    Entering construction can feel overwhelming-but you belong here. These tips are designed to help you start strong, stay confident, and build a career that lasts. 1. Learn the Basics Before You Step On Site You don’t need to know everything-but understanding basic tools, terminology, and safety gives you confidence.  Learn common tools and materials  Know jobsite safety rules  Ask questions early Confidence grows when fear is reduced. 2. Speak Up Early Your voice matters from day one.  Ask for clarification  Don’t apologize for learning  Speak with confidence, even when unsure Silence is often mistaken for uncertainty. 3. Work Smart, Not Just Hard You don’t need to outwork everyone to earn respect.  Focus on quality  Pay attention to details  Use proper lifting techniques and PPE Your body matters-protect it. 4. Set Boundaries Immediately Respect starts with boundaries.  Address inappropriate comments early  Stay professional and firm  Document issues if needed Boundaries aren’t attitude…they’re standards. 5. Find Your People Support makes the difference.  Seek mentors  Connect with other tradeswomen  Join industry groups You don’t have to do this alone. 6. Don’t Take Everything Personally Construction is direct and fast-paced.  Feedback is often blunt, not personal  Learn to separate tone from intent  Filter noise from useful advice Thick skin + self-trust = power. 7. Learn the Business Side Early The most successful women learn more than the tools.  How jobs are bid  How schedules work  How money flows Knowledge equals leverage. 8. Take Care of Your Body Your body is your most important tool.  Stretch daily  Wear proper gear  Speak up about injuries early Longevity matters. 9. You Belong Here You don’t need permission to take up space.  You earned your spot  You don’t need to fit a mold  You are capable Representation matters…and you are it. 10. Think Long-Term Construction can lead to:  Leadership  Business ownership  Financial independence  Mentorship and legacy This isn’t just a job…it’s a career.
