God Says...YOU ARE: Affirmations in Scripture

There's a lot of talk about "the power of positive thinking" and "positive affirmations to produce manifestations." How should the Christian approach this school of thought? Truth is the routine of positive thinking is undoubtedly essential to a worry-free, victorious, fulfilling life; however, the belief that all that is good flowing in and out of your existence, that ultimately these manifestations are the sole product of one's own self power is the pitfall that Christians should avoid. Yes, negative thinking, and self-sabotaging are thought patterns we should avoid and steering our mind towards more edifying proclamations can assist us in renewing our minds daily. It is imperative that we, as God's children remember that it is Christ in us that affirms us and not we ourselves. We should feel freedom because of our dependance on God and not in our abilities. The Bible is full of truthful testaments of faith that can assist us in changing our thoughts and allowing the Holy Spirit to work within us. Bottomline: we should trust that God wants the best for us just as we wish for ourselves; that His Holy Word is already full of truthful affirmations that we can proclaim as promises over our lives, and that our very identities and self-talk should align with how He views us.  I pray that these scriptures will help you to abstain from negative thinking and that they will instead guide you to how God views you. Remember this is not within self but all for the glory and edification of God. These affirmations are followed by a corresponding scripture. By no means are these the only passages. Accept the challenge of finding more scriptures in your own study/meditation allowing the Holy Spirit to give you personal revelations and affirmations. Each statement should be a reminder of God's promises over your life, reflected in the written second person point of view and usage of the pronoun "you."  Notice how breaking the strongholds of negative thinking; thereby choosing instead to stand on biblical principle may change your personal view of yourself and those around you.  Focus Scriptures: It shall be done for you as you have believed. - Matthew 8:13                             For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.- Proverbs 23:7

4pg. Letter of Lament: A Meditation on Grief

Holidays, Celebrations, special occasions, even a simple change in life, sometimes brings with them heartache and trouble. Especially after an unprecedented year full of uncertainty and loss, what happens when you are stricken with grief? Lament, or the act of mourning is described as a state of passionate grief or sorrow. So the question is; should Christians lament? Is it possible to feel heaviness of heart, question an unjust or challenging situation or occurrence and still believe? Once again, the Bible is full of people, just like modern-day who struggled with the inevitability that this life will bring trouble and adversity, death, sickness, tragedy. David, gives us numerous examples of lament in the Psalms, as he provides the perplexities of being a "man after God's own heart," yet still feeling grievances. Biblical studies have broken down the "formula" of lamenting, but truly dealing with grief is a matter of the spirit. I would say that the clues left by those divinely inspired by God to write His Holy Word, will assure us, that questions, sorrow, grief, does not make us any less followers of Christ, only that we need bring our lament to Him and entrust our emotions to Him.  And since grief may present itself in many forms: - Loss of identity, safety autonomy, dreams and expectations  -possessions, and yes even more tragically loss of life  It is a harsh reality of the human construct that no one is immune to experiencing grief in this life.  So here is a mediation for the heavy and grieving heart, it is my prayer that these scriptures will give you comfort and hope in the present season of sorrow, you or someone near you may be facing. Just know that we love a Lord that is present in our suffering and is faithful to walk alongside us and will bring us through.
