The Sleep Doctor: A Prescription for Better Sleep

What if there were a strategy, backed by science, that could finally deliver you the deep and restorative sleep you've been searching for? Like most of us, Grace struggled with her sleep. She tried everything, magnesium, melatonin, counting sheep, nothing worked. And then one night while on the Reddit insomnia board, Grace noticed one particular strategy that kept coming up. So she tried it. In less than a week, Grace had transformed her relationship with sleep. She went from six, to seven, to eight hours of peaceful, deep, and restorative sleep every single night. As her sleep improved, so did her mood and her relationship with husband and kids felt the best they had in years. And here’s where it gets crazy. Simply by getting her sleep right, she lost weight and her blood sugar levels improved so much that in just six months she was able to get off all of her meds. The strategy Grace used is based on the research of Dr. Charles Czeisler, tenured professor at Harvard Medical School. They call him The Sleep Doctor. He’s advised everyone from NASA astronauts to Fortune 500 executives and today, I get to share his strategy with you. In today's episode, we dive deep into why we sleep revealing the surprising effects sleep has on our physical and mental health. We’ll discuss how sleep consistency may be more important than how many hours you sleep. We’ll explore the essentials of sleep hygiene, the role of exercise, and whether naps are good for us. If you're looking for a science-backed way to optimize your sleep, this episode is for you. author: David Zodda, MD board-certified physician fellowship trained in knowledge translation and evidence-based medicine peer reviewer: Eric Sklar, MD board certified physician in sleep medicine and director of the Inova Health Systems Sleep Disorders program BetterMedicine.com newsletter sign-up coaching sign-up
