John 11: LAZARUS, COME FORTH! What If the Dead Thing Isn’t Finished?

What happens when Jesus stands in front of the thing you have already buried? In John 11, Lazarus has been dead for four days. The stone is in place, the mourners have gathered, and Martha knows Jesus could have changed the story—but now it seems too late. Then Jesus arrives. He doesn’t just speak about resurrection; He reveals Himself as the Resurrection. In this episode of Bedroom & Bible, April and John Foster walk through John 11 and wrestle with the places in our lives, families, marriages, churches, communities, and hearts that may appear dead, buried, or beyond hope. What if Jesus is still saying, “Take away the stone”? What if the thing you’ve buried can still hear His voice? April and John also introduce a four-day “Lazarus Fast,” remembering the four days Lazarus was in the tomb and setting apart intentional time to seek God, examine their hearts, pray corporately, repent, and believe Him for resurrection life. Together, they take communion and explore connections between John 11, Psalm 91, Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness, spiritual protection, surrender, and the authority of God’s Word. This isn’t about manipulating God into resurrecting what we want; it’s about surrendering enough to ask: Lord, what are You calling out of the tomb? What stone are You asking me to move? What grave clothes need to come off? And do I really believe that You are the Resurrection and the Life? Jesus stood outside a tomb everyone else believed was final and cried, “Lazarus, come forth!” It’s time to seek Him, pray, repent, and remember the power of the cross and resurrection. Maybe it’s time to stop calling dead what Jesus isn’t finished with yet. Grab your Bible, prepare your heart, take communion with us, and if the Holy Spirit is leading you, join us for the four-day Lazarus Fast as we seek the Father together. The stone is not the end of the story. The tomb is not the end of the story. Death does not get the final word. Jesus does.
