What are You Really Hungry For? | Gluttony : Seven Deadly Sins | Conversations in the Word

Gluttony is about more than simply eating too much. Sometimes the deeper question is: What are we asking food—or any other appetite—to do for us? We eat when we're stressed. We consume when we're bored. We search for comfort when we're lonely. And without realizing it, we can begin looking to temporary things for the peace, joy, comfort, and satisfaction that ultimately come from God. In this episode of Conversations in the Word, we continue our Seven Deadly Sins series by looking at gluttony, the danger of being controlled by our appetites, and why Paul says, “I will not be mastered by anything.” We'll look at the difference between enjoying God's gifts and allowing those gifts to replace the Giver, how Jesus responded to physical hunger in the wilderness, and why biblical self-control is about more than simply trying harder. Food can fill your stomach, but it cannot fill your soul. Money Promises What Only God Can God | Greed: Seven Deadly Sins | Conversations in the Word

Greed isn't determined by how much money you have. It's revealed by what you're expecting money to do for you. In this episode of Conversations in the Word, we continue our Seven Deadly Sins series by looking at Jesus' Parable of the Rich Fool in Luke 12 and His warning that life does not consist in an abundance of possessions. Money promises security, freedom, peace, and satisfaction—but it can never love us, save us, give us purpose, or guarantee tomorrow. Money can be a resource God provides, but it was never meant to replace the God who provides it. We’ll look at how greed takes root in the heart, how money can quietly become a god in our lives, and how contentment and generosity help us live with open hands. Don't Delay | Sloth: Seven Deadly Sins | Conversations in the Word

What has God already placed in your hands that you keep putting off? Sloth is often reduced to laziness, but the deeper issue is neglecting what God has entrusted to us. Our time. Our gifts. Our responsibilities. Our relationships. Even our walk with Him. In this episode of Conversations in the Word, we continue our Seven Deadly Sins series by looking at Jesus' Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25 and what it teaches us about stewardship and faithfulness. We also discuss the difference between biblical rest and comfortable avoidance, why continually saying “tomorrow” can become dangerous, and why obedience doesn't always wait for motivation. As a reminder, the Bible does not give us a specific list called the “Seven Deadly Sins.” This framework developed later in Christian tradition, but each topic in this series addresses sins and heart conditions Scripture directly speaks about. God isn't asking you to be faithful with the life you wish you had. He's asking you to be faithful with the life He's given you. Stop waiting for different circumstances to become faithful. Start with what God has already placed in your hands.

Let Go and Let God | Wrath: Seven Deadly Sins | Conversations in the Word

Anger isn't always sinful—but what happens when anger begins controlling us? In this episode of Conversations in the Word, we continue our Seven Deadly Sins series by discussing wrath. While the Bible does not give us a specific list called the “Seven Deadly Sins,” each of these sins comes from patterns and principles clearly addressed throughout Scripture. We look at the difference between anger and wrath, why being right doesn't always make our response righteous, and how Jesus shows us a better way to respond when we've been hurt or wronged. Through James 1:19–20, Romans 12:19, 1 Peter 2:23, and other passages, we explore what Scripture calls us toward instead: patience, forgiveness, mercy, self-control, and trusting God with justice. Wrath says, “You hurt me, so you deserve to hurt too.” Mercy says, “You hurt me, but I refuse to let what you did determine who I become.” Be quick to listen. Slow to speak. Slow to anger. And trust God with the rest.
