Ep. 51 - The First Voice Patients Hear: Connection, Volume, and Trust

Dr. Daniel Noorthoek and Erica sit down with Robert Odom and Alex for a conversation that explores the patient journey from an angle most people never see—the very first phone call. What makes this episode unique is that both Robert and Alex are Done In One patients themselves. Today, they sit on the other side of the experience, helping guide new patients through the earliest and often most overwhelming stage of the process. Alex, who works remotely from Indiana as a Patient Advocate, is often the first voice patients hear when they reach out. She talks about how her own journey as a patient naturally shapes the way she communicates—especially with anxious callers—and why she only brings that experience into conversations when it genuinely helps build trust and clarity, not as a sales tool. Robert joins from the marketing side to break down how leads are generated, how patient stories fuel the majority of Done In One’s messaging, and why the organization has intentionally built a system centered on human connection rather than call centers or scripts. Together, they explore how Alex acts as the critical bridge between marketing and treatment coordination, and how that handoff impacts both patient experience and overall case flow. The conversation also dives into what it actually looks like behind the scenes: managing high-volume inquiries across multiple locations, using CRM systems and automation tools like HubSpot, and balancing efficiency with a deeply personal, conversation-driven approach. They also discuss how AI is beginning to support administrative work—freeing up more time for meaningful patient interaction rather than replacing it. At its core, this episode is about trust from the very first touchpoint—and how two patients now help shape that experience for every new person who reaches out. 🎧 Listen now and go beyond the arches with us!💻 Visit the DIO website for more information: https://getdoneinone.com📩 Email questions or comments: smile@getdoneinone.com☎️ Speak to a Patient Care Coordinator: (561) 468-8812📲 FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA AS WE BUILD OUR COMMUNITY! Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/BeyondTheArches TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@beyond.the.arches Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/beyond_the_arches_podcast YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@BeyondTheArchesJoin our private, uncensored Facebook Group and talk with other current and future patients 24/7: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/12JXkZuHhkg/?mibextid=wwXIfrThank you for being part of the Done In One® experience!

Ep. 50 - "Remember When…" 50 Episodes of Beyond the Arches

To celebrate 50 episodes of Beyond the Arches, Dr. Daniel Noorthoek and Erica do something a little different. Inspired by the classic Friends "Remember When…" episodes, they take a step back to revisit the moments, stories, and conversations that have defined the first year of the show. The episode opens where it always has, with the patients. Through a montage of clips, listeners get a look back at the wide range of people who've sat down to share their stories, from patients fresh out of surgery to those years into life with their new smile. Their backgrounds and life experiences vary, but their journeys share a familiar arc. Years of struggle, a turning point, the search that led them to Done In One, a process that wasn't as scary as expected, and a life on the other side that changed in the best way possible. From there, Dr. Dan walks through the team that's brought it all to life. Each team member's voice comes back into focus, including their philosophies, their day-to-day approach with patients, and the moments that have shaped how Done In One operates. The conversation also revisits a few unforgettable guest appearances and behind-the-scenes moments that capture what makes this team different. 50 episodes in, the takeaway is the same as episode one: it's always been about the patient. Treat people like family. Do things the right way. Ep. 49 - Patient Interview - Alex: From Patient to Coworker

In this episode of Beyond the Arches, Dr. Daniel Noorthoek and Erica sit down with Alex, Dawn's daughter from last week's episode, and the first voice patients hear when they call Done In One. Alex works remotely from Indiana as a Patient Treatment Coordinator, and her path to that role is one of a kind: she was a patient first. Alex shares a decades-long dental history that started with root resorption from early braces, deepened when her family lost insurance, and accelerated when her teeth began breaking off at 17. At 18, she had root canals, posts, and crowns placed on every remaining tooth over the course of a year, only to watch them fail within months. Facing an implant quote far out of reach as a young waitress, she got dentures at 21, then took matters into her own hands by buying a Dremel, teaching herself on YouTube, and rebuilding her denture fit at home. During COVID, she started sharing her journey on TikTok and built a following inside the denture and implant community, which is how Done In One eventually found her.Alex and her mom, Dawn, had their full-arch surgeries on the same day roughly four years ago. Alex has had two implants fail and be replaced over the years, and she describes how smoothly each was handled, with no pain, no infection, and no drama. She also shares how a small bite adjustment along the way nearly eliminated her TMJ pain. The conversation also gets personal: her remote workday rhythm, her move from rural Pennsylvania to Indiana, popcorn ceilings she scraped off by hand, rock tumbling, her dogs Buster and Vincent, and a childhood pet possum named Mickey. At its core, this episode is about why Alex is often the perfect first call for a nervous lead. She has personally lived through many of the same fears and questions that new patients bring to her today. If you haven't heard Ep. 48 with her mom, Dawn, yet, give it a listen for the other half of this mother-daughter story.🎧 Listen now and go beyond the arches with us!💻 Visit the DIO website for more information: https://getdoneinone.com📩 Email questions or comments: smile@getdoneinone.com☎️ Speak to a Patient Care Coordinator: (561) 468-8812📲 FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA AS WE BUILD OUR COMMUNITY! Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/BeyondTheArches TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@beyond.the.arches Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/beyond_the_arches_podcast YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@BeyondTheArchesJoin our private, uncensored Facebook Group and talk with other current and future patients 24/7: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/12JXkZuHhkg/?mibextid=wwXIfrThank you for being part of the Done In One® experience! We’re excited to take you beyond the arches, one story at a time.

    APR 21

Ep. 48 - Patient Interview - Pennsylvania Dawn: Four Years Later

In this episode of Beyond the Arches, Dr. Daniel Noorthoek and Erica sit down with Dawn, a patient from Dallas, Pennsylvania who went through her full-arch journey four years ago alongside her daughter Alex — a true mommy-daughter makeover done on the same day. Dawn shares what finally pushed her to act after years of recurring infections and swelling, and how she was just weeks away from settling for a $1,500 denture before Done In One changed the plan. She opens up about being nervous going in, opting for oral sedation instead of IV, and her pro tip for future patients: bring headphones and a favorite album (hers was Heart). Four years later, she's had one adjustment, zero implant issues, and a Philips water flosser she calls her best friend. Dr. Dan and Dawn also dig into why ice cream is her favorite post-surgery win, and have a fascinating tangent about pressure sensors and why some patients feel "their own teeth" within weeks while others take a year. Beyond the dental chair, Dawn shares her life story — from surviving the Blizzard of '77 in Buffalo, to raising three kids in Pennsylvania, to the day-to-day reality of caring for her oldest daughter Jessica, who has microcephaly and cerebral palsy. It's an honest, warm conversation about family, resilience, and finally being able to smile (and eat ice cream) again. Stay tuned for next week's episode featuring Dawn's daughter, Alex, for the other half of this mother-daughter story. We’re excited to take you beyond the arches, one story at a time.

  5. Ep. 47 - Refresh Cases: A Second Chance at Full-Arch — Part 1

    APR 14

    Ep. 47 - Refresh Cases: A Second Chance at Full-Arch — Part 1

In this kickoff episode, host Erica is joined by Dr. Daniel Noorthoek and Dr. Sarah Laks to introduce one of Done In One's most meaningful new offerings: the Refresh. A refresh case is when a patient who had full-arch implant surgery somewhere else — locally, across the country, or overseas — comes to Done In One looking for a real solution. Maybe they're stuck in a temporary arch they hate. Maybe their final is failing. Maybe their original office just can't help anymore. Dr. Dan and Dr. Laks break down what makes these cases both complex and rewarding: the investigative work of assessing implant health, identifying parts (some of which no longer exist), and finding the "Rosetta Stone" of full-arch dentistry — the multi-unit abutment — that brings every patient into the Done In One system. They share real cases, including overseas implants with clinical notes in another language and a patient who found Done In One just days after a surgery she regretted. This is just the introduction — future episodes will go deeper into the mechanics, the process, and the stories behind some of their most complex cases. Ep. 46 – You Asked, Dr. Dan Answered

Dr. Dan, Erica, and Nick are back with another round of real questions from the Done In One Facebook group, and this one covers a lot of ground. They kick things off with the DIO Waiting Room Theory, a topic that has been floating around the office forever and finally gets its moment on the mic. Then it's straight into the questions: high blood pressure on surgery day, why your consultation is designed the way it is and what that says about the experience, sinus lifts and when they are actually necessary, and what patient factors matter most when it comes to swelling and bruising after surgery. The second half gets into the restorative details. Can a zirconia arch shift over time? What is the real relationship between full arch treatment and TMJ? And if an implant fails, what actually happens next? Have more questions? Drop them in the comments, send us an email, or head over to the Done In One Facebook group to submit yours for a future episode. Ep. 45 - Inside the Done In One Lab

In this episode of Beyond the Arches, Dr. Daniel Noorthoek and Erica sit down with Done In One Lab Manager, Donaldo, for a behind-the-scenes look at the lab that helps make the full-arch process possible. This is also the first episode recorded in the brand-new Done In One studio, marking an exciting new chapter for the podcast. Donaldo shares his journey from working overnight in the lab to now managing operations, and what it takes to keep everything running smoothly across multiple locations. The conversation breaks down what actually happens inside the lab—from 3D printing temporaries to milling final zirconia arches—and why communication, consistency, and attention to detail are so critical. They also dive into the philosophy behind the Done In One lab: focusing on doing one thing extremely well, using the right technology, and building a system that allows for efficient turnaround times without sacrificing quality. Along the way, they touch on real challenges, tight timelines, and the behind-the-scenes teamwork that patients don’t always see—but benefit from every step of the way. This one gives patients a clear look at the “other side” of their treatment—and the people making it all happen.🎧 Listen now and go beyond the arches with us!💻 Visit the DIO website for more information: https://getdoneinone.com📩 Email questions or comments: smile@getdoneinone.com☎️ Speak to a Patient Care Coordinator: (561) 468-8812📲 FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA AS WE BUILD OUR COMMUNITY!

  8. Ep. 44 - AI in Full-Arch: What’s Coming

    MAR 24

    Ep. 44 - AI in Full-Arch: What’s Coming

Dr. Daniel Noorthoek is joined by Erica and Nick to break down how AI is already impacting dentistry and where it is headed next. From early trial and error to real use in operations, they share how AI has evolved into a valuable tool for data analysis, projections, reporting, and faster decision-making across the practice. The conversation explores how AI helps streamline behind-the-scenes work like financing insights, patient communication systems, and administrative workflows, allowing teams to spend more time focused on patient experience. They also touch on how AI is already showing up in dentistry in ways patients may not realize, from automated systems to diagnostic tools that support clearer treatment planning. Dr. Dan shares his perspective on why dentistry is both open to rapid innovation and still protected by hand skills, training, and clinical judgment. The group dives into digital design, scanners, 3D printing, and the balance between technology and technique, emphasizing that AI is only as powerful as the person using it. The takeaway is simple. AI will continue to shape the future of dentistry, but it will not replace great clinicians. When used correctly, it enhances efficiency, improves decision-making, and gives teams more time to focus on what matters most: patient care.🎧 Listen now and go beyond the arches with us!💻 Visit the DIO website for more information: https://getdoneinone.com📩 Email questions or comments: smile@getdoneinone.com☎️ Speak to a Patient Care Coordinator: (561) 468-8812📲 FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA AS WE BUILD OUR COMMUNITY!
