BEHIND the SCENES with Michael Golab

Listening to Michael’s conversations with his guests has been wonderful. There is a certain chemistry between him and his guest that comes across in the conversations which draws the listener in. Michael’s guests share thoughtful, generous and honest ideas, and his astute questioning helps draw out interesting nuances. The lessons and ideas are applicable beyond the arts and theatre crowd, and Michael gets them to share in a way that highlights both his and their evident passion for and commitment to their work. I have shared many episodes with clients and team members in our mergers & acquisition business. The conversations highlighting the craft and nuances of storytelling (Alfreds), finding your voice (Rodenburg), and integrating disciplines (Metcalfe) in particular have resonated with us. Before stumbling upon this podcast, I never understood the allure of acting. Especially in theatre. The 2x daily shows, the same lines over and over again, the stage and the same group of people day in and day out for a season. It all sounds a bit clinical to someone at the opposite end of the career spectrum. I knew there must be more, but I never saw it. Even as someone who went to 30+ shows per year pre-pandemic. But the depth, joy, pride and meaning from their work these guests convey in these conversations really help show how vibrant, and almost essential this art form is to connect us all in this fabric of humanity.

This new series takes a deep dive into creative processes with various masters of craft in theatre and film. Especially during Covid while most arts institutions are shut, Michael Golab is helping feed our virtual community of artists through these intimate and personal interviews. Highly recommended for inspiration, insight, and to grab onto some hope that we can continue to build our craft, even in days when you can’t be onstage or in a rehearsal room.
