    The 70 Translations of the Torah

    This class is based on Likutey Moharan Lesson 2, Part 2: In Parshat Ki Tavo, Am Yisrael is commanded to write the Torah on the stones of Har Eival in seventy languages. The seventy languages correspond to the seventy nations and the different places into which holy sparks can fall, teaching that the truth of Torah can reach even the most distant spiritual environments without losing its essence. Rebbe Nachman teaches that when a person is connected to emet (truth), that truth shines through his Torah, prayer and speech and can awaken others wherever they are. Significantly, the Torah first says “v’samachta lifnei Hashem Elokecha”—rejoice before Hashem—because simcha and gratitude are the pathway through which a person receives truth. Through joyful, truthful Torah, even the sparks trapped within the seventy nations can be awakened and brought back to Hashem.     The 5 Connected Mitzvot

    This class is based on Likutey Moharan Lesson 24: In Parshat Ki Tetze, five consecutive mitzvot form a spiritual progression: shiluach haken (sending away the mother bird), ma’akeh (building a protective fence), kilay ha-kerem (forbidden mixtures in a vineyard), the prohibition against plowing with an ox and donkey together and Tzitzit. Rebbe Nachman teaches that mitzvot performed with simcha (joy) extract holiness trapped in the forces of impurity, creating spiritual momentum, bringing blessing, elevating the intellect and ultimately opening the way to the Keter and Hashem’s Infinite Light. Each of these five mitzvot corresponds to one stage of that ascent, culminating in Tzitzit, the garment through which a Jew can connect to the Infinite Light.     Not Waiting For Hashem's Blessing

    This class is based on Likutey Moharan lesson 24 The reason why Yaakov was so adamant and determined to receive the blessing from Eisav's angel there and then and not wait for Yaakov to receive the blessing directly from Hashem at Beit El (where the angel of Eisav would also be there and consent to the blessing) is that Yaakov wanted to transform the angel himself from sadness and melancholy into joy and delight so that there would always be an opening for Yaakov's descendants - especially before the end of days - so that we too can always find an opening to turn sadness into joy in the merit of Yaakov and all the tzaddikim who parallel and emulate Yaakov too.     Running After the Best

    In Parshat Shoftim, the Torah commands “Tzedek tzedek tirdof” (justice, justice shall you pursue), which Rashi explains as a requirement to seek out the finest judges. On a deeper level, this points to pursuing the highest caliber of Tzaddikim—those who can guide a Jew both when he is advancing and when he is being pushed back by setbacks. Eretz Yisrael is uniquely connected to Hashem’s Infinite Light, but receiving that light requires the ability to survive both spiritual ascent and retreat without giving up. The double “tzedek” represents these two movements, while “tirdof” teaches that true guidance must be actively sought out. With humility and the guidance of Tzaddikim who can give life and encouragement in every state, a person can become a vessel for the holiness of Eretz Yisrael.     Evil Blesses You to Turn Sadness into Joy

    Based on Likutey Moharan lesson 24 Reb Noson finalizes the idea of the Yaakov forcing the evil angel of Eisav to blessing as forcing the concept of turning sadness and melancholy into joy to actually work whenever needed to be activated in life.     The Joy in Ritual Slaughter

    This class is based on Likutey Moharan Lesson 24: The Torah alludes to the detailed laws of Shechitah (ritual slaughter), transmitted orally to Moshe Rabbeinu at Har Sinai. Because kosher meat contains trapped holy sparks, it is especially suited to times of mitzvah and simcha (joy), when a person can participate in their elevation. The five principal laws of Shechitah hint to five pathways toward joy: maintaining momentum through music and movement, breaking excessive seriousness with lightheartedness, revealing the joy of the future, finding good points within one’s present situation and giving thanks without trying to force life. The connection between basar (meat) and besorah (good tidings) teaches that these forms of simcha prepare a person to receive the ultimate good news—the coming of Mashiach—with the proper spiritual vessels.     Forcing Evil to Become Our Joy

    The reason why Yaakov forced and detained the angel so that he should bless Yaakov and his descendants was so that the power of the Jews MItzvot performance with joy should also successfully elevate all lost holy sparks from the Chamber of Exchanges without even having to go there.
