    7. From Burnout to Sacred Self-Care: Healing, Boundaries & Community with Dr. Truth

Therapist and coach Dr. Truth joins me to talk about burnout from the inside out—how it shows up in our bodies, why “managing time” isn’t enough, and how sacred self-care, boundaries, and community help us heal. We dig into reframing the Strong Black Woman script, listening to your body, and shifting from hustle to wholeness. What We Cover Dr. Truth’s path from community roots to private practice & coaching Burnout signs she ignores at her own risk—and what she does instead “Manage energy, not time”: practical ways to build a restorative day Sacred self-care vs. surface self-care (and why the difference matters) Saying no (even to your mama) and naming a personal self-care day Breaking generational cycles with family-centered healing Community as strategy: why entrepreneurs need rooms that refill them Changing limiting core beliefs to change your results—in life and work Key Takeaways Your body tells the truth first. Irritability, body aches, hair changes, and disconnection from friends are early burnout alarms—don’t wait for a collapse to listen. Energy > time. Move from chasing tasks to managing your state: strategic pauses, naps, silence, and prayer/meditation create more effective hours. Sacred self-care is deeper than hair & nails. Center your spirit daily—15 minutes counts. Refill first, then give from overflow. Replace the script. The “do more to be enough” story is a limiting belief. Practice the power of no to others and yes to yourself without guilt. Healing is a systems thing. Wraparound support (you, family, school, community) breaks generational cycles and sustains change. Choose your paradigm. Vision, values, and the thoughts you rehearse shape outcomes—rewrite them on purpose. Notable Quotes “Burnout is a sign to rest, not a signal to push harder.” “I don’t manage time anymore—I manage my energy.” “Self-care isn’t selfish; sacred self-care is strategy.” Resources & Links Mentioned Dr. Truth & Associates (Therapy + Coaching) – www.drtruthandassociates.com/ Transformational Group Coaching (8 weeks) – starts Oct 28 Book: FIERCE Communities referenced: Traffic, Sales & Profit, Walker’s Legacy, Urban League, Atlanta Black Chambers Book mention: Cindy Trimm – Command Your Morning About Dr. Truth About Dr. Truth Dr. Ngonzi Truth Crushshon is a licensed-eligible psychologist with 15+ years of experience in the mental health field, specializing in healing for psychological trauma. 2. 6. The Myth of Work-Life Balance — Finding Harmony in a Busy Life

    10/10/2025

    6. The Myth of Work-Life Balance — Finding Harmony in a Busy Life

Is work-life balance the ultimate goal or the ultimate myth? In this episode of Busyness & Burnout, I’m diving into why I believe work-life balance is a myth—and what we should be aiming for instead: harmony, not balance. We’ve been taught to picture life as a perfect 50/50 split between work and everything else. But life doesn’t work that way. It’s dynamic, shifting, and full of seasons. Some days, your career takes up most of the wheel. Other days, your health, relationships, or rest deserve more space—and that’s okay. Here’s how to find peace in the imbalance, create harmony in your busy seasons, and move toward progress (not perfection). Episode Summary Work-life balance sounds great in theory—but it’s a myth rooted in unrealistic expectations. Instead of striving for a perfect split between “work” and “life,” we can begin to see our lives as a wheel with many slices—career, health, relationships, rest, fun, growth, and more. Each slice changes in size depending on the season you’re in, and that’s not failure—it’s life. In this episode, I explore: Why the idea of “balance” leads to guilt and burnout How to redefine success through whole-life harmony The power of grace, reflection, and micro-moments of rest Why progress matters more than perfection Key Takeaways Work-life balance is a myth. Life is not split into two neat halves—it’s fluid and ever-changing. Harmony means giving yourself permission to focus on what needs your attention in this season. Let go of guilt when things feel unbalanced—your wheel doesn’t need to look perfect to move forward. Regular check-ins help you stay aligned: ask yourself, “What needs attention right now?” Prioritize based on values, not external pressure. Some slices of your life will naturally need more energy than others. Grace, rest, and flexibility are what create sustainability—not chasing the impossible idea of balance. Some Thoughts.. “Work-life balance is a myth—a capitalistic construct that keeps us chasing an impossible ideal.” “Your life isn’t a seesaw—it’s a wheel. Some slices will be bigger than others, and that’s okay.” “Progress isn’t about perfection; sometimes standing still is the growth you need.” Resources + Mentions Whole-Life Success Worksheet (coming soon!) 4. Imposter Syndrome: Why Doing More Will Never Make You Enough

Imposter syndrome has a sneaky way of driving us into nonstop busyness—filling our schedules, chasing accomplishments, and overcommitting—not because we want to, but because we feel we have to. In this episode, I open up about how imposter syndrome has fueled my own hustle patterns, why productivity does not equal worth, and the practical tools I’ve used to step back, reclaim my peace, and embrace the truth: you are already enough. We’ll explore: -How imposter syndrome shows up in our lives and businesses -The myth of busyness as proof of worthiness -Why rest is productive -Tools to celebrate wins, set boundaries, and say “no” without guilt - How to reconnect with your why instead of proving yourself to others → Key Takeaways - Imposter syndrome convinces us we’re not enough, even when we’ve already achieved so much. - Busyness does not equal value—productivity doesn’t define your worth. - Rest is productive and necessary for sustainable success. - Keep a record of your wins to counter the inner critic in real time. - Every no creates space for a more meaningful yes. → Quotable Moments “Productivity does not equal value.” “Rest is productive.” “Every no creates space for a meaningful yes.” → Resources & Links Mentioned - Melissa Fredericks (@mrskevonstage) quote: “You are worthy as is, without change, without exception.” - Blog post: What’s On Your Plate vs. What You’re Actually Hungry For - Hint of Hustle Podcast episode on imposter syndrome with Sydnea on her coach’s podcast - Blog Post: Prioritizing Tasks with Eisenhower → Connect with Sydnea Instagram: @busynessandburnout Website & Resources: busynessandburnout.com This is a public episode. 3. Freelancing, Burnout, and Imposter Syndrome with Patricia Ordóñez

In this very first guest conversation on Busyness and Burnout, I sit down with designer and content creator Patricia Ordóñezof Hola Rara (@hola.rara). Patricia shares her winding journey from environmental sciences and NGO leadership in Venezuela, to freelancing across different countries, to eventually building a thriving brand and web design business. We talk openly about: How imposter syndrome shows up for creatives and how to navigate it The reality of undercharging and setting boundaries with clients Burnout cycles and how to recognize the warning signs sooner The importance of community, feedback, and therapy in sustaining your business Why it’s okay not to have it all figured out (and why cutting yourself some slack is crucial) Patricia also introduces her new Setup Week service—designed to help freelancers get their systems, processes, and websites running smoothly without the overwhelm. 🧠 Key Takeaways Your career path doesn’t have to be linear to be valid. Community and mentorship are powerful antidotes to imposter syndrome. Burnout isn’t always avoidable—but you can shorten recovery time with awareness and tools. Systems, SOPs, and small daily practices (like journaling) create space to breathe. Cut yourself some slack—progress in freelancing comes through mistakes, reflection, and growth. 💬 Quotable Moments “You don’t have to eat everything on your plate just because it’s there.” “Imposter syndrome is just a little voice in your head—it’s not the truth.” “Freelancing is lonely at first, but community changes everything.” About Patricia:Patricia is a brand and web designer specializing in helping expat women in business create high-converting, personality-packed designs that make them stand out online.Through her VIP Design Days and Custom Brand and Web Design, she delivers high-quality, strategic branding and websites in record time, helping clients feel confident, look professional, and attract high-paying opportunities. 📍Website: www.holarara.com 📲 Instagram: @hola.rara https://www.instagram.com/hola.rara/ 📲LinkedIn: Patricia Ordoñez https://www.linkedin.com/in/holarara/ 📲Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@houseoffreelancers 📚 Resources & Links Mentioned Getting Things Done by David Allen (re: action items and systems) ✨ Connect with Sydnea Instagram: @busynessandburnout Website & Resources: busynessandburnout.com This is a public episode. 6. 2. Beyond Time Management: Focusing on What Really Matters

    2. Beyond Time Management: Focusing on What Really Matters

Time management isn’t really about time—it’s about what we choose to focus on, where we spend our energy, and how we set our boundaries. In this episode, I get real about how I’ve reframed “time management” in my own life and business. I share why we can’t actually control time (spoiler: it keeps moving no matter what) but we can manage our attention and energy in ways that bring more peace and sustainability. From learning how to say no, to breaking tasks down into “next action items,” to using tools like the Eisenhower Matrix, we’ll dig into how to stop chasing the illusion of productivity and start building rhythms that actually support us. I also explore the metaphor of the plate—what’s on it, what you’re actually hungry for, and why it’s okay to leave things off for now. Because being busy isn’t the same as being fulfilled. Key Takeaways You can’t manage time—but you can manage your attention, energy, and expectations.Schedules and time blocking create freedom, not limitation. The Eisenhower Matrix is a simple tool to sort urgent vs. important.Progress isn’t about doing more—it’s about the next right action step.Ask yourself: What’s on my plate right now, and what am I actually hungry for?Quotable Moments “Time is not real—it’s our attention and energy that matter.”“Just because it’s urgent doesn’t mean it’s important.”“You don’t have to eat everything on your plate just because it’s there.”“Sometimes the next step isn’t doing more—it’s slowing down.”→ Connect with Sydnea Instagram: @busynessandburnout Website & Resources: busynessandburnout.com Subscribe to the Newsletter: Get tools to thrive without hustle, directly in your inbox. → Loved this episode?
