Episode 653 Can You Love What Isn't Perfect? Acceptance, Faith & America's 250th Birthday with Bizzy

Send us Fan Mail As America celebrates its 250th birthday, I found myself asking a difficult but important question: Can I allow this moment to be exactly as it is, even if I wish it were different? In this deeply personal solo episode of It's Bizzy, I reflect on acceptance, faith, forgiveness, family, recovery, and learning to love imperfect things—including ourselves. From my own experiences with divorce, estrangement, recovery, and trusting God's plan, to reflections on our country and our shared humanity, this episode is about finding peace when life doesn't look the way we hoped it would. We explore: How to practice acceptance when life feels painful Why forgiveness is essential for healing Learning to trust God when we don't understand the plan Loving our families, our country, and ourselves despite imperfections Letting go of control and choosing action over resentment Finding joy, gratitude, and hope in the present moment As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, perhaps the real question isn't whether life is perfect—but whether we can learn to love it anyway. ✨ Can you love something, even when you wish it were different? 5. Episode 649: When Bizzy Stopped Being Busy

Episode 649: When Bizzy Stopped Being Busy

Send us Fan Mail Have you ever noticed that when life gets uncomfortable, it's easier to stay busy than it is to sit still and feel? In this solo episode, I'm sharing something I've been learning while writing my book. After reaching more than 45,000 words, I've spent a lot of time looking back on my life, and I've realized that for years, busyness was my way of avoiding difficult emotions. If I was moving, multitasking, taking care of everyone else, planning the next thing, or chasing the next goal, I didn't have to slow down long enough to feel what was really going on inside. Lately, I've been doing the opposite. I've been setting boundaries, staying home, writing, reflecting, praying, and learning that growth often happens in the quiet moments we try so hard to avoid. I also share some observations from my recent travels and how watching Europeans experience America through fresh eyes reminded me of the things we often take for granted—our friendliness, our optimism, our communities, and the simple joys that surround us every day. If you've been feeling overwhelmed, distracted, exhausted, or disconnected, this episode is an invitation to slow down, take a breath, and ask yourself a simple question: What am I staying busy to avoid feeling? In this episode:  • Why busyness can become a distraction from our emotions  • What writing my book is teaching me about myself  • The myth of multitasking  • Learning to be present instead of constantly moving  • Gratitude, travel, and seeing America through new eyes  • Why slowing down may be the most productive thing we can do Thank you for listening. Episode 648 How Nervous System Health Shapes Recovery: A Conversation with Lane Kennedy (29 Years Sober)

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 646, I sit down with Lane Kennedy, a woman with 29 years of continuous sobriety and someone whose work deeply resonates with where so many of us are today. Lane is a Calm Living Docent who guides people toward optimal health through a powerful blend of DNA wisdom, meditation, mindfulness, and personalized nutrition. She’s also a mindfulness and nervous system regulation teacher, DNA functional nutritionist, and the author of Sobriety for Dummies. Lane and I talk about what long‑term recovery really looks like after decades of growth, motherhood, and unexpected health challenges — including her recent diagnosis of dysautonomia, which forced her to rethink her pace, her priorities, and her definition of “busy.” We dive into her early days getting sober in 90s Los Angeles, her years in the fashion world, and how she eventually found her way into the work she does now: helping people restore balance, boost vitality, and unlock the body’s natural capacity for healing. Her approach blends biochemistry, mindset, stress science, and lived experience — and you can feel that wisdom in everything she shares. In this episode, we explore: ·       How nervous system health shapes sobriety at every stage ·       Why so many of us feel overstimulated, anxious, or burnt out ·       The impact of technology and constant dopamine hits on our emotional        stability ·       Parenting in a tech‑saturated world ·       The difference between real human connection and digital connection ·       How recovery evolves over decades ·       Why co‑regulation, community, and in‑person meetings still matter ·       What it means to create more quiet, space, and presence in your life If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in “busy mode,” this conversation will help you understand what your body is trying to tell you — and how to come back to yourself. Episode 647 When Sobriety Gets Messy: California Sober, AA Culture Shifts & Speaking Truth with Bizzy

Send us Fan Mail In this solo episode, I talk about a shocking conversation with an old friend whose relapse—and the way he was treated in the rooms—left me stunned. From “California sober” to being kicked out of a meeting, I unpack what’s changed in recovery culture, what hasn’t, and why honesty about sobriety still matters. I also dive into the bigger picture: how our world has become more fluid, more confusing, and sometimes downright upside‑down. From AI writing papers to states struggling to count votes, to shifting social norms and the loss of basic respect, I explore what it means to stay grounded, sober, and spiritually awake in a chaotic time. If you’ve ever questioned what sobriety really means today, felt discouraged by the behavior of others in recovery, or wondered how we hold onto truth in a world that keeps moving the goalposts, this episode will speak to you. Episode 646: How to Support a Loved One Through Gambling Addiction with Anita Ondine Smith

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 646, I sit down with Anita Ondine Smith, a writer, lawyer, and sports agent whose work blends deep personal experience with compassionate, practical guidance for families impacted by gambling addiction. Anita writes from the perspective of someone who has lived through the ripple effects of addiction, offering tools people can use immediately to support a loved one without losing themselves. Anita and her husband, former NBA player Randy Livingston, are on a mission to destigmatize conversations about gambling harm. As Anita shares in our conversation, stigma was “the number one impediment” to Randy getting help — and she felt that same shame as the supporter who didn’t know where to turn. We talk about the moment she realized that supporting someone with a gambling addiction requires its own kind of recovery, and how her background with addiction in her own family helped her understand that recovery is possible — even when it takes decades to begin. Anita opens up about: ·      How gambling addiction is often hidden for years— even decades ·      Why today’s world makes gambling more accessible than ever (“a casino in our hand and our pockets everywhere we go”) ·      The difference between responsible gaming and problem gambling ·      Why setting limits is essential — and how some people simply can’t ·      How she learned to set boundaries, communicate clearly, and stop trying to “fix” someone else ·      Why uncomfortable conversations are the key to change ·      How she and Randy talk openly with their children about addiction to break generational stigma Anita also shares the story behind her new book, ASSIST, which she wrote because there were no resources for the supporter — the spouse, partner, parent, or friend living in the orbit of someone with a gambling addiction. She describes it as a menu of options, not a prescription, because every family and every addiction looks different. If you’ve ever loved someone struggling with addiction — or felt alone, ashamed, or unsure how to help — this conversation will give you hope, clarity, and practical tools for moving forward.
