    When Opportunity Knocks: A Conversation with Former NFL Player JJ Birden

    #078: In this episode of Beyond the Culture, Dr. Walker speaks with Former NFL player JJ Birden.  JJ. Birden was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 8th round of the 1988 NFL Draft. He played in 9 NFL seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons. Birden played at the University of Oregon. In 2010, Birden was inducted Oregon's Athletic Hall of Fame as Track and Field athlete. Birden travels extensively as a motivational and opportunity speaker and trainer for companies large and small; team building seminars, as well as youth group life skill development meetings. JJ is a best-selling author of When Opportunity Knocks: 8 Surefire Ways to Take Advantage. Birden and his wife Raina have three children and five adopted children.     Challenging Black Culture with Hampton University AD Eugene Marshall

Walker speaks with Eugene Marshall.  Eugene Marshall is the Director of Athletics at Hampton University He’s had an accomplished career of over 37 years as a head coach and Athletics director. Making such notable stops at United States Military Academy (West Point), Iona College and Queens College in New York. Gene is in his eighth year as AD at Hampton U. A graduate of Northeastern University He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. He later completed his master’s degree in sports leadership. While an undergraduate at Northeastern, Gene was a member of the Huskies' men's basketball team under former UConn head coach and Basketball Hall of Famer Jim Calhoun.
