Writing television is easy! To prove it, we sit down and brainstorm a concept for a new TV show in every episode of Blank Meets Blank. From two random hat drawings we plot a pilot, a first season and even throw in a fantasy cast for good measure. It's a fun, ridiculous writing exercise that will, of course, propel us to Hollywood fame in no time. Blank Meets Blank is back with a new episode – this time we combined Lord of the Rings with the concept of “red pilling” to create a fantasy epic where humans are unknowingly subjugated by their wise elven leaders.

    Pepsi County – “8 Mile” Meets “PepsiCo”

    Continuing our efforts to create a new TV show every episode (which are now released monthly by the way) we draw the random prompts “8 Mile” and “PepsiCo”, the company that owns Pepsi, out of a hat, and mash them together into a concept for an animated show about rapping soda cans.

    Gone To The Dogs – “Westworld” Meets “Communism”

    After a long break we can welcome you back to Blank Meets Blank where writing is easy and ideas are cheap! On this podcast we make up a new TV show every episode, starting with two random prompts from a hat and brainstorming our way to a pitch and a pilot. This time we drew “Westworld” and “Communism” and struggled to mash them together until we ended up with a simple story about a robot and a dog. A city of oil and metal gleams in the desert. Aristocratic analyst A.I.s rule with corrupted logic centres, directing the robot population. Humans are barely a memory. Deep under the gleaming metal spires, mining robot KRL makes an unusual find; a frozen creature. Not only is this pup the last of its kind, it’s also straight-up adorable!

    Not The End of the World – Aladdin Meets Ragnarök, The Winter of Worlds

    Three nerds play a pen-and-paper RPG and find themselves transported to a ruined Viking world. By day they attend high school; by night they travel to Asgard and play ancient gods. But when people start disappearing in real life they have to ask… Who else is playing – and what is their end game? Not The End of The World is a supernatural drama combining Aladdin with Ragnarök (the end of the world in Norse mythology), with a dash of Jumanji and The Neverending Story thrown in for good measure. Hear all about it in episode 5 of Blank Meets Blank! We’re about to take our mid-season hiatus so this will be the last Blank Meets Blank for a bit.     Chime Attack Adventure – Saved by the Bell Meets Crunchyroll

    The bell has not chimed for 100 years, not until an unlikely group of high school students climb the clock tower. Now the spirits engraved on the bell are loose and it’s up to those students to put them back – with the help of Chime, the boy from the past who trapped them last time. Animation is easy and waifus are cheap! Time to make an anime in episode 4 of Blank Meets Blank. We pull classic children’s sitcom Saved by the Bell and combine it with Crunchyroll, the anime streaming service – allowing us to pick and choose anime tropes at our leisure. We end up with a slice of life high school adventure comedy called Chime Attack Adventure!     Founding Fathers – The Brady Bunch Meets The American Dream

    A newly married gay couple inherit a theme park based on the American revolution and, through classic family values, turn it from the brink of ruin to dream come true. It had to happen sooner or later. In episode three of Blank Meets Blank we pull a TV-show that neither of us have seen. To make it worse, we have to figure out how to combine it with the concept of the American dream, something already integral to classic US sitcoms. What do we do? Panic. Talk about cowboys.     Dunaway Daughters – Gilmore Girls Meets Clickbait

    Time to brainstorm another TV show in 60 minutes! This time we pull dramedy classic Gilmore Girls by Amy-Sherman Palladino and have to somehow combine it with… the concept of clickbait? The resulting show becomes a heartwarming drama about a cross-generational family vlog! How do we get there? Listen to find out. Big thanks for the great response to our pilot!     Modern Times – Die Hard Meets Fake News

    NEW PODCAST ALERT! In Blank Meets Blank we invent a new TV show every episode, starting with two random hat drawings and ending with a pilot, a first season summary and a fantasy cast. This is something we’ve been working on behind the scenes for a while (eagle-eared listeners will note references in this pilot to cement this fact) and we’re really glad to finally share the first episode!
