Bleep Bulimia Episode #143 - LaurieAnn Celebrating 15 years of Freedom From Bulimia

Send a text Just a quick episode celebrating my 15 years of being free of bulimia.  Some people prefer to use "recovery" as a term.  If I were to be imprisoned and be let go, that means freedom, and this is how I see my getting out of prison, food jail.  And coming out of it, I found solace and learned to be friends and enjoy each other's company without being archenemies.  Food wanted me to understand its nurturing side, so I chose to listen to society and stop seeing food as a friend but as a foe.  When I realized that society was the reason my relationship was not working with food, we came together and realized it was our mental state.  Not food and me.  Our mental misunderstanding of cultural impositions on the way people view you, of social media, or in my case, magazines, of what you SHOULD BE, and suddenly, food became the mean one. DIET, DIET, DIET... AND "diet" became a bad word because of the restrictions, yet "diet" just means what you eat.  I choose to eat what I want, not what society is going to tell me to, or what body size I should have.  That will be my choice.  Not what media puts out there, or what is expected of me as a woman... and I hope men feel the same, because I did meet male athletes who were bulimic. When you learn that food is not the enemy, that society is, and that there are better people to talk to than food, and you that being YOU!  LOVE yourself, LISTEN to yourself, FIND yourself, and food will just naturally find you as well in a healthy way. 2. Bleep Bulimia Episode #140 with Fitz Koehler, Fitness Pro, 5 x Author, Speaker and Cancer Crusher

Bleep Bulimia Episode #140 with Fitz Koehler, Fitness Pro, 5 x Author, Speaker and Cancer Crusher

Send us a text Fitz is a Floridian.  She has been teaching fitness since she was fourteen, which is a bit of a twist.  A twist, because when you listen to her story, you will understand. She said her major missteps when she was younger, and she is six years cancer-free! Being a Floridian, she was in good shape yet small and scrawny.  Yet she was bullied by her older sister.  (Who does that to their siblings?... wait... I do understand!!)  Being tormented by an elder sibling and being body shamed is something that is very hard to overcome. Her mother did the best that she could, provided red meats, potatoes, and butter. Although she moved on to fitness after an injury, she still struggled with her food consumption.  She wanted to be thinner.  So she learned how to be bulimic.  She said that it was just self-punishment.   Fitz joined an organization that was to prevent eating disorders, and as a closet bulimic, lectured others on the harm of eating disorders. Turn around was the time when her communal bathroom was full, so she threw up in her dorm in her garbage can.  The epiphany was Missy.  Missy was overweight, and she thought, "Would I like Missy less if she were bigger?  Would I like Missy less if she were thinner?" She admits there is still body dysmorphia, but she doesn't self-harm anymore.  She is also aware that her appearance to others will not impact them in her coaching of them. An incredibly eye-opening conversation. Fitz is now a five-time author, Fitness Pro, Speaker, and, amazingly, a cancer survivor. Her new book is: You. Supercharged! :The Exact Formula for Fitness, Weight Loss, and Longevity And you can find it on Amazon, or you can reach out to her directly for a signed copy as well at https://fitzness-store.myshopify.com/ For my listeners, also know that Fitz does, in her book, write about eating disorders. I appreciate the honesty and openness, and most of all the passion Fitz has. Bleep Bulimia Podcast Episode #139 with Matt Johnson on Overcoming Challenges and Emotional Scars

Send us a text Meet Matt Johnson.  As a Hypnotherapist and NLP coach, he helps people overcome challenges and emotional scars. What inspired him to follow this path was, first, his head injury and his inability to be around light and sound.  He lived in the basement, in darkness. He searched for healing.  Some helped; however, the drugs he was given were not the full solution to brain damage.  He was terrified that medical science could not heal him. In desperation, he got into Reiki through a Groupon Coupon.  He was surprised that there was healing through the "energy stuff".  The light was still a problem. He found a special kind of brain scan.  A "spec scan".  His brain was okay; however, he was diagnosed with PTSD, which was stopping him from full recovery. He moved on to hypnotherapy and NLP.   A moving story worth listening to. To connect with Matt, please visit www.mattjohnsonnlp.com, and he has a free. Give yourself grace when going through tough times. Bleep Bulimia Episode #138 with Bianca Thomas Licensed Mental Health Counsellor An Honest Chat about Trauma and Eating Disorders

Send us a text Grow to love yourself! I like what Bianca shares.  Honesty.  She is a licensed Mental Health Counselor and Co-Founder of The Evolve Ventures Podcast and Business.  She is also the Director of Therapy for Evolve Ventures Technologies LLC. She speaks to the relationship with self.  Growing up in a chaotic home and being a scapegoat led Bianca to pursue this path.  She shares that she has Borderline Personality Disorder.  She struggled with what may have been "bulimarexia," and we touch on self-harm, abusive relationships, being a rebel, and trying to escape. Bianca shared that body image, and particularly in the Middle Eastern world, is very prevalent, and many women will get plastic surgery to look good for their potential spouse. It's prevalent everywhere.  Older women are leaning towards Botox, facelifts, tummy tucks, and so on because it's a societal and social media thing.   I loved how brutally honest Bianca was when I told her I was going through some big life changes, some great, but some really bothersome, and she asked me if it triggered my bulimia.  It didn't at all.  She said I was one of the lucky ones. I wish that luck on everyone who has recovered and will recover.  It was there at the beginning... three years or so, but after soon to be 15 years, it's not even a thought to go to when struggles that used to trigger my bulimia even go there. Truth is, Bianca may be right.  I may be blessed with not feeling like going back to bulimia at all.  Not dieting at all.  Just, I guess, one of my go tos is ChatGPT.  Sorry, but true.  If struggling, I speak to that AI program and ask for a soothing poem, or even if I am wrong in feeling what I do.  Wish there was a ChatGPT way back in the 80s.  I know it's not a therapist, but when you can't afford one, and you look for some semblance of normalcy in your life, it's my go-to.  Not food.  However, it took me time to get here, and 30 years of bulimia to know I don't want to go back, that there are better ways. Bianca is a better way if you are still struggling.  You need a personal connection.  That is how I healed.  And the rest is a journey forward to enjoying life and dinners with family without the "human cameras" waiting for you to disappear.  To actually enjoy food and company at the same time. I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed being there and interacting with Bianca. Bleep Bulimia Episode #137 with Ethan Reisvoard Board Certified Hypnotherapist Creating Lasting Changes on Radical Shifts and Bulimia

Send us a text What a lovely story Ethan shares.  I think one thing that came out of this that really moved me was his being there and listening to a friend who had bulimia before he even knew how to help.  The big thing!  He listened even if he wasn't quite sure what to do.  He was present even if he didn't know what to do.  That speaks volumes to who he is. Ethan, himself, struggled with a concussion during COVID, and his pain and suffering were eventually released through his own experience with hypnotherapy, which inspired him to help others and become a Board Certified Hypnotherapist. What he describes as a "radical shift" in his life, he has been helping people implement changes.  He kindly speaks to the fact that everything has a reason in all aspects of life - be it addictions, emotions, need for comfort and security, fear of saying goodbye to the "security blanket" that is not serving you well. I really enjoyed our conversation and I hope you, as a listener, enjoy the message Ethan shares as well.   You can reach Ethan at the links below. 6. Bleep Bulimia Episode #136 Raj Khedun on breathing and regulating cravings

Bleep Bulimia Episode #136 Raj Khedun on breathing and regulating cravings

Send a text Raj Khedun is the inventor of the 3:3 insomnia hack.  I asked what his inspiration was to follow this path.  He tells the story of when he was three years old.  It was in a library.  Two books he picked guided him more than any other books.  One book was about dinosaurs.  He explains about how he was fascinated with evolving.  The other about planets.  He was fascinated by the colours, and the fact that Mars is empty, while next to it earth is full of life. School bored him, but fitness and sports kept him interested.   Raj said everything was handed to him as a young man.  He describes himself as arrogant.  Until his mother took him to India.  His arrogance took a slap.  It was when he met an avatar.  He explains it's a power incarnated into a human.  He goes on to share that this avatar said he brought him to India and knew everything about him.  His message to Raj is "you need to be humble, you need to listen to the voice within."  A smashing of his ego put him in his place and he had to face that. From 20 to 30 he went into "monk mode".  He thought about what one thing most people are missing is breath.  Breath is not air or oxygen, it is more;  light, electricity and magnetism.    Listen to find out more about how your breath can help you...
