Defying Parkinson's: Scott Hanley on Exercise, Mindset, and Resilience

In this inspiring episode of the Bee Sober Podcast, we sit down with Scott Hanley, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2018. When traditional medication wasn’t providing the relief he hoped for, Scott turned to a powerful alternative: exercise. Parkinson's has no cure, but numerous studies have shown that regular physical activity can significantly alleviate symptoms and slow the progression of the disease. After reading about others’ success stories, Scott embraced the intensity of CrossFit—a fitness program known for its combination of strength and conditioning exercises. The dynamic workouts include movements like burpees, deadlifts, rowing, squats, and more—helping to build endurance, strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination, all of which can make a huge difference for those battling Parkinson’s. This episode ties perfectly into the overarching theme of the podcast: believing in yourself and the power of mindset. Scott’s journey reflects the same ideas we've discussed with previous guests like Anna and Angela, who shared their own stories of resilience, positive affirmations, and the mental choices that fuel transformation. Tune in for a conversation that highlights the strength of the human spirit and the importance of choosing wellness, no matter the obstacles. Running Beyond Limits: Dr. Angela White on Endurance, Perseverance & Passion

In this inspiring episode of the Bee Sober Podcast, Lisa and Alex sit down with the incredible Dr. Angela White, also known as The Running Granny.  Dr. Angela White, widely known as The Running Granny, is a retired doctor, surgeon with a special interest in hip fracture, and qualified personal trainer with a deep passion for healthy ageing and the power of movement to transform lives. With a career spanning medicine, surgery, fitness, and technology, she combines medical expertise, lived experience, and relentless curiosity to inspire individuals and professionals alike to take action for lifelong health. Angela’s journey into running began at the age of 53, in 2012, when she took her own "small steps" to improve her health after years of being overworked, overweight, unfit, and unhappy. At the same time she started running, she was introduced to endurance and ultra-running, and she became fascinated by what the human body can achieve when challenged. Since then, she has completed a range of extreme endurance events, including 100-mile races, 24-hour challenges, 190-mile coast-to-coast ultras and various mountain challenges. In 2024 she represented Great Britain in the European Multisport Championships bringing home two age-group bronze medals in duathlon and half ironman distance triathlon. Most recently, in January, she completed the gruelling Spine Challenger North, 160 miles along the Pennine Way in winter. We were so captivated by her story that we ended up chatting with Angela for over an hour after the podcast ended too—she has that much more to offer! Her journey is a true testament to perseverance, determination, and the power of pushing beyond limits, no matter your age.
