    Episode Five: The Scottish Kiss of Death

    We're going to the UK! Literally and figuratively. The episode centers on the tragic tale of Helga Konrad, an 18-year-old German woman who responded to a newspaper ad in the 1970s placed by Ernest Dumoulin, a man searching for a bride. Despite her father's warnings, Helga eloped with Ernest to Scotland. They married at an inn on Friday the 13th, October 1972, and the very next day, Helga was dead—having fallen off a cliff during a supposed romantic walk. Initially, Ernest claimed it was a tragic accident. But suspicion grew when the innkeeper discovered paperwork showing that Ernest had taken out a massive life insurance policy on Helga just before her death. Ernest had financial problems and had attempted to cash in the policy mere days after the incident. His story quickly unraveled.
