Lost Internet, Lost Time: Learning Not to Sweat the Small Stuff Ep. 254

This week, I’m inviting you into a real-life saga of modern inconvenience—my Xfinity internet meltdown. Maybe you’re enjoying a long July 4th weekend (and hopefully better weather than the current heat wave), but have you ever found your work-from-home routine completely upended by a construction crew and a vanishing internet connection? That’s exactly what happened here, all thanks to some ambitious neighborhood development and a missing junction box. But this isn’t just a rant about tech support nightmares—though you’ll definitely get a taste of those frustrating “six days until a technician can help” conversations. The heart of this episode is a deeper look at what really steals our focus and peace. How many hours do we let the uncontrollable hijack our day, our attention, even our interactions with others? I’ll walk you through my own moments of letting frustration take over, and invite you to reflect: what are you allowing to distract you from what matters most? Join me as I unpack the unexpected lessons a broken internet line can teach us about patience, priorities, and being present. Maybe together, we can learn how to let go a little sooner—and enjoy the sweet moments life has to offer. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. When the Lights Go Out: Finding Strength in Adversity

This week, I’m sharing a real-life tale of unexpected challenges and creative solutions—a sudden power outage in the middle of a busy afternoon. Ever had one of those days where nothing goes as planned? Between a Zoom call with a prospect, prepping cakes to send out, and getting ready for a hot wings (well, chicken legs) challenge at our Elders Quorum activity, I quickly learned just how dependent I am on electricity for, well, pretty much everything! But here’s where the story gets interesting. With no power, I had to get resourceful—melting butter in my hot car for frosting, switching to a gas grill recently vacated by a sparrow family, and scrounging up a battery-powered printer to get shipping labels out on time. The end result? Everything got done—even if not quite the way I’d planned. This episode is really about leaning into life’s difficulties and embracing creative problem-solving. I share how these inconvenient moments teach us strength we can’t develop any other way—just like those baby sparrows need to break out of their shells themselves. So if you’ve ever longed for an easy, smooth path, join me as we reflect on why the struggle might actually be the blessing. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. Acting on Promptings and Becoming the Person

This week, I’m taking a bite out of the topic of ministering—what it means, how it’s shifted over the years, and why many of us still struggle with it. Ever find yourself asking if you’re “doing enough,” or wondering what the checklist is supposed to look like now that home teaching has evolved into something so much less defined? I was recently at our ward conference and found myself in a discussion that inspired me to bring this conversation to the podcast. If you missed my comment there, you’ll catch it here. But here's the real meat (or cake!) for this episode: ministering isn’t just about doing assigned tasks; it’s about becoming a certain kind of person. I share some thoughts and personal stories—including a “Kevin day” that ended up meaning more than I expected—about acting on generous thoughts and being that person who reaches out, even if there's no response. How might our relationships change if we stopped worrying about the checklist and focused on being present, kind, and proactive? As you head into your day (or weekend!), take a minute to consider: who could use a little chocolate cake, or just a message from you? Let’s see what sweetness comes from simply being there for each other. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. Navigating Judgments and Growth: Reflections on Repentance, Forgiveness, and Sunday Best

This week, I'm getting real about something that's been on my mind for a while: how our early messaging and expectations shape the way we see others—especially in church. Teaching institute and revisiting Elder Neil Anderson's "The Divine Gift of Forgiveness" has me reflecting on the complexities of repentance, and why change isn't always instant or easy. I open up about a moment from my own experience on the High Council, when an unexpected reaction to someone's choice of Sunday attire challenged me to confront old judgments. It's honest, a little uncomfortable, but ultimately a reminder that what matters most is not the clothes we wear, but the direction we’re heading on our spiritual journey. If you've ever felt stuck in old habits or discouraged by slow progress, you're not alone. Together, we're all trying to take one step closer to becoming like the Savior, even if it takes more time than we'd hoped. This episode is an invitation to be gentle with yourself on the path—and maybe to laugh about mismatched socks along the way. Let’s look for those sweet nuggets of goodness in our imperfect efforts and keep moving forward. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. You Matter More Than You Think: Everyday Influence and the Art of Kind Words

This week, as school winds down and the rhythms of summer begin, I’m sharing a story that’s been resonating with me and my group coaching clients—a simple yet powerful reminder that we often have a bigger impact than we realize. Maybe you’re settling into the summer break, or maybe life is just changing pace, but wherever you are, I want to dig into how small acts and simple words can ripple out in ways we never expect. I revisit one of my all-time favorite TED Talks—a story about lollipops, college nerves, and how an offhand moment can change the entire course of someone’s life. We’re talking about being seen, making a difference (even when you have no idea you’re doing it), and the importance of sharing gratitude with the people who have touched your life. Let’s lean into this new season with an abundance of kindness. Be generous with your compliments, tell people when they’ve made a difference, and remember: you might be the person who’s quietly changed everything for someone else—whether you know it or not.
