Ep 17. What do you want to be known for?

You’ve built the skills. You’ve done the training. You became the therapist. But is this it? In this episode of *Beyond the Therapy Room™, Ali and Sky explore what it means to discover what you truly want to be known for — beyond your professional title, your role, or the expectations you’ve inherited. They talk about childhood dreams, creativity, perfectionism, burnout, changing environments, and the importance of noticing what genuinely lights you up. For therapists especially, this episode invites you to look at what you’re already known for by your clients, colleagues, referrers and the people around you — and then go one layer deeper. What is it about the way you show up that makes an impact? And what happens when you realise you're ready to take that part of yourself into a new environment? This is a conversation about identity, impact, growth, and giving yourself permission to become known in a new way. Reflection question: What do you want to be known for — and where do you want that to be known? 🎧 Don't forget to download the free reflection guide linked below this episode. Ep 16. A Job, a Career, a Calling

What’s the difference between a job, a career, and a calling? In this solo episode of Beyond the Therapy Room, we explore the different ways work can show up in our lives—and why we don’t have to expect one job to fulfil our entire purpose. A job can give us income, stability, structure and security. A career can bring growth, mastery and a deeper sense of contribution. And then there’s a calling—a deeper pull towards something that brings meaning, creativity, service and a sense that we’re contributing to something beyond ourselves. But a calling isn’t always a job, and it doesn’t mean everything suddenly becomes easy or that we’re constantly feeling passionate. Sometimes our calling shows up alongside our work. Sometimes it evolves through different seasons of life. And sometimes we only become gradually more aware of what keeps calling us forward. So what keeps drawing your attention? What gives you a sense of aliveness? What keeps breaking your heart? And where are your gifts meeting the needs of others? Maybe purpose isn’t something we have to manufacture. Maybe it’s something we’re learning to listen for. 🎧 Don't forget to download the free reflection guide linked below this episode. Ep. 15: How Do You Naturally Create Impact?

What does impact actually mean to you? In this episode of Beyond the Therapy Room, Sky and Ally explore what it means to create impact beyond the traditional therapy space—and why it doesn't always have to look big, global, or impressive. They unpack the difference between what we do and who we're being, and how our natural energy, presence, authenticity and way of showing up can influence the people around us. They also explore how therapists can begin recognising their own impact by paying attention to the feedback they receive, the things people naturally come to them for, and the ways others respond to their presence. From creating a sense of safety and calm to giving others permission to be more fully themselves, impact can happen in much smaller and more natural ways than we often realise. In this episode, you'll be invited to reflect on: What impact actually means to youThe impact you're already creating every dayThe difference between doing and beingHow your natural energy can influence a roomWhat people naturally seek you out forWhy feedback can reveal the impact you don't always see in yourselfHow your values and purpose connect to the impact you want to createWhy having a strong “why” matters when expanding beyond one-on-one therapy If you've ever wondered how you can reach more people without losing yourself in the process, this conversation offers a different place to start: What if your impact begins simply with being more of who you already are? 🎧 Don't forget to download the free reflection guide linked below this episode. Ep 14: The Parallel Process

What happens when the work you're doing on yourself starts changing the way you show up professionally? In this episode of Beyond the Therapy Room, Sky and Ali explore The Parallel Process — the way our personal growth and professional lives can evolve alongside one another. They talk openly about the ways personal patterns can follow us into our careers and businesses, from being the rescuer or caretaker to struggling with boundaries, over-responsibility, self-doubt and the pressure to get everything “right.” They explore what happens when therapists move beyond the traditional one-on-one therapy room into groups, teaching, leadership and sharing their knowledge more publicly — and how developing greater self-awareness, emotional capacity and self-belief can support that expansion. The conversation also looks at identity, authenticity and the pressure to fit into a particular idea of what a “professional” therapist should look or sound like. What happens when you stop performing professionalism and start trusting your own voice, lived experience and way of doing things? Sky and Ali also reflect on how our vision, purpose and business can change as we change — and how growth can affect the relationships and dynamics around us. Ultimately, this episode is an invitation to pause, tune in and notice what is changing within you, and how that change may already be showing up in your professional life. You don't have to lose yourself to grow. You can let your personal growth inform the work you bring into the world — and become more fully yourself in the process. 🎧 Don't forget to download the free reflection guide linked below this episode. Ep 13: You Don’t Need the Whole Path: Just Take the Next Small Step with Cassandra Dawes

Have you ever had an idea that just wouldn’t leave you alone? For Cass, that idea eventually became her podcast, Mind Your Bean. But taking the leap wasn’t easy. She had doubts, questioned whether people would listen, and wondered whether she was really the right person to do it. In this episode, Cass shares her journey of moving through self-doubt, following her “why,” and taking action even when she didn’t have the whole path figured out. We talk about the power of taking one small step at a time, how action can create clarity and confidence, and why you don’t need to know exactly where you’re going before you begin. Cass also shares one of the biggest things she’s learned from speaking with health experts: our health is interconnected — our brain, heart, metabolism, movement and mental wellbeing all influence one another. If you’ve been sitting on an idea, feeling stuck in analysis paralysis, or waiting until you feel completely ready, this conversation is a reminder that you can start small, learn along the way, and pivot when you need to. You don’t have to have the whole path mapped out. You just need to take the next small step. 🎙️ Connect with Cass: Instagram: @mindyourbeingpodcast Website: mindyourbean.com.au 🎧 Don't forget to download the free reflection guide linked below this episode. Ep 12: Inspiration Calls: Following the Pull to Create Beyond the Therapy Room

What happens when you have an idea that just won’t leave you alone? Maybe you keep thinking about creating a group, building a program, sharing your knowledge online, or exploring a completely different way of supporting people. But then the doubts arrive. Is this actually a good idea? Am I ready? What if it doesn’t work? Should I wait until everything is perfect? In this episode of Beyond the Therapy Room, Sky and Alison talk about what happens when inspiration strikes and you feel pulled towards creating something beyond one-on-one therapy. They explore the importance of capturing those ideas before your inner critic shuts them down, finding the balance between taking action and giving yourself enough time to prepare, and recognising the things you keep feeling drawn towards. Because sometimes that recurring idea, topic or desire might be trying to tell you something. You don’t necessarily need to know exactly where it’s going to lead. Sometimes you just need to make a start. If you’ve been feeling that pull to create something beyond the therapy room, this episode is for you. 🎧 Don't forget to download the free reflection guide linked below this episode. Ep 11: Finding Your Voice and Learning to Communicate Beyond the Therapy Room with Sarah Ruby Leffley

What happens when you step outside the 1:1 therapy room and suddenly have to use your voice in a completely different way? In this episode of Beyond the Therapy Room, Sky is joined by Sarah Leffey, communication educator, law graduate, public speaker, and founder of The Command Method, for an honest conversation about finding your voice, communicating with confidence, and letting go of the pressure to get everything “right.” Sarah shares why highly skilled health professionals can struggle to speak up, particularly when they’re used to observing, listening, analysing, and working within clear professional boundaries. They explore the fear of being misunderstood, judged, or getting into trouble and how the need to be liked or perfect can cause us to overthink, under-express, or lose touch with what we actually want to say. Together, Sky and Sarah explore: Finding your authentic voice beyond the therapy roomWhy highly capable professionals can struggle to communicate with confidenceThe difference between being authentic and oversharingHow identity and conditioning influence the way we communicateCommunicating effectively in different rooms, spaces, and situationsWhy communication is a skill that can be learned and practisedNavigating conflict when you can't predict what will happenHandling feedback, disagreement, and backlash onlineMoving from wanting to be liked to wanting to be respectedAnd why sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is give yourself permission to mess up Sarah also shares practical insights from her work teaching professionals how to communicate under pressure and why learning to pause, think, correct yourself, and keep going can actually strengthen your authority rather than diminish it. If you've ever found yourself holding back, overthinking what to say, or wondering how to show more of yourself outside the therapy room, this conversation is for you.
