    CAHPSTONE Conversation with Nadia Grogan

    Send us a text Nadia Grogan has worked in the stone industry across Canada in a variety of roles, including as a conservation technician, draftsperson, project manager, and stonemason. Nadia has worked as the Asset Manager for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Canada Americas and Pacific office since 2024. From 2019 to 2024, she worked on the Centre Block Rehabilitation Project as a masonry conservator. In 2012, Nadia earned her HBSc in Archaeology, Human Biology, and Art History from the University of Toronto. During her studies, she developed an interest in built heritage conservation, which led her to obtaining a diploma in Heritage and Traditional Masonry in 2013. She earned an MSc in World Heritage Conservation through University College Dublin in 2023. Her experience in the construction industry has been multi-faceted; she has worked on residential, commercial, and heritage projects. She has hands-on experience cleaning, repairing, cutting, and installing stone, as well as managing stone installation and fabrication projects. The Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) is a national membership-based organization that serves qualified heritage professionals in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. CAHP establishes standards of practice, shares knowledge about heritage conservation, and supports the involvement of heritage professionals whenever places of heritage value are being identified, preserved, restored and rehabilitated.

    CAHPSTONE Conversation with Patrick Moore

Moore is an internationally recognized, multi-award-winning carpenter and construction manager with a distinguished career leading multiple multimillion-dollar mega projects for a top construction firm. Beyond his primary role as a program manager, he has earned global acclaim for his expertise in stereotomy, particularly the French craft of L'Art du Trait, a UNESCO-listed heritage technique. In 2014, Moore founded The Professional School of Practical Stereotomy in Ottawa, Canada, a unique institution offering education and training in practical stereotomy, where students have the opportunity to obtain up to a Master’s certificate in Stereotomy. Moore's commitment to advancing the field of carpentry is evident through his role as an instructor in carpentry programs worldwide, where he has significantly elevated the standard of carpentry skills, particularly in North America. With over a decade of advanced, globally accredited education, he achieved the notable distinction of being the first person from the English-speaking world to be accepted as a "Compagnon Passant Charpentier" in France, a title within the Compagnonnage, a distinguished group of master artisans dating back to the 13th century and recognized by UNESCO.  Additionally his work has been recognized and displayed in museums across the world for his expertise in craftsmanship. His dedication to the craft, involvement in international communities, and contributions to heritage lead to his recognition as  Alien of Extraordinary Ability (E11) in the United States.  Moore’s contributions to heritage set him apart as an exceptional heritage professional.  The Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) is a national membership-based organization that serves qualified heritage professionals in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.     CAHPSTONE Conversation with Roberto Chiotti

    Send us a text Roberto Chiotti, MTS, OAA (retired), FRAIC, LEED AP, CAHP, is founding principal emeritus of Larkin Architect Limited, an award-winning,Toronto based firm specializing in the conservation of historic churches and the design of sustainable sacred space for parishes and religious communities mostly within the Christian Tradition.  Roberto obtained an architectural degree from the University of Waterloo in 1978, he also holds a Master’s of Theology from the University of St. Michael’s College (University of Toronto) which he received in 1988.  He is a Building Specialist member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals, founding member of the Canadian Green Building Council’s Greater Toronto Chapter, and a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He currently serves on the Board of the Architecture, Culture, and Spirituality Forum whose mission is to provide an international forum for scholarship, education, practice, and advocacy regarding the cultural and spiritual significance of the built environment. He also chairs the Board of the Trent Hills Arts and Heritage Centre whose mandate is to educate and increase the public’s awareness and appreciation of the diversity in the arts, culture and local heritage. ____________________ Roberto Chiotti, MTS, OAA (retraité), FRAIC, LEED AP, ACECP, est le directeur fondateur émérite de Larkin Architect Ltd, un cabinet primé de Toronto spécialisé dans la conservation des églises historiques et la conception d'espaces sacrés durables pour les paroisses et les communautés religieuses de tradition chrétienne.     CAHPStone Conversation with Colin Yu

    Send us a text Colin Yu is a Heritage Planner with the City of Toronto. He holds a BSc specialized in Anthropology from the University of Toronto and an M.A. in Heritage and Archaeology from the University of Leicester. Colin has worked in the heritage industry for over 10 years and currently holds an active research license (R1104) with the Province of Ontario. He proudly serves as the President of the Ontario Association of Heritage Professionals (OAHP).  As a Heritage Planner with the City of Toronto, Colin has worked in the Development and Review team to approve development proposals and has provided professional recommendations to the Toronto Preservation Board. Colin has previously worked on numerous projects dealing with all aspects of Ontario’s cultural heritage. He has completed over a hundred cultural heritage technical reports for development proposals and include Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports, Heritage Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and Archaeological Assessments. Colin has worked on a wide range of cultural heritage resources including; cultural landscapes, institutions, commercial and residential sites as well as infrastructure such as bridges, dams, and highways.     Send us a text Welcome back to CAHPSTONE - a podcast about all things heritage related! This episode is once again hosted by Stephen Collette, the building manager for Faith & the Common Good. His expertise as both a building scientist and a 'building biologist' has led him to work with hundreds of faith community buildings to create sustainability plans to reduce energy and environmental impact. This episode features Gerry Zegerius, a structural engineer and senior associate at Tacoma Engineers Inc. Throughout his career, Gerry has assessed, analysed and restored many prominent heritage structures, ranging in size from small cottages to prominent National Historic Sites of Canada. Gerry is also an active member of CAHP, he previously held a seat on the Board, served on CAHP’s Conference Committee and was a member of the executive.  In his personal life, Gerry enjoys time at the ice rink, the baseball diamond, and in the woods. He is a proud husband and a father of three, and he loves to learn about the stories of places, buildings and people that make up the context of his work.
