Hey Sis! with Alicia Nicole

Alicia Nicole

Hey Sis! I'm Alicia Nicole, a Black woman who is also an author, CEO, wife, girl mom, and sister-friend.  I started this podcast as a space for Black women to receive validation, encouragement, and elevation in a world that does not provide any of that for us. After working in corporate America for over 20 years and experiencing workplace abuse, I decided to live my life unapologetically while using my voice as a source of strength for those who cannot speak up for themselves! When Tragedy Becomes Purpose

In this profoundly moving episode of Hey Sis! With Alicia Nicole, we are joined by Toi, the CEO of Motherhood Together, a community-centered platform created in the aftermath of personal tragedy. What began in grief has grown into a sacred space for mothers who are navigating loss, identity shifts, and the emotional complexity of becoming. Toi shares how she transformed her pain into purpose, building a legacy that uplifts women who often feel unseen and unsupported amid devastating change. From confronting systems that failed her, to creating spaces rooted in softness, truth, and solidarity, this conversation is a blueprint for turning survival into service. We briefly explore the legal rights of pregnant people in the workplace, and confirm that resources are available to women when their rights are at risk. If you or someone you know is experiencing discrimination, retaliation, or unlawful treatment due to pregnancy, childbirth, or related conditions, these resources are available to support and protect you: Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA):As of June 27, 2023, employers are required to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified workers affected by pregnancy, childbirth, or related conditions. Learn more: eeoc.gov/PWFA Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA):This federal law prohibits discrimination based on pregnancy in hiring, pay, promotions, job assignments, and benefits. Learn more: eeoc.gov/PDA Department of Labor Maternal Health Protections:Includes workplace accommodations, lactation rights, and leave protections. Learn more: dol.gov/maternal-health If you are experiencing unfair treatment:• Document everything• Speak to your HR department (if safe to do so)• File a complaint with the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission)• Seek legal advice from a civil rights or employment attorney This episode is a reminder: You are not alone.
