Episode 35 - How Storytelling Helps You Heal and Re-Emerge

Episode Summary This week, Jeanetta opens up about the past four months of unexpected challenges, including three significant mountain bike crashes that left her with broken ribs and a fractured pinky. Rather than hiding away, she shares what it’s looked like to slow down, process, and find presence in the midst of disruption. In this vulnerable solo episode, Jeanetta reflects on how life’s interruptions can become invitations — to pause, to feel, and to reconnect with your body’s wisdom. She explores what it means to show up honestly, even when things aren’t polished or perfect, and how storytelling helps us move through pain toward meaning. In this episode you’ll hear: * Jeanetta’s honest account of three consecutive bike crashes and their physical/emotional impact * How slowing down created space for presence and self-reflection * Why hiding can sometimes be protective — and how to re-emerge with intention * The power of storytelling as a tool for healing, connection, and marketing differently * An invitation to honor your own seasons of setback, rest, and renewal If you’ve been navigating a hard season, this episode will remind you that you’re not alone — and that your body, your story, and your timing are all worthy of respect. Episode 34 - Becoming Her Stories

Episode Summary This week, Jeanetta welcomes a very special guest—her mom, Doraine. After an unexpected bike crash and a broken collarbone, Jeanetta calls in reinforcements to introduce a new project close to both of their hearts: Becoming Her Stories. Together they share the vision behind this five-week storytelling workshop and podcast series, designed to help women reflect on their lives, write their stories, and celebrate their journeys in community. Doraine brings her decades of experience as a writer, editor, and creative coach, while Jeanetta brings her love for podcasting and authentic conversation. The result? A unique blend of healing, storytelling, and ecosystem marketing that amplifies women’s voices while supporting their businesses and leadership. In this episode you’ll hear: * Doraine’s background in writing, editing, and guiding others to tell their stories * Why storytelling is both healing and transformative * How the 5-week workshop helps participants move from free-writing to a polished story * The role of befriending your inner critic in the creative process * How Becoming Her Stories integrates authentic marketing and collective amplification * Opportunities for participants, including blog features, podcast interviews, and professional photography If you’ve ever felt like your story doesn’t matter—or that it’s too overwhelming to tell—this episode will encourage you to take it one bite at a time, honor your resilience, and step onto the stage with the support of a community cheering you on. Episode 33 - When the Tools Start Working

Hi, love—and welcome back to Becoming Her. It’s Steph here, Jeanetta’s partner behind the scenes, usually editing and cheering from the background. This year has been one of deep growth for me. Again and again, I find myself revisiting old beliefs and patterns—gently asking if they still serve the woman I’m becoming. With growth comes discomfort: the tender work of sitting with feelings, naming them honestly, and allowing myself to process what I’m actually experiencing. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. The hard reality is that we are ultimately the ones who get to choose and reframe how we want to feel and how we want to show up in this world. I choose to live with purpose and lead with intention. Having this as my north star brings me peace. When I notice unhappiness or anger rising, I’ve learned to pause and look inward, asking what I can shift to return to my calm, grounded place. Because that’s what today’s episode is really about—what happens when the tools you’ve gathered start to work, and the invitation to take radical responsibility for your life. It’s both terrifying and liberating, but it’s also where real growth begins. So as you listen, I invite you to be curious and look at yourself honestly—notice the places where your tools are already working, and ask what it might look like to live with radical responsibility today. Much Love, Steph Woods Episode Summary Hi love, and welcome back to Becoming Her. In this episode, Jeanetta gets real about that pivotal (and scary) moment in healing when the tools you’ve been practicing actually start to work—and you can no longer hide behind the story that you’re “not ready yet.” She explores what it means to move beyond collecting tools, certifications, or self-help practices, and instead step into action, radical responsibility, and living with intention. From nervous system regulation to financial literacy, from coffee habits to storytelling, Jeanetta shares personal examples of how growth sneaks up on us, and why honesty and small, consistent changes matter more than perfection. This conversation is part wake-up call, part permission slip: to stop waiting, to celebrate your progress, and to live the life you want right now. Mentioned in this episode: * The nervous system freeze vs. challenge response * Radical responsibility and belief systems * Growth through podcasting and consistency * Coffee, sugar, and old patterns of numbing * Storytelling as a tool for healing and visibility * Sneak peek: the upcoming Becoming Her Stories program Resources & Ways to Connect: * Website: somamoonwellness.com * Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections * Instagram: @somamoonwellness * Questions or requests? Episode 31 - How to Feel Your Emotions Without Being Hijacked

Hi Love! Welcome back to Becoming Her. I’m Steph, Jeanetta’s business partner. Most days you’ll find me behind the scenes polishing episodes and quietly cheering her on, but today I wanted to share a recent experience of feeling big emotions in my body. This past week I was in Minneapolis visiting family and friends. I haven’t lived in South Minneapolis in over a decade, and between the hugs, the familiar streets, and the conversations that stretched late into the night, I could feel myself carrying more than just my backpack. I’ve been doing a lot of self-work lately, learning to notice, name, and process my emotions. And still, in the middle of all that love and connection, there were moments when my body spoke louder than my words. One night, seven of us were tossing around ideas about where to eat. I’d been craving vegetables after a fried-food binge the day before, but it was Monday and most places were closed. Everyone kept asking me what I wanted, and I just froze. The map searches weren’t helping, the choices felt too big, and the overwhelm hit me like a wave. In that moment, my body was so full of feeling I couldn’t form a sentence. So I cried. I stepped out of the room, not because I didn’t care, but because I needed to feel what was happening before I could speak. And that’s the practice, isn’t it? To notice when our bodies are asking for a pause. To let the tears be the translation when words aren’t ready. This week, Jeanetta guides us through the tender, necessary work of learning how to feel our emotions without being hijacked by them. She breaks down the science of the nervous system, shares somatic tools for noticing and naming sensations, and offers step-by-step ways to process fear, grief, and anxiety so they don’t run the show. Listening reminded me that these moments aren’t failures, they’re invitations—to be curious instead of judgmental, to return to our breath, and to remember that emotions are just energy in motion. Much love, Steph Episode Summary In this powerful follow-up to last week’s conversation on shame and leadership, Jeanetta Bodie takes us deeper into the how—how to actually feel your emotions in your body without being controlled by them. You’ll learn why emotions live in the nervous system, how to separate sensations from stories, and simple somatic tools to help you process feelings instead of getting stuck in them. Drawing on both science and lived experience, Jeanetta shares step-by-step practices for noticing, naming, breathing through, and completing emotional cycles. From “what-if fantasy” anxiety to “regret hangover” depression, she offers a grounded, compassionate approach to staying present—especially during life’s messy transitions. Whether you’re leading a team, raising a family, or simply navigating change, this episode will help you build the emotional capacity needed for authentic leadership. What You’ll Hear in This Episode: * Why emotions are more than thoughts—they’re experiences in your nervous system * The difference between the somatic and autonomic nervous systems * How to name sensations before attaching a story or identity to them * The role of breath in signaling safety to your body * Practical tools for processing fear, grief, and anxiety without getting stuck * The leadership power of tending to your own inner ecosystem first Resources & Links Mentioned: * The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron * Empower Your Core course – now moving to somamoonwellness.com * Join the free Soma Circle Pilot Session – August 20, 4 PM PT (email Jeanetta at jeanetta@somamoonwellness.com for the Zoom link) * Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections * Instagram: @somamoonwellness This is a public episode. Episode 30 - Shame, Humiliation & the Leadership Gift We Overlook

Episode 30 – Shame, Humiliation & the Leadership Gift We Overlook In this raw and deeply personal episode of Becoming Her, Jeanetta Bodie explores the difference between embarrassment, true shame, and toxic shame—and why our fear of them so often keeps us from taking risks. Through candid storytelling, she shares moments from her own life and leadership, from closing her yoga studio to a recent string of humbling mishaps, unpacking how shame can either isolate us or lead us toward humility, self-awareness, and deeper connection. With insights from authors Chip Dodd and Parker Palmer, Jeanetta reframes shame as a potential teacher rather than a sentence. She offers practices for processing it—both in solitude and in the safety of a trusted community—and connects it to Soma Moon’s vision for regenerative leadership: leading from wholeness, rhythm, and inner alignment. If you’ve ever carried the sting of humiliation, wrestled with self-worth, or wondered how to lead without abandoning yourself, this episode is a gentle but unflinching guide. What You’ll Hear in This Episode: * The difference between embarrassment, true shame, and toxic shame * Why shame is so tied to our ego—and how to shift from “I am a mistake” to “I made a mistake” * Personal stories of humility and self-forgiveness from Jeanetta’s own leadership journey * The role of nervous system awareness in processing shame * How community can hold space for the soul without judgment * An introduction to Soma Moon’s regenerative leadership approach * Invitation to join the free Soma Circle Pilot on August 20th and Soma Leadership Coaching Mentioned in this episode: * The Voice of the Heart by Chip Dodd * A Hidden Wholeness by Parker Palmer * “Part of Me” by Collie Buddz Resources & Ways to Connect: * Website: somamoonwellness.com * Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections * Instagram: @somamoonwellness * Questions or requests? The Sabbatical: Rest, Reflection & Riding Whistler - Episode 29

Hi, love—it’s Steph. Jeanetta and I have different ways of unwinding. She heads to the mountains with her bike; I find my rhythm on the river with a raft. But what we both know, deep in our bones, is the power of unplugging—of letting nature hold us while we remember who we are. Listening to this episode, I could feel the exhale in her voice—the kind that only comes when we finally give ourselves permission to rest. It brought me right back to those long days on the river, when the only thing I have to track is whether I’m hungry or where the sun is in the sky. I love how nature rearranges us—how our faces soften, our bodies lighten, and joy becomes something you can actually see and feel. And there’s nothing quite like nature’s version of television: watching the wild unfold in real time. The way a bear steps quietly into a clearing, how sunlight flickers across moving water, or how an eagle circles overhead—unscripted, unrepeatable, and somehow always exactly what you needed. This episode isn’t really about mountain biking or van life. It’s about what happens when we stop pushing and start listening. If you’ve ever longed for a slower pace, or needed permission to press pause, this one’s for you. Much love, Steph Episode Summary In this deeply personal episode, Jeanetta invites you into the raw in-between—the space after closing her yoga studio and before launching what’s next. From the floor of her bedroom in pajamas, she reflects on a 28-day sabbatical spent living in a van, biking the mountains of Whistler, and slowing down in ways she never has before. More than a travel story, this is a gentle offering: a real-time glimpse into what it looks like to practice what you teach. Jeanetta shares the rhythms of van life, the joy of mountain biking with her family, the unexpected stillness, and the sacred discomfort of not being ready to “do” again just yet. This isn’t an episode filled with business strategy or educational frameworks. It’s a soft landing pad. A reminder that growth includes rest. That leadership includes not knowing. And that sometimes, showing up simply means telling the truth about where you are. What You’ll Hear In This Episode: * The surprising grief and tenderness after closing Iron Crane Yoga * Behind the scenes of 24 days living in a van across Canada * Why Whistler Bike Park feels like Disneyland for mountain bikers * Family rituals, daily rhythms, and the power of simplified living * Rest as resistance—and what it really looked like for Jeanetta * Reflections on van life, motherhood, and being present without a plan * A simple game (Best, Worst, Weirdest) you can borrow for reflection * The honest truth about returning home and still not being ready Take This With You: This episode is an invitation to listen without comparison. To hear one woman’s version of slowing down without thinking you have to do it the same way. If your nervous system is tired, if your life feels loud, or if you’re in a transition—this is your permission slip to pause, even if it looks different than you imagined. Episode 28 - The Power of Your Inner Rhythm

Hi love, Steph here. This episode stirred something deep in me. The idea that we, as women, move through inner seasons and that our hormones shape how we feel and think each day was a true aha moment. I’ve always thought of myself as an emotional person, but when I started tracking my cycle, the waves of emotion and spiraling thoughts finally made sense. It gave me compassion. It reminded me I’m not broken, I’m simply riding the natural rhythms of hormonal shifts. That insight changed how I relate to myself. It helped me interrupt the old patterns of self-sabotage and instead offer grace, especially during the times I used to feel most defeated. What I’m learning is this: it’s not a one-and-done kind of practice. There are layers to it. At first, I just noticed how I felt emotionally. Now I’m tuning into my physical body, experimenting with what kinds of movement feel best in different phases of the month. And yep, I still mix up follicular and luteal sometimes. (Anyone else?) As part of this journey, I created Your Inner Rhythm tracker to help bring more awareness and intention to each phase. What surprised me, though, was that my first few versions had mostly negative reflections. I hadn’t even realized it until Jeanetta gently pointed it out. Why is it that, as women, we so often default to what’s wrong? What if we focused more on what’s working, what’s beautiful, what’s true? How might that shift not just our moods, but the way we feel in our bodies? I’m a visual learner, and I love sharing tools that bring rhythm and clarity to the chaos. If you’re on this path too, I hope the tracker helps you reconnect with your own natural flow and maybe even celebrate it. Here’s to honoring the seasons within. With love, Steph Episode Summary In this expansive and heartfelt episode of Becoming Her, Jeanetta shifts from the science of hormones and cycle tracking into the energetic and spiritual side of embodiment. After several deep dives into the physical layers of women’s health, she now invites you to explore the subtle body—what we feel, intuit, and know beyond words. Through the lens of yogic philosophy and lived experience, Jeanetta shares teachings from her Living Yoga program, including the five koshas (layers of the self), the chakra system, and the energetic flows of manifestation and liberation. She unpacks how these teachings help us recognize our own inner rhythm—and why learning to trust that rhythm is essential to how we live, lead, and relate to others. With honesty and vulnerability, Jeanetta reflects on her postpartum journey, the grief of closing her studio, and the importance of deep female friendship and collaboration. The episode closes with a guided meditation to help you connect with your sankalpa—your inner soul whisper—and remember that you already carry the wisdom you seek. Whether you’re brand new to energetic practices or deep in your healing journey, this episode is a soft place to land. What You’ll Hear in This Episode: * The 5 koshas and how they shape our understanding of the body, mind, and spirit * Why it’s important to honor both science and intuition in women’s health * The energetic body and how emotion manifests in physical sensation * A powerful reframe of labor, rest, and cyclical living as leadership tools * How to be a “life doula” in your relationships and partnerships * The upward current of liberation and downward current of manifestation in the chakra system * Why inner rhythm—not perfection—is the foundation of sustainable change * A guided Living Yoga meditation to connect to your inner knowing (sankalpa) Mentioned in the Episode: * Living Yoga – A foundational program from Soma Moon Wellness focused on cyclical living and self-leadership * Empower Your Core – A self-paced course for pelvic floor health and body awareness * Soma Moon Leadership Circle – A container for embodied leadership and intuitive strategy * Carrie by Stephen King – A literary moment that sparked reflection on generational silence around menstruation * Teachings by Anodea Judith on chakras and energy flow * The Cycle of Grace by Frank Lake * Quote by Thich Nhat Hanh: “The quality of our actions depends on the quality of our being.” Resources & Ways to Connect: * Website: somamoonwellness.com * Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections * Instagram: @somamoonwellness Questions or requests?
