Blood Debts

Blood debt is a a must listen, the way Leezel weaves the narrative is fantastic. And finally hearing others like me out there has been an incredible enlightening experience, and something we need. Leezel is making seen stories by a group of people that is often underlooked but applies to everyone! Her work and this podcast is making an impact and will continue to make an impact.

Hearing the stories of each individual how debt directly affected their lives and their own understanding of debt was powerful. Being a first generation born in America from parents that took the leap of faith to leave the Philippines and struggled to create a new life in a foreign county, I can relate to each story in some very personal way. Blood debt is a taboo topic in our culture that needs to be more openly discussed so that we can decidedly create more positive outcomes from our strong sense of family and community and avoid the pitfalls that often lead to resentment and regret. Leezel and the storytellers of the podcast do an amazing job spearheading the need to demystify the ideas around blood debt. I’m hopeful this will lead to much needed discussions so we can better understand our culture, ourselves, and each other for the betterment of all.

Fantastic podcast, a deep and nuanced concept wonderfully realized. Ms. Tanglao is a talent to keep an eye — and ear — on.
