  1. AI is the new DEI

    AI is the new DEI

Welcome to Bright Ones! I will be your spirit animal this month. Come with me as we waddle our way through some good news! DEI is the new AI In the natural world, gods creatures evolve faster on the edge between two environments. This is becaue there's more diversity and competition. Why? This is because a being improves when there's more stimulus and competion. This is what DEI (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) was supposed to be. Give opportunity and get away from status quo's. Hear me out before getting angry. We are not pushing any agenda other than kindness here at Bright Ones. DEI was not meant to take away opportunity for anybody. It was meant to give consieration to mixing things up. However... CEO's love agendas! This executive group LOVES to follow the rest of the VIP herd. That's ironic in a way because every CEO likes to portray themselves as an innovater. The best CEO's are. However many bad ones could be considered mindless corporate zombies. For various reasons we won't extrapolate on the why but DEI is gone for now. What came to fill the executive push? AI is the new DEI! Head honchos are pushing AI like no tomorrow. Why? Well the reason the average CEO thinks it proves to their board and owners that they are going down the right path. AI can improve a lot of jobs. However, just pour AI sauce all over the place willy nilly is pointless. AI can be good and give the power to the people. For example, look at me?! This script was written by a real person but performed by a AI "mediteranean femaled dj with wavy hair" Bright Ones will be playing with this classic Scicillian stereotype the rest of the month to see if you like it better than our goofy bulldog mascot! The goal!?! Well it's to spoonfeed goodness and uplifting stories to the masses. Doing more to less and giving power to the people is good and this month we will try it out! Stories might be delayed this month as we test out the way to provide the most amount of good to our fans!

    Baseball miracle on the Niagara!

Welcome to Bright Ones, the weird little podcast where we sniff out uplifting and often underreported news! You know what to do... let's start sniffing! Today we're headed to one of our favorite underreported uplifting places: Western New York! The local SUNY Niagara Thunderwolves baseball team just pulled off the classic sports story that we love rooting for. SUNY Niagara is a community college, not a giant athletic powerhouse with endless resources, national recruiting pipelines, and major athletic budgets. But this year, the Thunderwolves showed that heart and determination can still beat money and reputation, winning the NJCAA Division III National Championship. What makes this story even better is that last year, the Thunderwolves entered the national tournament with an incredible 51-2 record and came home without the title. Many teams would have let that heartbreak define them. Western NY and Buffalo specifically has a reputation of getting bad luck in playoffs and championship games. That's why this story shines a little brighter! This season SUNY Niagara battled through the national tournament to meet up in the final with three-time defending champion Rowan College of South Jersey-Gloucester. History would indicate Niagara would be overshadowed by the same dark cloud of doom that plagues the rest of the region! NOT THIS TIME! The game ended with a Niagara win and my favorite kind of pile?! Can you guess what kind? Give up!?! My favorite pile is a DOG pile! It's a reminder that success isn't always about having the biggest budget. Most of these players are local students and a huge local win! A real miracle on grass if you will! Resilience, teamwork, and refusing to quit after disappointment is proof that the little guy can still win. And that's the kind of good news worth celebrating. I'm rooting for you, Buffalo. Keep doing amazing things. Until next time, keep on rooting for the underdog and like me try to be a goodboy! WOOF!

Why farts make kids brains healthier!

Welcome to BrightOnes, the weird little podcast where we sniff out uplifting and underreported news! You know what to do... let’s start sniffing! Scientists are discovering that something wonderfully simple may help children handle stress better: laughter. New research from Yale researchers and children’s hospitals found that humor can help kids become more emotionally resilient during difficult situations. Researchers say laughter may help children regulate emotions, recover from stress more quickly, and feel safer during challenging experiences. The study focused on how humor affects children facing anxiety, uncertainty, and medical stress. Experts found that playful interactions and laughter can strengthen emotional coping skills while also building trust between children and adults. Brain researchers say humor activates areas involved in emotion, learning, memory, and social connection. In plain English: when kids laugh, their brains are doing a lot more than just reacting to a joke. Researchers also emphasized that humor helps create stronger bonds between children and caregivers. A silly joke, funny voice, or goofy moment can help kids feel more secure and supported, especially during stressful times. Here's some math... if laughing is good for kids brains and kids think farts are funny... HENCE Farts are good for young brains!!!! And honestly, that feels important right now. The modern world can be loud, stressful, and packed with anxiety for adults and kids alike. But this research suggests small moments of joy may have lasting effects. So if you spend time with children today, maybe lean into the silly voices, terrible dad jokes, and chaotic dancing in the kitchen. Turns out making kids laugh is not just fun. It might actually help build stronger, healthier minds.

    Be weird but never silent!

Welcome to BrightOnes, the weird little podcast where we sniff out uplifting and often under reported news! You know what to do... let's start sniffing! Whether you’re conservative, liberal, independent, or just politically exhausted the news cycle and link bait makes you tired enough to stay in your designer Eddie Bauer dog bed! However, even though we don't like that news is all about viral moments and misleading headlines, yes even ours, there’s something genuinely interesting happening right now with Stephen Colbert launching his own YouTube channel after leaving network television. And honestly? This story matters way beyond politics. It's about free speech! If speech only exists for people we agree with, then it’s not really freedom. It’s just a fan club with stricter lighting. For decades, comedians, journalists, and creators needed giant corporations to endorse who got a microphone. Stephen posted clips to a public access style show called "Only in Monroe" and immediately started getting copyright takedowns. Now to be fair, copyright law absolutely matters. Creators deserve ownership of their work. But the public reaction showed something deeper brewing underneath all this. People are hungry for spaces where creativity, criticism, comedy, parody, and weird experimental ideas can exist without everything being filtered through giant media systems chasing outrage clicks. That’s not a left-wing idea or a right-wing idea. That’s a human idea. A free society only works when people can openly talk, joke, criticize, disagree, and create without fear that every uncomfortable opinion gets erased the second somebody powerful dislikes it. Until next time keep free speech free, keep being weird and like me try to be a good boy WOOF!

The biggest secret your boss's boss is hiding!

Welcome to Bright Ones the 3 minute podcast that points out underappreciate goodness that went overlooked! Come with me as we sniff out a positive story! SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF Links: ScienceAim article Fortune coverage of the global study Scientific American summary APA article on the rise of the 4-day workweek Scientists and workplace researchers keep running the same experiment over and over again. The results are always the same but the majority of global companies keep ignoring! What is this hidden secret that the status quo tries to keep under wraps!? The secret is, the 4 day work week is win-win! We've mentioned this briefly before but this fact deserves it's on mini-cast! We need to shout from the rooftops that, for most salaried job types people still get their work done in 4 days vs 5! In more recent proof a massive international four-day workweek study followed companies across the U.S., Canada, Britain, and Ireland. Workers got the same pay, but worked fewer hours. The same work got done but researchers found... - Burnout dropped - Job satisfaction improved - Sick days went down - Productivity stayed the same or even improved Additionally one report found employee turnover dropped by more than 50 percent . Another showed many workers saved nearly four hours a week just by cutting unnecessary meetings and workplace fluff. Apparently humanity needs less “quick sync meetings”. Researchers also noticed people slept better, had less stress, and improvements in mental health. Improving health this way makes a healthier employee which also means reduction of medical needs which has a direct cost reduction benefit to employees. Now, to be fair, not every job type can instantly switch to four days. Hospitals, emergency services, all service industries in fact and many physical jobs have different challenges. Most supporters say it takes careful planning and smarter workflows. "Butts in office chairs" does not directly equate to productivity. In fact, it may be the exact opposite. In anectodal evidence, a few years back a startup actually required employees spend 20% of their time, one full day, to work on other side-projects. The little company did well for itself and continues a version of that program to this very day. I heard they were doing well for themselves The name of that company... is Google. Maybe the future of productivity is not humans becoming being replaced by robots. Maybe it’s humans getting enough sleep to stop replying “you too” when the waiter says “enjoy your meal.” That's our episode today. Keep looking for good news hiding under the world’s giant pile of notifications and like me try to be a goodboy WOOF!

How "Decoration Day" became "Memorial Day"

Welcome to Bright Ones where we shine 3 minutes of spotlight on uplifting stories that go underappreciated! Happy Memorial Day! Memorial Day arrives with flowers blooming, grills smoking, beach bum lounging and the unofficial start of summer. Underneath the hotdogs, burgers, sunscreen and parades is one of the most emotional holidays in American history. The first Memorial Day occured on May 30th 1868 and was called "Decoration Day". At the time, families still struggling to process the loss of family members from America's deadliest war, the Civil War. People were encouraged to decorate soldiers' graves with flags, flowers and handwritten notes. Main organizer, General John A. Logan, chose this date to coincide when flowers would bloom. The result, cemeteries went from gray grief stricken places to uplifting epicenters of color and rememberance. Many American towns in the 1960's claim to be the official birthplace of the first official Memorial Day. We like that! Sometimes good ideas are just too great to come from a single spot! Now in my opinion today isn't a day for sadness. It is a day to remember and respect . Many people we remember today paid the ultimate price while fighting for a leader that they might not have voted for. It's essential to remember that these men and women didn't hesitate and gave all despite having voting for the other guy and having different beliefs. If you notice my outfit in the video or episode art you will notice I am casual. I normally dress in a matching outfit but that isn't the right thing to day on a day like today. The valor all belongs to those who gave all! Remember today is a day to remember, not a day to be sad. Be happy but be sure to think of all those people who those looking down on you while you crush your 7th corn on the cob! So go start up the grill, pull out all you condiments fixins and like me try be a goodboy WOOF

How to save your own life by fighting evolution!

Welcome to episode 45 of Bright Ones! Your 3 minute podcast where we sniff out under reported good news! SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF Today's good news is all about eating. More exactly today is about the benefits of going down to a more healthy weight. It's been shown multiple times that, for those overweight, that eating better and intaking less calories a day is good for you. Style changes like "The Mediterranean Diet" work well and reduce diabetes risks by a third but don't tend to last forever. Here are some of the big reasons! Junk food is aimed at overloading your brain's reward centers "The Dorito Effect" Flavor Tricked Misleading nutrition labelling confuses Constant food ads stimulate your hunger more than Pavlov's dog Evolution lead to lower full response because overeating when calories were available got you through thin times. Eating a little too much a day can lead to 10 or more pounds extra a year. Think one soda, half a candy bar or those fries at the bottom of occational burger bag! (Everybody knows those baglers are supposed to be for dogs anyway!) Who's really to blame? Well it's hormones! It's much harder to get fit than it is to stay fit because your body hormones want you to stay that way. DARN STUPID HORMONES always messing with our lives! That's why GLP1 meds have been saving lives! For the first time ever the number over people overweight has dropped! Also because of this people get type 2 diabetes less, snore less, get less osteoarthritis, get less chronic kidney disease and heart failure through June 2025. Also fertility goes up! (You've been warned people!) For so often us chubsters out there have been told "Move more, eat less" without any mention to that evil little never ending hunger devil sitting on our shoulder. Now that these hunger meds are dropping in price we encourage those that may benefit to not worry about the stigma. It's ok to admit that you need a little help. Besides, it is easier to be more active when you carry less extra pounds! Until next time, stay healthy, don't be afraid of asking for help and like me TRY to be a goodboy WOOF!
