instead supporting the person and their choices." While I was doing the course work I came up with the idea of BEACON - A Half Day Retreat for Cancer Survivors, Thrivers, and their supporters. BC-071 Intro To a Coach: Annette Tello Helps Women With Cancer To Reduce Stress and Gain A Sense of Control Through Creative Expression

Annette Tello has 25 years of experience in rehabilitation counseling and specializes in life transitions coaching. In the last five years, she has concentrated her efforts on working with women with cancer. She has developed her Creative Rx Coaching program and written an award winning book called Creative Prescriptions for Women with Cancer-Tools for Tapping into Your Stress-free, Creative, Happy Healing Space. Art making was an instrumental tool in her own healing from cervical carcinoma in her 30s, and was also key in dealing with stress and anxiety as a child in an abusive household.  Annette wrote Creative Prescriptions for women to explore the process of creating in a way where they could tap into the healing benefits of self-reflection and self-discovery. Creativity is a prescription to reduce stress, raise spirits, and gain a sense of control over one's own health. Listen to this podcast to learn about the benefits of creative expression for the healing process and how it can help to release emotions so a new authentic self can emerge. Learn about Annette's experience with creativity and how her book and her programs can help anyone on their cancer journey.  3:11 For the first time I experienced being mindful and completely centered and grounded. I experienced blissful moments in the creative zone. The finished products gave me things like recognition and positive praise. Art making saved my life.   5:20 In Dr Bernie Siegel's book, Love, Medicine and Miracles he tells his patients to find something that puts them in the creative zone, because that's the most healing state the body can be in. That can be gardening, music etc.   6:58 Creating art for product is very different than creating art for process. I wanted art to be a tool for me, not to make a living. So I got a degree in Psychology with a major in art. And then I got a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.   8:23 My whole life had been working with people recovering from accident or illness who need to reinvent themselves.   8:39 In the last six years, I got a job with Jewish family services working with women with breast cancer. During this time I got the idea for my book. I saw women were lost and didn't have the tools they needed for their life.   10:19 There are 6 prescriptions in the book with activities.   13:34 When you have cancer you have to heal body, mind and spirit because you are an intuitive, creative, spiritual, intellectual and emotional being and all those parts of you need to be part of the healing process.   16:57 The book is user friendly. The supplies are not a lot of money, and you don't need to be artistic. It's about the process of creating for healing benefits. You are in the flow, relaxing, and having fun like when we were children.   19:23 You can do the activities and get what you need in the moment, but you can go deeper and journal. This books helps people to be able to move on with their lives after treatment because they've dealt with their emotions.   25:55 I have found that the women that I work with and have cancer that have a strong faith, not necessarily religion, do better with treatment. A spiritual practice is a powerful tool to lean on. You can start with positive affirmations.     Annette Tello M.S. WHAT: Therefore, our mission is to help people by providing research-based education on how to prevent, cope with, and beat cancer through diet, lifestyle, and other immune-boosting approaches. HOW: We deliver Cancer Education in 4 ways: 1) Educational materials for cancer prevention and control. 2) Free individualized counseling for people battling cancer. 3) Health Professional Training / Certification for Doctors and other Health Professionals. 4) Public seminars and conferences for cancer prevention and control.
