I thought I would reward myself by leaving a review for THE podcast that activated and still enables my board game “problem.”
You’ve probably seen a lot of the same things in most podcast reviews, and I’ll upvote them all: great production, consistent release, awesome hosts. So I’ll tell you why I listen to it.
I listen to it for three primary reasons. First, I love the episodes that anthologize many of the hosts’ favorite games because they help me discover at least one new game every single time. As a bonus, I collect their hard-thought takeaways and pass them off as my own original insights to my board game group. I’ve been in the hobby two years. I own seven games. They think I’m a damned board game genius.
Second, when I find something I like, there is a two-hundred and fifty episode (plus) archive of deeper dives that focus on one single game spanning almost six years. (and when I don’t like the game, they’ve got me covered with their ‘on the table this week’ segment which covers a grab bag of other titles)
Third, as I’ve gotten to know the hosts’ experiences, I love how my time-skipping weaves only the best storylines together. There’s nothing like hearing how disappointed Chris is with Lords of Ragnarok, then, in the same listening session, time traveling back to learn about Spirit Island a year earlier, and hearing how EXCITED Chris is to try Lords of Ragnarok.
Sorry future Chris, it’s all going up in flames.
This episode deserves the Golden Geek award that it will soon win, and I couldn’t be happier listening to it. When I broke both arms in 2024 and had to pick up a board game habit, BGHT was there waiting for me. Can’t wait for the next one, and I appreciate you guys.
