Binary System Podcast #502 - Pluribus episode 4

This episode originally broadcast on April 16, 2026. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2026/04/binary-system-podcast-502-pluribus-episode-4/ This week Pluribus continues to break our hearts while also expanding on the impossible situation Carol finds herself in. There are some hard choices made and quite a lot of betrayal (although does it count as betrayal if you’re trying to fix the entire human race? And who exactly gets to make the choice about whether or not someone needs to be fixed?) Mostly Carol learns just how careful you have to be when asking for the whole entire truth from someone who can’t lie. And of course we have to talk a bit about the Artemis II mission and how freaking magical it is to have the entire world cheering when four astronauts come back from six minutes of radio silence and splash down safely. This episode’s outro is a clip from Lite Flight by TeknoAXE. It can be really easy to slip into doom and despair at the state of the world right now, but there are things you can do to help. The situation in Minnesota isn’t in the news as much but they’re still suffering, check out Stand With Minnesota for links to fundraisers and other ways you can show your support. If we haven’t made it abundantly clear where we stand on this, F**K ICE. Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Want to buy them (or yourself) a square foot of a castle in Scotland? Look no further! You can support the restoration of Dunan’s castle, legally call yourself Lady or Laird, AND if you use this link to get there, you can support this podcast too! ScottishLaird.co.uk. Binary System Podcast #501 – WTNV #285 “April Fools”, Beastars, and The Amazing Digital Circus

This episode originally broadcast on April 9, 2026. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2026/04/binary-system-podcast-501-wtnv-285-april-fools-beastars-and-the-amazing-digital-circus/ On this week’s Night Vale recap we spend a lot of time wondering why April Fools has to be so freaking MEAN. Scaring people, embarrassing people, setting up entire fake Arborist Day Parades with floats and hundreds of attendees…okay that last one is just Cecil BUT STILL. After that we recap another episode of Beastars, with a scene that, well, if it’s not the most explicit sexy-times scene of the series, it’s definitely in the top three. We also discuss the whole futility of having a society of carnivores living with herbavores if the carnivores can’t stop eating people. Any time you think it might work, just remember that scene with the dead rabbits, wow. Then Kathryn recaps a little of the first couple episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus, and yes Jax steals every scene he’s in. This episode’s outro is a clip from Amuse by Pamela Yuen. This is the clip with Jax’s secret fear of corn. It can be really easy to slip into doom and despair at the state of the world right now, but there are things you can do to help. Check out Stand With Minnesota for links to fundraisers and other ways you can show your support. If we haven’t made it abundantly clear where we stand on this, F**K ICE. Binary System Podcast #500 – Still No Plan!

This episode originally broadcast on April 2, 2026. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2026/04/binary-system-podcast-500-still-no-plan/ We never actually pictured getting here, but Binary System Podcast has recorded five hundred episodes! (More or less. Minus some text-only episodes. And of course we had quite a few Welcome To Night Vale recap episodes before we started calling ourselves Binary System…look, it’s too complicated to get into, and we’d really rather celebrate and drink beer.) Believe it or not we really did have a plan for the 500th episode, but it was a plan to make a plan, if that makes sense. First we had to recap episode 14 of the last season of Beastars, and Elizabeth wanted to talk about her experiences with WonderCon (The good: Artist’s Alley and all the wonderful cosplay. The bad: slightly sparse attendance and a stupidly long line to pick up badges.) Then, since we couldn’t celebrate our 500th episode in Manhattan, we decided to spend the episode planning for it! Or at the very least come up with a list of possible things to do while we’re there: geeky stuff, artistic stuff, weird stuff, or the out and out touristy stuff. Listen in as we discuss botanical gardens, board game bars, street art (literally), and a variety of museums, with a slight digression on what exactly counts as “ethically sourced” dead animals. This week’s outro is a clip from Submarine Dance by TeknoAXE. Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Want to buy them (or yourself) a square foot of a castle in Scotland? Binary System Podcast #499 – Pluribus episode 3

This episode originally broadcast on March 26, the original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2026/03/binary-system-podcast-499-pluribus-episode-3/ On this week’s Pluribus recap, episode three starts with Carol stuck in the memory of one more time when she didn’t try harder to make Helen happy. (For the record, Carol, we get it, we don’t like being cold either, but OH MY GOD that ice hotel looks SO COOL.) (Pun not intended.) From there, we get to see all the ways the Hive Mind tries to cheer Carol up and it never stops being wonderfully creepy. They’ll give her anything she wants. Literally. Well, except for Helen, or promising not to turn her into a Hive Mind Worker Bee. Otherwise, the sky’s the limit. After that we touch on the passing of Sam Keith, the creator of the Maxx, and we reminisce about Liquid Television and how we wish we could watch some of it without the weird editing choices YES, Paramount, we’re looking at YOU. This episode’s outro is a clip from Burnt Circuit by Karl Casey @ White Bat Audio. Don’t forget to check out Hugh’s photo galleries from MegaCon! It can be really easy to slip into doom and despair at the state of the world right now, but there are things you can do to help. The situation in Minnesota isn’t in the news as much but they’re still suffering, check out Stand With Minnesota for links to fundraisers and other ways you can show your support. Binary System Podcast #498 - WTNV #284 "Harrison Kip's Twilight Gospel Hour"

This episode originally broadcast on March 19, the original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2026/03/binary-system-podcast-498-wtnv-284-harrison-kips-twilight-gospel-hour/ Cecil and Night Vale Radio both get a break this week (aside from a couple of Station ID's and a long list of "supporters"). Instead, we hear the soothing tones of Harrison Kip as he gives the listeners a little taste of his weird religion with a not-really-well-defined god, and some oddly specific commandments. (Look, I'll go along with the "no forks" rule, since chopsticks are still a thing, but I'll give up my mason jars repurposed into drinking glasses when hell freezes over.) After the recap we reveal the surprising news that Beastars is back! (Well, it was surprising to us anyway. Don't look to this podcast for breaking news because we're way behind the curve.) We also talk a little about the results of this year's Oscar winners, some weirdness from the Comic-Con administration, and how our taste in classic anime can be summed up as "whatever was available to rent at Blockbuster Video in the 90's." This episode's outro is a clip from Spiral Flight by TeknoAXE. Correction: the day before this podcast aired we FINALLY got word from Comic-Con that we're approved for WonderCon passes. Nothing like waiting till the week before the convention to find out, wow. It can be really easy to slip into doom and despair at the state of the world right now, but there are things you can do to help. Binary System Podcast #497 - Pluribus episodes 1 and 2

This episode originally broadcast on March 12, 2026. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2026/03/binary-system-podcast-497-pluribus-episodes-1-and-2/ Friend of the Podcast Hannah has been after us for a bit to give Pluribus a shot and after watching the first two episodes WE DEFINITELY GET THE APPEAL. This show is not at all what we expected, and keeps surprising us at every turn. And Rhea Seehorn is one of very few people who can take a character who is so thoroughly unhappy and abrasive and just break our hearts and make us want to do anything to give her her best life. Giant spoiler warnings since we're recapping the first two episodes from beginning to end, and ask a ton of questions like: what happens in the hive mind when the abused has to share memories with the abuser? What's art going to look like? What's procreation going to look like? And how the hell did that one Lyft driver stay employed with a DUI oh wait sorry that's just something from Elizabeth's vacation in Arizona BUT SERIOUSLY WHAT THE HELL. This episode's outro is a clip from Prelude by Grumplefunk. You can read Elizabeth's review of The Deviant here. Short version: she liked everything but the ending. It can be really easy to slip into doom and despair at the state of the world right now, but there are things you can do to help. The situation in Minnesota isn't in the news as much but they're still suffering, check out Stand With Minnesota for links to fundraisers and other ways you can show your support. Binary System Podcast #496 - WTNV #283 "Work From Home"

This episode originally broadcast on March 5, 2026. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2026/03/binary-system-podcast-496-wtnv-283-work-from-home/ A sandstorm in Night Vale means low visibility, accidental mudslides, and murderous doppelgängers roaming the streets. But it also means Cecil and Carlos can work from home today and spend time teaching their adorable spell-casting son how to not tamper with the laws of nature. (No, Esteban, stop it, the avocado tree is already too big for the house…) Once Cecil finishes sharing his theories about the murder of Marcus Vanston (“All right, Night Vale Community College, where were you on the night of November 1st, 2025?!”), Elizabeth talks about Bryan Fuller’s Dust Bunny, a movie which she liked a lot, even more so after she figured out what tone they were going for. And Kathryn finally watched the first episode of Pluribus, and she’s instantly intrigued. (Kathryn’s note: Okay, about the sound quality this week. Mistakes were made, tempers were lost, some things were said that can’t be taken back. We’ve had a very productive discussion, and I think my and GarageBand’s relationship is going to be even stronger going forward. I promise to be a little kinder when airing my complaints about the sound quality, and GarageBand is going to refrain from cutting off the end of my recording or I’ll THROW IT IN THE BIN.) This episode’s outro is a clip from Right In the Crossfire by TeknoAXE. It can be really easy to slip into doom and despair at the state of the world right now, but there are things you can do to help. Binary System Podcast #495 – KPop Demon Hunters, and everything we’re not watching

This episode originally broadcast on February 26, 2026. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2026/02/binary-system-podcast-495-kpop-demon-hunters-and-everything-were-not-watching/https://pixelatedgeek.com/2026/02/binary-system-podcast-495-kpop-demon-hunters-and-everything-were-not-watching/ Wonder of all wonders, we actually watched what we said we were going to watch, and before the Oscars too! KPop Demon Hunters is gorgeous, funny, and powerful, and almost definitely aimed at an audience much much younger than us. We still got a kick out of it. (Derpy Cat and the Magpie are the best!) But what with the Olympics dominating the airwaves (which we haven’t been watching) there wasn’t a lot of nerd news this week, so it was a perfect time to catch up with the Oscar Nominations. Which we also didn’t watch. It’s gotta be the state of (**waves hands at EVERYTHING**) but our motivation to watch anything new is non-existent. We’d rather watch Angel Heart and Hannibal for the umpteenth time, or Red Letter Media‘s coverage of the slasher films THAT WE’RE ALSO NOT WATCHING. This episode’s outro is a clip from Obsidian by JMHBM (formerly Beat Mekanik). It can be really easy to slip into doom and despair at the state of the world right now, but there are things you can do to help. Check out Stand With Minnesota for links to fundraisers and other ways you can show your support. If we haven’t made it abundantly clear where we stand on this, F**K ICE.
