Breaking Character explores disability representation through the eyes of six performers with disabilities trying to make it onto the screen, stage, comedy club circuit, and runway.

    Plan B or Not Plan B

    In the premiere, three performers with disabilities enter the casting room to introduce themselves: Alexia, the first Little Person to graduate from her theatre program; Dan, a comedian who is partially sighted; and actor/bartender Caeden.

    Killing the Dream?

    Caeden, an actor/bartender who is a member of the Deaf and hard of hearing community, gets a job offer. Meanwhile, Catherine co-produces and stars in a film based on her experience, and Tai, who is a wheelchair user, mentors a young actress for her first leading role.

    Northern Stars

    While Rachel, a model/musician/activist living with a connective tissue disorder, waits out the pandemic in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Alexia starts apartment hunting in the heart of Toronto. Meanwhile, Tai questions the accessibility barriers that impede his independence.

    Tai's mom encourages him to start taking responsibility to prepare for life after high school. Meanwhile, Dan overcomes his dislike of virtual open mics while visiting his childhood home.
