Before the Bar Opens

This show is an expanding set of conversations where the host talks to people who work with music for a living. If that sounds like a wide topic, that’s because it is. Just take a look at what kind of work each guest does to get a sense of how big: busker, music festival organizer, opera singer, guitar maker, etc. The host of this podcast, Emma Clarke, is a voice you have probably heard before if you live in the UK, having been the voice of the underground in London (you know, “Mind the gap”? That’s Emma). She is a consummate pro with an interest in all forms of audio and beyond that, communication in general. Emma takes an honest interest in the experiences of each guest and gives them space to talk about it while still bringing each episode in at a reasonable 30 minutes (more or less). She brings her considerable talents for production to this effort so not only does it *sound* great, the conversation stays focused. One of the recurring things I appreciate is the honest laughter on both sides of the mic.
