The Wisdom We Already Know: What Namibia Taught Me About Ayurveda

In this deeply personal episode of Root & Restore, I’m sharing reflections from one of the most meaningful experiences of my life — spending time with a Ju/’hoansi San community in Namibia. 🌿 Living alongside the community made me think about Ayurveda in an entirely new way. They may never have heard of Vata, Pitta or Kapha, or studied the Yamas and Niyamas, yet so much of their everyday life naturally embodies these ancient principles — living with the rhythms of the sun, using plants as medicine, moving with nature, taking only what is needed, sharing resources, caring for one another and finding joy in simplicity. I share stories from our days learning to track animals, forage for food and medicine, make traditional jewelry and tools, sitting beneath an ancient baobab tree, singing and playing with the children, and our unforgettable final night gathered around the fire sharing music, dancing, stories, laughter and tears. This journey left me asking a question I’m still carrying: Have we become so busy learning how to be well that we’ve forgotten how to simply live well? This episode is about Ayurveda, but even more than that, it’s about presence, connection, community and remembering how deeply we belong to the natural world. 🤎 If experiencing a journey like this calls to you, check out Track Craft UK, who facilitated this incredible experience and helped make our time with the community possible. https://www.trackcraft.uk Support the show
