#342 - Joel Valenzuela on the Future of Crypto: Bitcoin Lightning Network Is Dead

The Bitcoin Lightning Network is dead and it's time to look for other ways to exchange Bitcoin in a cheap, fast, and reliable way. Or so says Joel Valenzuela! Joel is a cryptocurrency and liberty advocate who tried going unbanked in 2015! It's his second time on the podcast and it was really fascinating to chat to him again. We discussed Bitcoin, crypto, global adoption of digital currencies, replacing banks with crypto wallets, CBDCs, and whether governments should have control of the money supply.

#341 - Jeff Jarvis: What The Internet And The Printing Press Have In Common

#341 - Jeff Jarvis: What The Internet And The Printing Press Have In Common

Jeff Jarvis is an American journalist, associate professor, public speaker, and former television critic. He is the director of the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at the City University of New York and has been a vocal advocate for the Open Web and the importance of innovation in journalism.
Jarvis is the author of several books, including What Would Google Do? (2009), Public Parts: How Sharing in the Digital Age Improves Our Lives and Makes a Better World (2011), Geeks Bearing Gifts: The Promise of Openness in the Digital Age (2013), and The Future of the News: What We Need to Know to Survive the Next Ten Years (2016).
Jeff's new book The Gutenberg Parenthesis traces the epoch of print from its fateful beginnings to our digital present ‚Äď and draws out lessons for the age to come. The age of print is a grand exception in history. For five centuries the age of prinit fostered what some call print culture ‚Äď a worldview shaped by the completeness, permanence, and authority of the printed word. As a technology, print at its birth was as disruptive as the digital migration of today. Now, as the internet ushers us past print culture, journalist Jeff Jarvis offers important lessons from the era we leave behind.¬†

#340 - Zachary Elwood on Polarisation: Is Hypocrisy Killing Democracy?

Zachary Elwood believes that polarisation and anger in politics is one of the most damaging things for the future of democracy. In this captivating discussion, we explore the role of social media in amplifying divisions, how Donald Trump's candidacy impacted the political landscape, and the media's significant influence on polarization dynamics.
Polarisation has been on the rise over the past few years and I was curious to explore how and why it was happening. Politics has become so divided and angry that our political conversation has become broken. I asked Zach about how social media has influenced this, the Brexit debate, seeing the worst in the ‚Äúother‚ÄĚ side, and the consequences of Democrats and Republicans questioning and refusing to accept the results of elections.¬†

#339 - Brandon Kochkodin: The Loony Conspiracy Theory Threatening Wall Street [Naked Shorts]

#339 - Brandon Kochkodin: The Loony Conspiracy Theory Threatening Wall Street [Naked Shorts]

Brandon Kochkodin is my guest on this show to cover GameStop and Brandon's claim that naked shorts don't exist in the market. Brandon, a seasoned writer for Forbes, takes us on a journey through the GameStop Saga and its connection to the Wall Street Bets community.

The basic theory that prevailed in the GameStop community following the squeeze of January 2021 is that naked short selling was used and is possibly still being used to suppress the price of the shares of this company. Brandon Kochkodin questions whether this is true, and whether the entire notion of naked short selling being used to manipulate markets on a wide scale is really occurring. I had some serious questions regarding GME, naked shorts, Wes Christian, and much more. Brandon had some interesting answers.

#338 - Richard Hanania: The Origins of Woke

#338 - Richard Hanania: The Origins of Woke

In this podcast with author Richard Hanania we talked about his brand new book, The Origins of Woke: Civil Rights Law, Corporate America, and the Triumph of Identity Politics. In a nation nearly evenly split between conservatives and liberals, the left dominates nearly all major institutions, including universities, the government, and corporate America. Hanania argues that this is as much a legal requirement as it is an issue of one side triumphing in the marketplace of ideas. Culture has its own independent force, but the state has, since the 1960s, been putting its thumb on the scale. In the conversation, we dive into the roots of the concept of "wokeness" and its deep-seated origins in American society, dating back to government mandates and regulations from the late 1960s and early 1970s.
This discussion challenges the common perception that wokeness is a recent phenomenon, shedding light on its historical underpinnings and how it has influenced institutions and corporations. Richard also explores the evolving role of social media in shaping acceptable narratives and content censorship, examining how these platforms, once champions of free expression, have grappled with increased pressures and changing content policies.
