Jesus Never Worried About His Brand. We Can't Stop.

A youth pastor gets asked to step down. Not because he failed. Not because students stopped growing. Because leadership decided he'd aged out. I've had this same conversation multiple times over the last six months. And it's just one symptom of something bigger. The church has started caring more about how things look than how healthy they actually are. In this episode I'm sharing three real stories: a worship pastor hired for optics who felt used from day one, a church that bought me brand name shirts because I gave the wrong image, and the prosperity theology that turns poverty into a spiritual failure. And then we look at the one model that actually works the one Jesus gave us. This is for the leaders who've been discarded because of optics. For the ones who've been doing the hiring and know it. And for every church that's drifted from health into image management without noticing. 📌 TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — Coming Up 0:15 — The Youth Pastor Who Aged Out (Cold Open) 3:02 — Welcome to Beyond the Numbers 3:30 — What Is the Optics Problem? 5:12 — Three Stories 5:15 — Story 1: The Worship Pastor Who Felt Used 7:24 — He Knew Why He Was Really Hired 8:05 — Story 2: The Church That Bought My Clothes 10:11 — Story 3: The Poverty Curse Theology 11:44 — What Optics-Driven Ministry Actually Costs 12:50 — The Model Jesus Actually Used 13:00 — He Healed People and Told Them to Keep It Quiet 14:06 — He Disappeared at His Most Popular 15:18 — He Said Things That Emptied Rooms 16:18 — He Went to the Outcasts Without Caring What It Cost Him 18:24 — Four Ways to Build Something Better 22:21 — For the Leader Who Was Discarded 24:21 — For the Leader Who Did the Discarding 26:00 — The Question to Sit With This Week 🎙️ NEW EPISODES EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 5:30AM 🔔 Subscribe so you don't miss what's coming next 📲 Share this with a pastor or leader who needs it Beyond the Numbers exists to have honest conversations about what healthy churches and healthy leadership actually look like — beyond the attendance figures, beyond the image, beyond what we project on social media. 🎧 Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/735ZeWwHikfPbGixB7slvu?si=6d6574f674a54241 📺 Full Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfQ7y7SaOR7DT0GQUPDkRUhUCYjaXbQVX 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beyondthenumberspc/ 📘 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61577846341303 #BeyondTheNumbers #ChurchLeadership #OpticsOfMinistry #ChurchHealth #MinistryLeader #YouthMinistry #PastorLife #ChristianLeadership #ChurchCulture #HealthyChurch #NextGenMinistry #MinistryLife

  2. Church Leaders: The Real Reason Why Church Scandals Keep Happening

Church Leaders: The Real Reason Why Church Scandals Keep Happening

The church is trending. Not for miracles. Not for lives being changed. For scandals, cover-ups, and corruption. And the question no one is asking is — why does this keep happening? In this episode I'm not pointing fingers at specific people or piling on. I'm asking a harder question: what did we quietly discard that was supposed to protect us from this? The answer is two things. Discernment and integrity. And I think losing both of them is connected to something most of us didn't even notice happening. This episode is for pastors, ministry leaders, church staff, and anyone who loves the church enough to ask the hard questions. ------ 📌 TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — Church, What Is Going On? "We left It All" | Stepping With Faith Into The Unknown

Sometimes the biggest move of God happens when nobody is watching. In this episode of Beyond the Numbers, I sat down with Fernando and Faith to talk about leaving visible ministry, walking through cancer, stepping away from platform culture, and learning what it really means to trust God in the quiet seasons. From running massive youth camps to planting a church in New Mexico with no guarantees, this conversation is raw, honest, emotional, and deeply needed for ministry leaders wrestling with calling, burnout, identity, and faith. If you’ve ever wondered: * “Did God forget me?” * “Why does God keep slowing me down?” * “What if ministry became my identity?” * “How do I know when to step out in faith?” …this episode is for you. Whether you’re a youth pastor, church leadership, volunteer, church planter, or someone simply trying to follow God faithfully, this conversation will challenge and encourage you. --- Time Stamps 00:00 – Coming Up 00:42 – From Big Stages to Church Planting 03:00 – The Diagnosis That Changed Everything 07:17 – When God Says “Not Yet” 09:23 – The Fear of Stepping Out 16:23 – From Platform Ministry to Quiet Ministry 18:45 – When Ministry Becomes Identity 22:13 – Beyond the Numbers 23:34 – Small Wins That Matter Most 27:05 – How to Step Out in Faith 29:10 – Stop Reading the Manual 30:23 – Final Encouragement + New Story Church ---- Connect With Fernando and Faith: Website: https://www.newstorylc.com/ Podcast: https://rss.com/podcasts/the-new-story-podcast/2747688/ --- #BeyondTheNumbers #ChurchPlanting #HealthyMinistry #ChristianPodcast #YouthPastor #FaithJourney #MinistryLeadership #ChurchCulture #SteppingOutInFaith #PastorLife

What If No One Notices? | The Quiet Ministry

One of the most impactful ministry moments I ever had happened in a baseball stadium… and almost nobody knows about it. In a culture obsessed with views, followers, platform growth, and recognition, it’s easy for pastors, youth leaders, and volunteers to believe that ministry only matters when people notice. But what if the moments that change lives the most are the ones no one ever sees? In this episode of Beyond the Numbers, I share some stories from student ministry: -Including a hospital visit at 2:30 AM -A simple baseball game that changed a student’s life -and the hidden moments that shaped his ministry more than any sermon ever could. If you’ve ever felt overlooked, exhausted, or wondered if your work is making a difference, this conversation is for you. Because heaven doesn’t measure ministry by views. It measures it by faithfulness. 👇 Share your own quiet ministry story in the comments. ⸻ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 The Ministry Moment Nobody Saw 00:25 Why Quiet Ministry Matters 02:28 A Baseball Game That Changed Everything 04:43 Ministry Isn’t About Recognition 06:58 The Comparison Trap 07:49 Serving in the Shadows 09:16 The 2:30 AM Hospital Call 12:23 Presence Over Performance 13:04 Jesus and the Woman at the Well 15:45 A Challenge for Every Ministry Leader 16:48 Celebrating Quiet Ministry 18:05 Next Week’s Episode Preview ⸻ Next Week: For our next "Voices From the Field," I’m sitting down with Fernando and Faith. When Goals Might Be The Problem

Most pastors don’t start ministry wanting to build a machine. But somewhere along the way, it’s easy for church leadership to become more about growth, performance, numbers, platforms, and pressure… than actually making disciples. In this conversation with JonMark Baker from the Minor Prophets podcast, we talk honestly about: • Shepherds vs CEOs in the church • When church goals become unhealthy • Why discipleship often gets replaced by performance • The danger of building ministry identity instead of Christ-centered identity • How pastors can check their hearts before burnout or pride takes over This wasn’t a “call-out” conversation, but more of a heart check for all of us. If you’re in ministry, leading volunteers, serving in church, or just wrestling with what healthy leadership actually looks like… this conversation matters. Watch the full episode and let me know what stood out to you most. If you found this helpful, you need to check out JonMark’s work over at the Minor Prophets Podcast. Why This Oklahoma Pastor Chose Kids Ministry as His Calling | Nathan Stang (Unfiltered)

What happens when you stop focusing on the "program" and start focusing on the presence? In last week’s episode, we scratched the surface of how to reach Gen Alpha, but Nathan Stang dropped so much wisdom, practical strategy, and raw heart that I couldn't leave the rest in the vault. Consider this my gift to you: the full, unedited, and unfiltered conversation with Nathan Stang (Kids Ministry Team Lead at First Church Owasso). From building a student leadership pipeline of 45+ kids to the "messy excellence" of letting 5th graders run the soundboard, this talk is a masterclass in shifting from a "CEO" mindset to a "Shepherd" heart. In this unfiltered session, we dive deep into: The Power of Presence: Why showing up for a kid’s "bad days" matters more than a high-budget stage.Empowerment over Entertainment: How to move kids from being spectators to being active ministers. The 10th Grader Rule: Why a service that’s "too polished" for a student to hold a mic might actually be an idol.Life-on-Life Discipleship: Navigating church growth without losing the personal connection.I’m clearing the deck and releasing these "Vault" sessions over the next two weeks for a reason. We are preparing for a massive Season 3 reveal with a pillar of the youth ministry world—a conversation that will change the way you look at leadership. Stay tuned.
