Hard Fork

Thank you for this episode. I’ve spent the last day and a half attempting to block Roblox on my router. I’ve kindly asked my children not use the site. I’ve sent many emails to Roblox asking for their accounts to be ‘forgotten’ forever. I’ve taken away their devise access. Unfortunately they have school issued iPads that don’t block Roblox at home and of course they have tons of homework to get done so I can’t completely take those away. Nothing chat has told me to do on my router to block Roblox has worked. I’m semi-tech savvy. This is wild. I cannot believe how hard it is to simply limit something online in my own home! This cannot be on accident.

Leadership requires self reflection and accountability - not becoming your own cheerleader that tunes out warning sirens. Really appreciated this episode and the willingness of the hosts to lean into hard questions - despite the epic deflecting of their guest. YOU ONLY HAVE TO BE 5 YEARS OLD TO USE THE ROBLOX PLATFORM. Safe design should be top of mind for this child-centered company. Do better.

My favorite way to keep up with AI and tech. Consistently impressed with guests on the show and especially with the quality of interview questions from the hosts. They always hold their guests accountable and ask plain-English questions everyone has on their mind.

I’m an avid Hard Fork listener - I love the rapport between Casey and Kevin, and I’ve learned so much about a world (tech) with which I am deeply unfamiliar. That said, lately I’ve been so disappointed and unsettled by their discussions around AI and data centers, to the point where I find the show nearly unlistenable. Casey and Kevin are remarkably flippant about the environmental impacts of this stuff, particularly re: water use, data centers, (most recently) space debris, etc. - I’d hoped for a more nuanced, less tech-evangelist discussion here, but perhaps that expectation was misplaced. Really appreciate the production quality/topics/etc. of the show, but can’t listen past this one.
