    Leave the Light On: "Tribe"

When the road ahead twists unexpectedly, where do you find your strength and inspiration? Join my guest Dustin Tidwell and I as we wander through 'Changing Roads,' sharing tales of resilience, the embrace of new experiences, and the crucial role of creativity in facing life's challenges. Our conversation illuminates the personal transformations we've undergone and the communal bonds that have supported us along this journey.

Language and creativity possess a remarkable ability to reshape our reality, a theme we explore with depth and vulnerability. Through anecdotes and insights, we reveal how altering our inner dialogue from "why" to "how" can pivot our journey toward healing and growth.

We discuss how art forms can influence and even predict the path we walk, and how intention is the compass that guides us. The journey of healing and growth is one of constant learning, and with this episode, we invite you to join us in discovering the power of artistic collaboration and the adaptability of life's ever-changing roads. Remember, your journey can be altered by your own hands, and we're here to share the wisdom we've gathered along the way.

There and Back and Again: A Pilots Journey

There and Back and Again: A Pilots Journey

As the engines roar to life, memories of my father's stories fill the cabin—stories of birds mirroring planes and dreams of reaching the stars. This episode of Changing Roads is a family affair, with my dad, Brad, a retired Lieutenant Colonel and pilot, sharing the cockpit with me. Our tales take you from the rumble of takeoff to the gentle bump of landing, unearthing the stories that pilots carry home.

The horizon isn't just a boundary; it's an invitation for the wanderer in each of us. This episode closes with the echoes of a well-traveled teddy bear named Boris, whose journey to Moscow during the twilight of the Cold War revealed the universal longing for connection. As we ponder the allure of distant lands against the pull of home, we share insights from literary explorers and the wisdom of returning with fresh eyes to the places we cherish most. From the thrill of a near-astronaut encounter to the warmth of a homecoming, join us as we celebrate the aviation, it's lessons, and the indelible marks it leaves on our souls.

A Van Down by the River: The Shift to Nomadic Work and the New American Dream

A Van Down by the River: The Shift to Nomadic Work and the New American Dream

When the familiar strains of home fade into the rear-view mirror, stories unfold on the winding road of a nomadic life.   Chef Grayson McKee joins Brad and Ranger to discuss the service industry's highs and lows and the poignant shift, due to the economic turbulence of today, that drove Grayson (and others) to a nomadic working life.  Their collective journey isn't just about moving from one place to another; it's a deeper exploration of the spaces between stability and freedom, the meaning of community, and the reinvention of 'home' in an age where roots are mobile.

This episode isn't just about change; it's about the metamorphosis that work and travel etch upon the soul. They contemplate the bittersweet symphony of Grayson's personal development that accompanies moving on from the loss of a close friend, finding solace in the grandeur of Alaska's wilderness, and the surprising career paths that open up when you leap into the unknown. They further discuss the new American dream of van life and remote work — a vision of liberation where the open road bids us to chase happiness, even with its inherent sacrifices.

They discuss the unexpected friendships and cultural exchanges that blossom in the nomadic workspace, tackling tough topics like racism and making tough calls for the greater good. They unpack the allure of seasonal work, the stark realities of the American cost of living, and the enduring question of how our choices and experiences shape our lives. Brad, Ranger and Grayson explore a timeless truth: the richest treasures in life are often not possessions, but the beauty of our experiences.

What wonderful ambassadors for the B.A.R.K. Ranger Program

Can’t recommend this podcast enough! Brad and his service dog Ranger have accomplished an incredible feat by visiting all 63 of the US National Parks in one calendar year and are amazing ambassadors for the US Bark Ranger program. They invited the founders of the US Bark Rangers of the US National Parks facebook and instagram group, Ben & Nicki, to come onto the show recently for an episode and explain in a delightful way what it means to be a responsible and involved B.A.R.K Ranger and to help grow and support the program to other National Park Service sites. As a proud and active member of the US Bark Rangers of the US National Parks facebook group myself with two dogs and two cats traveling the US in our travel trailer seasonally, I was made aware of this podcast and tuned in yesterday to hear that particular episode. It is a wonderfully inspiring and detailed conversation with people and their paws explaining how and where to responsibly be engaged enjoying experiences together out in nature. The other episodes are equally interesting, inspiring and informative. Their love for the outdoors and the partnership between a loving dog and its human are something this world needs so much more of now and in all the day to come. Thank you Brad and Ranger. Keep creating more content please showcasing all that is special in these protected and celebrated outdoor spaces. I am now a new faithful listener.
