Before Brunch

So I downloaded this podcast to listen to on a flight. I found it by searching Meghan Markle. They got me once, but they won’t get me or my listen again. The technical: both the host’s (1 of 2 regular hosts) and the guest’s mics were too low. The ads played at the appropriate volume, but the volume for the show was spotty at best. The content: There was the usual podcast banter about what is going on in the presenter’s lives. That was fine, but the theme was that once one reaches a certain age (they say 28 🙄) one wants to feel settled and in control of one’s life and that people make decisions geared towards a planned future at this point. After this conversation and some good commentary about Princess Eugenie’s wedding, the duo spent at least 10 minutes lamenting the fact that Meghan comes across as self-assured and commenced to paint her as some diabolical attention-seeking schemer. They highlight the guest’s history with royal coverage, then echo the false reports that the Sussexes announced their pregnancy to the royal family at the wedding, even though it’s been widely reported and Prince Charles confirmed that the family knew of the pregnancy before Friday. The wedding was just the first occasion some family members had to congratulate the couple in person. They totally erase Harry from the narrative as if he has no agency to the point where they are annoyed that Meghan held an umbrella for him because it seemed like it was contrived, but they didn’t mention that Harry asked her to do it. This duo can find Eugenie and Kate relatable, but somehow can’t fathom a 37 year old woman who is confident in who she is and knows what she wants in both her career and personal life. They don’t stop there. They contort facts and erase publicly available truths to fit their cynical narrative. I won’t speculate as to why. I just know after one listen that this show isn’t for me.
