Why Build Forward — A note to African founders.

Why Build Forward — A Note to African Founders Hosted by Ekerete Lord-kris, Founding Partner of Xpress Digital Co. This is not a welcome. It is a dispatch. A late-night note to one founder — and through them, to a generation. In this opening episode of Build Forward: Field Notes from African Founders, Lord-kris names the wound African founders have carried for over a decade: the infrastructure gaps, the capital drought, the psychological weight of conviction in a market that has rarely confirmed success at scale. He documents the conditions precisely, not as complaint, but as the backdrop against which a generation has chosen to build anyway. From there, he calls the Builders — the generation closing the gap themselves, writing the next version of one of the most consequential economies in human history. He names the documentation crisis: the sharp reality that Africa’s founder story is being written but not recorded, and the cost of letting it evaporate. Build Forward exists as the archive — a record of founders in the middle of the work, before the exit, before the headline, while the lessons are still fresh. Every episode follows five acts: Where it started. What they faced. Where it broke. What changed. What comes next. This is Lord-kris’s personal mandate: to act as archivist, asking the questions and getting out of the way, so the record can exist. The invitation is clear: this is for early and growth-stage founders actively building, whose journeys contain lessons others need. It is not for polished stories. It is for the true version. And to the founder listening who thinks their story is not significant enough — this episode disagrees with you directly. You are precisely who this archive was built for. The charge is simple, said plainly: Build Forward.
