York Mumbler: Emily Pickard on building a thriving online community for parents

York Mumbler has become a lifeline for thousands of parents.  The website gets over 40K hits a month with parents looking for things to do in York, plus a thriving social media community of parents supporting each other. It has now become the first stop for businesses to promote themselves and events happening across the City. Emily Pickard founded York Mumbler after her children were born. Armed with a successful career in marketing working for the likes of McCain Foods and Arla, Emily made the decision to push Mumbler forward to support other parents like herself. Emily discusses the decision to change her career path after her kids came along, the timeline of growing from "the kitchen table" to the award winning business it is today, and offers up her advice to parents feeling isolated. Mat Lazenby: How York can leverage its 'UNESCO City of Media Arts' status

In 2014, York was designated a UNESCO City of Media Arts. This means York is part of a global network of 'Creative Cities' that pledge to put creative industries at the heart of their ongoing development. Mat Lazenby is a Past Master of the Guild of Media Arts, which was formed as a result of the designation. As Creative Director of LazenbyBrown, a brand communications agency in York, Mat is keen to see the city further embrace the UNESCO status for years to come. Sophie went along to his studio on the Shambles to discuss his thoughts on what needs to be done to turn York into the go-to city for media studies and cultural tourism. He also chats about why young people should feel reassured if they want a career in the creative sector. Kyra Women's Project: Rosemary Cook CBE

Kyra Women’s Project is a York charity that helps women faced with challenges make positive change in their lives. It’s just celebrated it’s 10th anniversary and now helps over 200 local women through activities, courses, therapies, and events. These services are all provided by volunteers, and receives no statutory funding, so Kyra has to rely on grants and fundraising to continue to deliver these services free of charge to women who need support.  Sophie Hudson met with Rosemary Cook, the outgoing CEO of Kyra Women’s Project about the life-changing support the charity offers. Later in the episode, Sophie meets with a member of the Rose Project, which helps young women from the age of 18-25. The member explains how she has benefitted from the group activities, having suffered with her mental health and talks candidly about how Kyra has changed her life.
