Occasionally, we all deal with circumstances and stressors that negatively impact our mental health. Having a support structure and resources to help “heal” mentally is critical to our wellbeing. Sometimes the weight of a situation is too heavy for our support systems.   If you find yourself in that situation, please know there are resources for you.   Suicide is never the right choice. Here are a few resources available to you for mental care/suicide prevention. 1.       Military Chaplain – The Chaplain offers confidentiality. This means you can talk to them about anything, and that conversation stays between you and the chaplain. They can also connect you with resources that are customized for you.  They are available 24/7 for emergent needs. The chaplain’s primary job is to provide care for your mental/spiritual wellbeing so feel free to use this resource.   2.       CG Support – www.cgsuprt.com and 1-855-247-8778 (CG-SUPRT) – Get CG oriented resources and benefits, including counseling and referrals. You can get professional grief, martial, financial counseling for free! I know many members have used this resource. Ask around, it’s used more often than you may think.   3.       988 Suicide Lifeline/Veterans Crisis Line – Dial 988 on any phone to immediately talk to a free resource. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline recently changed phone numbers to 988. 4.       Shipmate Support Peers –– These are local members who have completed Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and have volunteered to be a peer resource. While not professional counselors, they have volunteered to be a peer resource, and to listen and provide connections to other resources. They are here for you as a friendly face who is understanding, trained, and non-judgmental.   5.  DHS Columbia app  These viewpoints are not of the US Marne Corps, US Navy, or US Coast.
