Detour: Fort St. James
On our adventure- By Car, we take you on an odyssey through Central and Northern British Columbia, home to stone sheep, moose, grizzly and black bear, a natural hot springs pool, ancient totems, legendary fishing, glaciers, the Northern Lights, First Nations culture and Fur Trade history. On this episode, We take a “Detour” to explore some hidden gems, off the main road. Today, we begin in Vanderhoof and travel along Highway 16, to Highway 27.

Vanderhoof To Prince Rupert
In this episode, we explore BC’s northwest coast. Dominated by a temperate rainforest, it’s part of five distinct ecoregions: Puget lowland forests, Central Pacific Coastal Forests, British Columbia Mainland Coastal Forests, Haida Gwaii Coastal Forests and The Pacific Coastal Mountain Icefields and Tundra. Today we embark from Westline Ford in Vanderhoof to one of the world’s deepest ice-free harbors and what is considered to be the “wettest” city in Canada.

Detour: Dog Creek and Gang Ranch
On this episode of “Detour,” we explore some hidden gems off the main road. Today’s detour begins in Williams Lake. Jason Ryle, executive director for the William’s Lake and district chamber of commerce. From Williams Lake, we travel along Highway 20, also known as the Chilcotin Highway named after the original stewards of the areas, the Chilcotin people, officially named the Alexander MacKenzie Highway. this is one of the two main East-West routes in the Central Interior of British Columbia. We take a detour off the highway to stop in Dog Creek.

Williams Lake To Bella Coola
Today we travel from Williams Lake to Bella Coola along Highway 20, an east-west route also known as the Chilcotin highway named after the original people from the area. Along the way, we’ll encounter a gravel, single-lane steep mountain road affectionately known by locals as “the Hill”.
