Called BEYOND

Novo Mission

Called Beyond features a wide range of inspiring stories, all with a common thread—in every story we find evidence that God is inviting us to follow Him into a new normal. He is calling us to take steps of faith beyond the familiar territory of our everyday lives. Within Novo we believe Jesus wants to partner with each of us to build His kingdom on earth, and we believe you too are ”called beyond.” Called Beyond is produced by Simeon Lohrmann and Jonn Bartine. Our podcast host is Tim Shuck, who serves as the Director of Novo’s Spiritual Authority Cohorts. Novo is a band of creative missionaries sent to multiply movements of the gospel and mobilize the church for that mission around the world. S3 Ep3 Rooted in Christ, Courageous Obedience

What does it look like to be deeply rooted in Christ in the middle of everyday life? In this episode, Caleb and Ashley Farnworth share how learning to listen to the Holy Spirit has transformed ordinary, everyday moments. Parent-teacher conferences, dental appointments, and normal daily rhythms with their kids have become opportunities for Kingdom impact. Through simple obedience, the Farnworths have found that courage exists on the other side of trusting that God will speak and move as we step out in faith. From praying with patients, to raising kids who boldly practice healing prayer, this conversation explores how a life rooted in Christ produces courage and compassion towards others. As we are rooted in Christ, our lives become places where the Spirit moves freely—bringing hope, healing, and transformation to those around us. ----more---- Themes & Takeaways 1. The Holy Spirit makes obedience accessible Courage grows when we trust that God is already at work—and will speak through us. 2. Slow down to hear God’s voice Intentional pauses create space to receive and share what God is saying to others. 3. Look for “pressure points” in conversations Moments of anxiety, stress, or pain often open the door to deeper spiritual conversations. 4. Everyday spaces are mission fields From classrooms to dental chairs, God is moving in ordinary environments. 5. Courage involves risk—but also reward Obedience may lead to awkwardness or resistance, but it also leads to greater fruit and favor. 6. Model Kingdom living at home Children don’t just learn faith—they catch it. A lifestyle of obedience creates generational impact. 7. Starting small and stay consistent Courage is built through simple, repeatable steps of obedience over time. ----more---- Invitation What's one intentional step you can take this week to partner with the Holy Spirit? Ask God what He wants to say to someone in your daily life Act on it—whether through encouragement, prayer, or a simple conversation Reflect on what happens and keep practicing Consider inviting a friend to join you and share weekly stories of obedience and risk ----more---- 👥 About the Guests Caleb and Ashley Farnworth live near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where they are raising their four children and pursuing a lifestyle of everyday disciple-making. Caleb works in commercial real estate while intentionally building relationships and engaging people spiritually in his community. Ashley, a dental hygienist, views her work as a mission field—creating space to care for and encourage others through prayer and presence. Together, they are passionate about modeling a faith that is lived out daily, inviting both their family and those around them to experience the love and leadership of Jesus.

    S3 Ep2 Courageously Take Root

What does it look like to live with courage when life—and ministry—doesn’t go according to plan? In this second episode of Season 3, Tim Shuck sits down with returning guest Darren Prince to reflect on Joshua 1:9 and explore how courage is formed through the steady, reassuring presence of God with us. Drawing from nearly two decades of ministry in East London, Darren shares how his team has navigated major transitions—shifting communities, changing team dynamics, and an uncertain future. Instead of clinging to their original plans, they chose to follow where God was already at work. This conversation invites us to see courage not as boldness or certainty, but as a daily choice rooted in the promises of God. Key Highlights: Why the phrase “God is with you” is the foundation of true courage How to discern whether to stay the course or follow where God is moving Choosing courage in seasons that feel like loss or transition The shift from building programs to investing in people How everyday rhythms and community help sustain a courageous life Wherever you find yourself today—facing uncertainty, transition, or a difficult decision—remember: You are not alone. God is with you. And because of that, you can take the next step with courage. ----more---- To learn more about Novo’s mission to SPARK and SUSTAIN movements of the gospel among the nations, check out our website Novo.org or follow us @novomission on Facebook/Instagram.

S3 Ep1 The Courage to be Uprooted

What does it take to say yes to Jesus when it means leaving comfort behind? In this first episode of Season 3, Tim Shuck is joined by Cheryl Fletcher and Matt Weston to reflect on Luke 5:1–11 and the moment Jesus called the first disciples to leave everything and follow Him. Together, they share personal stories of unexpected turning points, difficult seasons, and the courage it takes to trust God one step at a time. This conversation sets the tone for Season 3 by helping us see that courage doesn’t always feel bold in the moment, but it often leads to deeper roots in Jesus. Episode Highlights Why courage often begins with discomfort The moment Peter left everything to follow Jesus—and what that means for us today What happens when you say yes to God and things don’t turn out the way you expected How God often reveals only the next step, not the whole plan The difference between reckless faith and courageous obedience How seasons of loss and uncertainty can deepen intimacy with Jesus Why the courageous choice is often the one that stretches you most Featured Guests Cheryl Fletcher (Novo Board Member & Pastor-in-Residence at APU) Cheryl shares powerful reflections from decades of ministry, including the courage it took to leave a stable church role and step into the unknown—just weeks before the world shut down in 2020. Her story is a reminder that obedience isn’t measured by outcomes, but by intimacy with Jesus. Matt Weston (Novo's Chief Operating Officer) Matt talks honestly about leaving a secure ministry role to join Novo and the difficult season that followed when plans didn’t unfold the way he expected. His story highlights how God often uses disruption to form our identity more deeply.
