Koalacity ,

Wow, a truly original podcast / experience

Other reviewers have captured the true kind spirit and generosity of this podcast. It is palpable. I want to give a shoutout in addition to the incredible sound design and editing of this podcast. I long ago worked as a public radio engineer (just before the podcast gold rush) and most of the time now as a listener I’m turned off by the low production value of most, and especially two host, podcasts. Yam and Jessi have a wonderful rapport and yet it still feels like we are present as listeners rather than eavesdropping (see the dynamics of most two host podcasts where there is banter but it is not conscious of the listener presence as human).

This podcast is clear, beautiful, charming, and using sound design in a thoughtful and playful way, like the early days of Radiolab before the sound design on that show seemed to take over the content. TBH this is the podcast I want public radio makers to hear — they have a lot to learn from you Yam about the way to be present and playful without being overbearing with flourishes. My favorite was a guest talking about singing while doing the dishes and there was a short and sweet cut to yam doing dishes and hum singing. This is the embodiment of documentary making adage show don’t tell, or in this case, sing, don’t tell! Thank you. ✨
