Episode 10.0: Suicide is a Tough Topic. But Let’s Talk About It.

Youth suicide isn’t easy to talk about, but nothing good ever comes of silence. This week, we have special guest Marcie Timmerman, the Executive Director of Mental Health America of Kentucky, to chat about what’s causing high rates of suicide, what protective factors can help, and what we can do as a community to address the issue. There are several resources we reference throughout the episode, which are linked below.

    Episode 7.0: Decompress That Stress!

    Episode 7.0: Decompress That Stress!

Stress serves a natural biological purpose—way back when, it was our stress response that helped us survive when we stumbled upon a lion, got into a fight, or were chasing after our dinner. Stress can sometimes help us now, too—remember how fast you worked last time you started an essay an hour before it was due?

However, chronic, never ending stress is becoming more and more common, with significant consequences on mental and physical health. We chat about what we can do about it in today’s episode. Remember that this isn’t a comprehensive review, and we encourage you to do more research! Our sources are below:

Vital Work Being Done

This podcast, and StAMINA in particular, is advancing the discussion of what needs to be done to help those struggling with mental health issues. It is empowering students to have a voice and help shape how mental illness is viewed and treated. Great job!!!

Informative and chill

I love hearing teenagers my age talking about mental health. This podcast is eye opening to how there's so much more to mental health than what people openly talk about. It's so put together for teenagers and the hosts are chill and knowledgeable. Would recomend to anyone even slightly interested in learning about mental health.
