Your Medication Is Only as Safe as the Pharmacy That Made It

This is a conversation I had wanted to record since the day we started the podcast. I sat down with Dan Powell, someone I have known and trusted for more than 15 years, to talk about something almost nobody thinks about: where your medication is actually made. Not all compounding pharmacies are the same, and that difference comes down to safety, sterility, and whether every batch is made the same way every single time. Dan breaks down what the 503A and 503B designations really mean, why the 503B standard was born out of a contamination tragedy that cost dozens of people their lives, and why fewer than 100 pharmacies in the country have cleared that bar. Then we get into the part that fires me up: how many people are buying GLP-1s and peptides online to save a few dollars, with no doctor oversight and no clue where the product came from. That is Russian roulette. My rule has always been safety over shortcuts and quality over cost, and this episode is exactly why. Your health is worth more than the discount. - - - - - Dan Powell has spent more than 15 years in the compounding pharmacy world, and he was working inside a compounding pharmacy when the 503B outsourcing-facility regulations were created, so he did not read about that turning point after the fact, he lived it. He helped steer a pharmacy through its first FDA inspection under current Good Manufacturing Practices, and he now speaks to rooms full of physicians and prescribers about what separates a high-standard pharmacy from a risky one. Dan is also a leadership coach and professional speaker who helps businesses grow and communicate with intention. On Beyond the Scale, he brings the view most patients never get: not the textbook version of pharmacy safety, but the real-world one from inside the lab. - - - - - - Connect with the show and Body by AIM360: Website: https://bodybyaim360.com Podcast: https://bodybyaim360.com/podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bodybyaim360 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bodybyaim360 Book a call: https://calendly.com/bodybyaim360/drtalks - - - - - - PODCAST Thank you for listening. Not All Supplements Are Created Equal: What 'Medical Grade' Really Means

On this episode of Beyond the Scale, Dr. Darren Dubyak sits down with registered dietitian Kristi Belohlavek for a clear, no-hype look at one of the most confusing aisles in health: supplements. With 20-plus years in clinical nutrition and 15 years inside a professional supplement company, Kristi explains what ‘medical grade’ or practitioner-grade actually means, from rigorous testing for identity, purity, and heavy metals to the use of better-absorbed ingredient forms. The conversation gets practical. Why a buffered form of vitamin C can be gentler on your stomach than plain ascorbic acid. Why magnesium glycinate tends to absorb better than magnesium oxide. Why methylfolate matters for people who don't convert folic acid well, especially during pregnancy. They also talk through the supplements people are reading about right now, including creatine, NAD, and berberine, and where each may fit. The throughline is the Beyond the Scale way of doing things: test, don't guess. The point is to help you stop spending money on a stack of products you may not need, and start building a routine that fits your body, confirmed by bloodwork and retested over time. - - - - - About the Guest: Kristi Belohlavek is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian who has practiced integrative nutrition therapy for more than 20 years, with deep experience in clinical nutrition, nutrition education, and dietary supplement research. She spent 15 years inside a professional supplement company working in product development and clinical education, and today serves as a Product Innovation Manager focused on new product development, formulation, and practitioner training. That insider background is exactly why Darren wanted her on the show: when Kristi talks about what happens behind the label, she has seen it firsthand. Peptides Explained: BPC-157, GHK-Cu, and Smarter Recovery

Peptides are getting a lot of attention, but the real question is whether people understand how to use them wisely. In this episode of Beyond the Scale, Dr. Darren Dubyak and Alexandra Dubyak explain peptides in simple terms as short chains of amino acids that act like messengers in the body, then focus on two of the most talked-about options: BPC-157 and GHK-CU. They break down why BPC-157 is known as a body protection compound and why it is often discussed for gut support, tissue repair, inflammation, and recovery. Alexandra also explains GHK-Cu, a naturally occurring copper peptide connected to skin, hair, burns, tissue repair, and cellular rejuvenation. Together, they also emphasize why peptides are trending, why people are taking more control of their health, and why proper sourcing, prescription guidance, and personalization matter. - - - - - About the Hosts: Dr. Darren Dubyak and Alexandra Dubyak are the hosts of Beyond the Scale, a podcast where faith, family, functional wellness, and real-life conversation all come together. Marriage, Medicine, and a Bigger Mission

Sometimes, the most powerful health story is the one behind the people giving the advice. In this opening episode of Beyond the Scale, Dr. Darren Dubyak and Alexandra Dubyak introduce themselves, share how their relationship grew alongside their work, and explain how Body by AIM 360 came to life as an integrative medicine practice outside Pittsburgh. They also reflect on Alexandra’s transition from family medicine into a more holistic, root-cause-based approach to care. Together, they explore why listening matters, why chronic illness often runs deeper than symptoms alone, and how faith, family, fur babies, and functional wellness shape both their life and their practice. - - - - - About the Host: Dr. Darren Dubyak and Alexandra Dubyak are the hosts of Beyond the Scale, a podcast where faith, family, functional wellness, and real-life conversation all come together.
